Northampton County Council member Tara Zrinski faces two primary opponents in her bid for the Democratic nomination to the Pa. State Senate, 14th District. Yamelisa Tavaresis running as a first-time candidate. She is currently an addictions counselor. The third Democratic candidate is Allentown School Director Nick Miller. Last I heard, he was climbing Mount Kiliminjaro to raise money for the weight rooms at Allen and Dieruff High Schools.
I think I passed him.
Republican candidates include former Lehigh County Comm'r Dean Browning, management consultant Omy Maldonado and Lehigh Tp Supervisor Cindy Miller. Cindy is a bit unpopular with some Republicans at the moment. In fact, she's been sued by an unsuccessful county council candidate. Arguments in that case will be heard next month.

Tavareis should do well in Allentown and Miller in Northampton County. Zirinski's constant office seeking gives her some name recognition so she may squeak though in a divided field of candidates. Her Team Tara crazy fem squad will work for her.
Problem for Dems is that if Zirinski is their candidate in the Fall, they lose for sure. She carries more baggage than a 757. The republicans shouldn't have to dig very deep to find what they need. She has no real accomplishments on council except as a long-winded narcissist. Maldanado would be formidable in the Fall.
Seriously: what is an "additions counselor"?
Cindy Miller is the best! She would put her heart and soul into the job. Zirinski is a phony feminist only out for her own agenda.
She does carry more baggage than a 777.
I wouldn't underestimate Tara's ability to get votes. She was the top vote getter in the Dem primary and general for commissioner at-large. Like it or not, TZ is the base of today's Democratic party. The Lehigh County establishment "pro-business" patriarchy is coalescing behind Nick Miller. The woman from Allentown is unknown but has a decent resume.
Maldonado is by far the best Republican candidate. Cindy Miller has made some enemies in the party and Lehigh Township passed that insane resolution about mail in voting. Dean "I'm a gay black guy" Browning's twitter malfunction is disqualifying.
This will be the most watched PA Senate race this year!
"I think I passed him."
Lol.
It is a counselor who teaches you how to do addition. DUH!
"Seriously: what is an "additions counselor"?"
Math tutor? I just corrected my spelling.
"She was the top vote getter in the Dem primary and general"
So, what. She was the first name on the ballot that's how it works. A lot of people have been top vote getter over the years. She also immediately ran for the state house so of course she has some name recognition. She still got hammered in the state house race and if she is the dem nominee she will get hammered in this race as well. Maybe she will have to go and get a job.
It will be interesting to see how well Zrinski does in the Allentown area during the primary. I would think she will finish last, but do the other two candidates split the vote. How well those two candidates outside of Allentown do will also be interesting. Zrinski needs to do well in Northampton County in the primary, or she is in trouble. Will the Fetterman/Lamb race bring the people out as well since there is not a primary for Governor.
I would think Browning is the front-runner on the Republican side. With Cindy Miller running against Mako the 2nd time, she may have hurt herself then, and the Nicole Romanishan fiasco is probably the icing on the cake, which will cost her votes in Northampton County in the areas where she needs the votes to beat Browning. Maldonado appears to be a Tea Party guy and I am not so sure he would do well in that district. Maybe he gets some Latino Republican support in Allentown to help him.
I would think this will be Zrinski vs Browning. Browning will win if the coattails are going Republican.
Zirinski is the least qualified person to be a state senator.
