NorCo Finally Wants a Grant Writer

This is long overdue. For years, NorCo has missed out on numerous grant opportunities because it has no grant writer. This may change soon. Executive Lamont McClure is proposing that the county hire one with an annual salary of $50,130. f Council agrees, this new position will be part of the Department of Community and Economic Development.

Maybe they will move that Cozze woman into it to protect her if a new executive gets elected. Hopefully someone is watching.

Grant writer would easily pay for itself on the first grant, this is a smart move by a forward thinking administration, Kudos to Lamont McClure for doing something proactive for the county and it’s reside

Maybe McClure should make another position that didn't go in front of County Council like he did for Amy Cozze. McClure or should I say Dertinger is no different than Brown going behind County Council's back. Gave her a job since she needed medical benefits since her husband doesn't get any. POLITICAL PAYBACK!!!! WASTING TAXPAYER DOLLARS AT THE EXPENSE OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS! Did she get paid overtime for being at late meetings???? What is her actual pay title and pay??? This is public record. Please post this information for all to know, Bernie. Come on Council, do the job you were elected for!

This should be a position shared between the administration and the other agencies of the County. This person could also be the architect of an annual newsletter to the public explaining to them what services are available to them as residents of Northampton County. A newsletter similar to those newsletters from Boroughs and townships about services can help residents utilize many of the services they pay for but don't realize they exist. It should not list the names of elected officials or give credit to any one individual for any project of the County. For example, when and where can I take my old paints. When and where can I recycle many objects like old TV's, radio's, pesticides, batteries, etc. etc.

It can also include information about mental health programs, drug programs, elderly programs, etc. etc.

These jobs are filled before they advertised. Don't expect applications to make it out of HR.

This should be a competitive hiring process. The person selected should have a long and successful career in grantwriting. No on-the-job learning bullshit.

Crafting a newsletter and grant writing are two different skill sets.

Had one in the past and it was a disappointment. If approved should be done on a contractual basis. No hire will know all areas.

Good point anon 1:54, this creates more expenses overt the life of the position that it pays for. Contracting this is better. However, then no insider would get the lifetime job.

County DCEDs, in general, should do so much more than manage CBDG dollars. A grants coordinator success should not necessarily measured by a 100% success rate. The $50k seems a little low for a person who almost serves as a deputy department head. Some Countu departments have two deputies. Several years ago, Lehigh County hired DCED staff starting at $65k so the $50k is low. Everyone keeps talking about contracted services but they often times have conflicted interests and would be happy to take your dollars win or lose.
