NorCo Seeking Parking Alternatives For Employees While New Parking Deck Is Under Construction

At tonight's meeting, Northampton County Council will consider a $1,250 license agreement with Shiloh Baptist Church for 150 parking spaces during the 18 months it will take to raze and build a new parking deck at the courthouse campus. This parking deck is on Easton's south side, so a shuttle will also be needed to ferry employees and jurors from there to the courthouse.

The county has also requested Easton to expand the maximum time for metered spots around he courthouse from three to 10 hours.

When the parking deck was repaired in the past, the county rented a parking lot from nearby St Anthony's Church, which is only about two blocks away and would require no shuttle. It would make sense to consider entering into a lease agreement with St. Anthony. In addition, this shuttle should also stop at the Easton parking garages, which are never full on weekdays. The county should probably also consider a lease arrangement with Easton for some parking spots.

We can always count on norco council to use a well thought out, multi-alternative and comprehensive plan to insure the most favorable results for all concerned.

The county should move everything but the prison to the suburbs, where there's lots of convenient parking. Has Panto repaid county employees for the money he stole via his commuter tax? Thieves deserve justice and Panto is a documented thief.

I thought the County was broke. Isn’t that garage fine ? Where’d they get the money ?

The county should also consider hybrid or remote work to lessen the number of employees at the campus on any given day.

Don't worry all the bosses and administration has reserved spots already.

Give me a break

The county is financially stressed. That garage is far from fine and should have been replaced years ago. Chunks of concrete routinely fall. The county borrowed the money for this job and I wrote about it on numerous occasions.

Actually well over 2/3 of the county workforce are in the suburbs already. Human Services and Gracedale, which have a combined 1,300 workers, are at Emrick Boulevard and Gracedale. Parks, 911 and Open Space/Farmland are at Louise Moore and Gracedale. Assessment does do most of its work in the field. The row offices cannot be done remotely so far as I can tell.

These two drunks were standing across the street from the main entrance to the court house and I saw one of them put a quarter in the parking meter. The other drunk said look at that, that's amazing you weigh one hour.

That's already being done. Just haven't announced it yet

Not only county employees but Lafayette employees also

Every time you turn around County Council is spending more money. They never say no to any new spending requests.

Leave it to the County to implement such a plan.

So, the county is going to line the pockets of the least geographically feasible option for their parking dilemma, being the Shiloh Baptist Church.

Guaranteed the political demographic of that congregation and leadership is 99+ percent Democrat.

And what is the political demographics of Northampton County’s elected officials?

Dig deeper Bernie.

So what happens when/if this bus gets in an accident from the church to the courthouse and vice versa? Who gets sued for injuries? How many employees are going to be late because the shuttle will need to make multiple trips?

I cant help but vote for St Anthony. ST ANTHONY St Anthony please come around. Parklng spaces have been lost and the must be found. Or else all the workers will work from home and then we will say the same prayer. All the workers have been lost and they must be found!

There's plenty of open space in the Slate Belt, and the employees can take the Lanta bus to work- just saying.

Was it really that long ago that we voted down the Dixie TIF?
