LC Comm'r Jon Irons Refusing to Stand or Participate in Pledge - A Photo

Yesterday, I told you that LC Comm'r Jon Irons refuses to stand during the pledge of allegiance. As I noted, this pledge is voluntary In fact, he has a constitutional right to decline to participate in what could be criticized as "performance patriotism.

I think those who voted to put Irons in elected office as their representative have a right to know that they elected someone who refuses to participate in an expression of unity around our American ideals.

A reader has sent me a photo of Irons refusing to participate from the June 25 meeting, and I thought I'd share it with you.

A shameful display by a very self-centered individual. A man who should be ignored by all who come into contact with him. Label this person a loser.

Joe McCarthy was right.

The welfare gang will still vote for him as they wave other flags

It's protected form of expression; one cannot be compelled to say something. If he has a beef, so be it. He can express such in any manner he chooses. However, as an elected official who took an oath, he should at least stand. He doesn't even have to recite the Pledge. Not standing for the Pledge (if you are physically able) is really a lack of courtesy and professionalism. One looks more like a baby throwing a tantrum than a civilized adult airing a grievance.

Who gives a shit if he doesn't participate in some patriotic circle jerk. How does he vote, what is he doing for his constituents. That's all that should matter.

This guy doesn’t bother me at all.

As far as I’m concerned, he’s the most genuine and honest Democrat in the Lehighvalley.
