I like it. I would suggest a picnic pavilion dedicated to New Latinos of the Lehigh Valley. They could hold their meetings in the park and hand the campaign checks directly to King Edwin.
In all seriousness, I went down to the site last night to get out of the house and there's a bit of local excitement in the air. People were taking photographs and a couple of local residents were passing the time yelling out to motorists "Hey how do you like the pit? Your tax dollars are paying for it". Almost an informal protest of sorts.
The idea of an Allentown Central Park on that site is a pretty good idea when you think about it. It'd probably do more for the neighborhoods surrounding it than the arena would.

I say frack the damn thing and be done with it. There's got to be some shale below all the porous limestone. There's certainly lots of uncaptured gas in center city Allentown. Jobs and revenues are guaranteed. No public investment required.
I think it'd be developed if the arena went away, just not with an arena.
Yeah it's in downtown Allentown but it's a flat, city block sized piece of land with all the completed environmental studies.
I'd vote for urban farm, just for the irony. Fields of vegetables and livestock and of course, a barn.
If Allentown were prudent about the whole thing they'd be thinking about a Plan B. I know they aren't...it's personal now, but somebody should be thinking about how to develop that parcel and get the money back out of it to pay off the money already spent.
I think if this all gets resolved within a year, they should build the arena as planned. If, god forbid, the suburbs find a way to drag this out longer, they should just screw it, make the "pit" totally tax free for 30-years (i.e. no property tax, no return all other taxes collected by the NIZ) and get a developer to build the swankiest office building money can buy. Hopefully it would bleed the 'burbs white for pulling this BS.
Tomorrow, the Phantoms start contacting the folks who are signed up for season tickets. Can't wait till next hockey season. I will be sitting in my season ticket seats enjoying the best minor league action money can buy.
Minor league hockey is truly great. It puts baseball to shame. It is fast, fun and hard hitting action for three periods.

I wonder how many season tickets the Shamrocks lacrosse team has sold for the 2012-13 season in Allentown so far? It worked out well in Wilkes-Barre with those season tickets. lol

a central park makes sense. The homeless can have new digs and move out from under the 8th Street Bridge.
