I've criticized the brutal way that the Trump administration has enforced our immigration laws. Instead of targeted enforcement, even US citizens have been stopped simply because they look different. Moreover, until Kristi Noem was removed from DHS, even US citizens were killed and shot. Having said that, I acknowledge that we have had a problem with immigrants who have entered the country unlawfully and then committed crimes.
Most recently, an 18 yo Loyola U student was allegedly shot and killed by a Venezuelan, who entered this country illegally and who was apprehended and released by Border Patrol. He later was arrested for shoplifting and released again.
I have received criticism for failing to acknowledge these incidents and agree I should have drawn attention to illegals who engage in criminal activity, especially those who entered illegally.

Fair enough. Appreciate your acknowledgment. I agree ICE got too heavy handed. I believe it was designed to get illegals to self deport and it went sideways. No democrat will answer why the border was opened to begin with.
Our party's handling of the border crisis cost us the election...it was terrible policy and should be considered part of Joe Biden's legacy.

Brutal? Stop it. Trump's deportations are a fraction of Obama's and far less confrontational. Trump has failed to keep his primary campaign promise re: deportations. Have protesters who assaulted officers been killed/injured? Yes. People who assault officers are killed/injured every day. It doesn't surprise me that this likely surprises you to the point where you describe deportations as brutal. You should turn off NPR and seek opposing sources. I don't think moderate democrats or independent voters would have much trouble with a reactive response of deporting illegal immigrants who have been arrested for actual criminal misconduct such as drug sales and assault or worse in our country. We are spending and wasting much more money with these dumb ICE raids, let alone the negative public relations element, than we are losing on whatever benefits these non-criminal illegal immigrants are supposedly soaking the system for.
This is tragic and another result of the open border policies of the Biden administration. Sanctuary policies are a death sentence for many innocent Americans such as this young college student. I’m tired of organizations and cities/states protecting immigrants (some illegal) instead of protecting us. Maybe read the surveys sent out by the Democrat party. They certainly are not about protecting you, US citizens. I’m laughing that Kathy Hochul is now begging rich former New Yorkers to come back from Palm Beach so NY can initiate the state’s “social programs” after publicly kicking them out a couple of years ago. Scary thing, Bernie, is that these folks live among us here in the valley and we only learn about them after a crime has been committed and/or a life is lost. Do you get it now? They are criminals by simply being here without permission or vetting. Your citing "negative public relations" betrays that you know this and are simply being dishonest. They use terms like "non-violent offenders" to hide/distract from illegal marauders who commit fraud and theft and drunk driving deaths and injuries. To most Americans, those are very serious crimes that demand justice, not minimization. Nobody questioned Obama as he threw far more illegals out of the country.

Statistically, immigrants and immigrants here illegally both commit much fewer crimes than citizens . They fear calling attention to themselves. That said, some will commit crimes but again at a lower rate. Further , crime rates go down as immigrant population rise.. check it out.

My point is, most moderate Dems and independents dont give a rat's ass about an undocumented immigrant if they are keeping their head down and working jobs nobody else wants to do. Totally get that they've broken and skirted the law by being here without going thru proper channels via whatever loophole the system allowed, but also know that there are 10x as many "legal" US citizens that take advantage of loopholes and lax law enforcement on any number of illegal and fraudulent activities. I state the cost and effort of sending ICE into cities to round up "all" illegals as unpopular and moreso inefficient and expensive in relation to whats being saved since they're such a "drain" on they system.

A lot of American citizens are perpetrating violent deadly crimes and terrorist acts on our own. Endless list of school shootings and killings, most noteworthy and/or recent Sandy Hook Elementary, Idaho 4, Columbine, Apalachee. The drug CEO was killed by an exclusive private school valedictorian. Most of these perpetrators are white. Yeah, the enemy lives in your community, not in the bad part of town. The fascination with rooting out "illegal" immigrants is a total farce. And no, they aren't voting. The statistics are something like 100 votes in history cast by non-citizens. Mike Lindell would tell you it is 100 million.
Unlike the crimes that are being highlighted, THOSE criminals unfortunately have the RIGHT to be here since they are in fact LEGAL US citizens. If these others were not allowed here many people would still be alive, what with the murders and duis committed by those people. FOX News bangs the drum about scary immigrants to frighten grandma and grandpa and distract them from the fact that the GOP is no better than Democrats. They're all corrupt and all stealing from American tax payers, yet they've trained us to blame the other party.
To be fair, now you must research and publish every incident in which someone out on bail commits a new crime, or someone whose significant other has obtained a protective order against them, but who then assaults the protected party. And you must identify their citizenship status.
So why was the border opened wide by the Biden administration? Because he felt bad for these people? Please be serious here. Biden’s border policies cost this country billions and billions. States with the most fiscal problems had to come up with money to house and feed these people. Why? Because of politics that’s why. Congressional seats are based on population count. Illegals are counted by the census. First time in history illegals mere flown and bused to blue states like Mass and NY. There really is no other reason to do this except because of raw politics. This is painting with a broad brush, and mostly incorrect and misleading. Crime rates by immigrants, legal and illegal, are very much tied to the nation of origin. Depending on that factor, you see rates of immigrant crime both lower AND higher than native born populations

the vast majority of Democrats want an orderly immigration system, not an "open border", which is term used as a MAGA scare tactic. I also feel that it is shameful that President Trump has completely shut the door to any refugees, including Afghan interpreters who risked their lives to help US troops during our war there. I misspoke, there are some refugees getting in...White South Africans only need apply! Just like Musk and Thiel. Coincidence?

As a life long Dem who agrees with a majority of the party's policies, I have always disagreed with at least 2 of the major talking points. No.1: Although the right to bear arms might need tweeking, law abiding U.S. citizens should be allowed and able to own firearms and defend themselves and their families from ne'er do-wells as well as a potential unjust governance. 2. I am also a firm believer in Garrett Hardin’s 1974 essay "Lifeboat Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor". He uses a lifeboat metaphor to argue against generous foreign aid and open immigration, contending that wealthy nations ("lifeboats") must maintain a safety margin rather than rescuing all poor swimmers, lest everyone drown due to overpopulation and limited resources. It seems insane that we would let our nation be conquered not thru trained armies, tanks, missiles etc., but by simply letting invaders walk in and settle down. We should have a policy like Canada's where the country let's you in and become a citizen if you have skills needed, and not just for cheap labor. Not while we have so many living under bridges and union deystroying companies.
I would like to ballance that with a more empathetic look at our foriegn neighbors who are in distress, some of which have been put in distress and have their citizens fleeing because of CIA/U.S. bussiness's vested interests causing the root of their problems. You don't stab holes in a neighbor's life boat and then become surprised and indignant that the passengers try to swim to your life boat for survival. Not to mention the fact that some farm industries just want to keep them coming in, but illegally, so there is no problem with some complaining to the government about "worker's rights".
My only hope for reasonable immigration policies and a host of other problems is to have money strictly limited in politics, which is sad to say, slim to none.
