Commonwealth Court Schedules Hearing on Objections to Taiba Sultana's Nomination Petition For State Senate

Pennsylvania's Commonwealth Court scheduled a March 25 hearing on objections to the nomination petition filed by Taiba Sultana for the state senate. She hopes to face incumbent State Senator Lisa Boscola in this year's primary.

Representing objectors Patti Hitzel, Pam Panto, Patti Bruno and Cleste Dee is Allentown Attorney Ray Lahoud, who grew up on Easton's south side. In addition to is challenges to specific signatures, Lahoud has raised the novel argument that Sultana has deceptively claimed to be "self-employed" without explaining precisely what she does as a self-employed person.

The Pa Supreme Court has in the past stricken a nomination petition filed by a law school graduate who held himself out as a lawyer while awaiting bar exam results. So I could see a court ruling against Sultana on this basis alone.

I looked at her petitions. Her husband did not fill out the back completely on at least 2 petitions, lots of cross outs, and I now know where the term "Chicken scratch" comes from.

Because Lisa Boscola doesn’t want to face a challenger to continuing tenure that dates back to the previous century, her supporters need to eliminate more than 500 signatures. Of course Ray Lahoud needs to invent “the NOVEL ARGUMENT that Sultana has deceptively claimed to be ‘self-employed’” (Emphasis added).

In the political environment where a judge (Arthur Engoron) fined Donald Trump $515 million for “undervaluing” Mar-a-Lago at $18 million, don’t be surprised by any decision.

The question is why Boscola’s team is working so hard to eliminate this challenger and stop her constituents from exercising their votes.

I'm siding with Taiba on the self-employed statement. Her job is Attention Whore. It's as plain as the mustache on her face. Why does Ray hate on working girls?

Scott Janney, You are about as wrong as you can be if you think Boscola is behind this push, although she certainly has that right. The truth is that, over the years, Taiba Sultana's divisiveness has alienated many Eastonians and people who come from the south side. She attacked Patti Hitzel, who has been an ardent advocate for Easton's south side, She constantly vilified Sal Panto, whose lives on the south side and whose wife is an objector. She angered Ray Lahoud with her bashing of Easton policy and attempts to conduct US foreign policy from Easton City Hall. While opposing candidates are usually behind objections to nomination petitions, Sultana has made numerous enemies in the community she pretended to serve. This is not a Boscola movement and your attempt to make it such demonstrates your own ignorance of the electorate you wish to serve. So does your amazingly irrelevant defense of Trump in a matter having nothing to do with him. You claim to be someone who listens, but you obviously have not been listening to Easton.

"Pennsylvania's Commonwealth Court scheduled a March 25 hearing..." They have a time machine?! How did the hearing turn out?

I would just rather she be allowed to run against Boscola. Sultana will get crushed which is equally satisfying.

I applaud you Bernie as he has been on a non stop posting spree on his page pushing this same narrative. Thank you for educating him just a little more. He should focus more on what he plans to bring to the 18th District and less on this and whatever he claims the “Elite Democrats” are doing on the national level. He needs a social media team because he post the same 5 things over and over again.

I hope Sulktana doesn't get tossed because things are so much more entertaining when she's in the news cycle. You can draw up a bingo card with all the zany possibilities of impish acts (like being the Krylon Karen) she'll do or moronic things she'll say. She'll get clobbered by Bos-rum-n-cola anyway and that itself, will be worth grabbing the popcorn for just to watch.

The woman is pure hate which includes her own self-hate. Must really enjoy the public verbal beatings and ridicule. One sick puppy.

you have to wonder what is wrong with her always running against good people.

This. I wanted to say this so many times but figured it wouldn't be approved. She does seem to have an insatiable need for attention.

The question is also... why are you working so hard to smear Patti Bruno on social media for being part of the group that brought this challenge forward? Is it because you personally don't want to face Lisa and want to discredit everyone in hopes that you get to go against Crazy Pants? Scott Janney, you're a coward, and I hope you get your ass handed to you in the general.

The case you cited has nothing to do with Sultana’s situation. There is a clear difference between falsely presenting yourself as a lawyer and accurately listing yourself as self-employed. Conflating the two is misleading. It’s not surprising, given your record of being suspended by the Supreme Court for fraud and misrepresentation.

I agree. My money is 75% to 25%. Boscola with the win.

"There is a clear difference between falsely presenting yourself as a lawyer and accurately listing yourself as self-employed."

There may be a closer difference but 'self employed' is still not an accurate response when the question is what your occupation is. Self employed as WHAT? Saying 'self employed' is as inaccurate as saying 'county' in that it says who your employer is but not your occupation. Her occupation is better described as UNemployed, a point Ray makes in his brief.
