Easton Seeks to Add 9 Properties to Existing LERTA

Easton will be before Northampton County Council tonight to pitch an addition of 9 properties to a tax incentive program known as a LERTA.

Easton already offers this property tax break for 82 deteriorated parcels. This program incentivizes the owner to make improvements by phasing in additional taxes due from an increased assessment over a period of 10 years. The owner still pays whatever taxes are due based on the existing valuation.

The nine new properties are described below:

The properties at 1-6 Centre Square are being transformed into a seven-story hotel worth $25 million. The Black Canyon site is intended to be developed into an innovation center for small manufacturing. * Center Square is slated for a mixed-use apartments and restaurants. The remaining properties will be devoted to the creation of affordable housing for low-income residents.

Both Easton and its school district have approved a LERTA for these tracts.

Housing is not affordable, and it will not be affordable. Time to stop giving breaks to rich developers. Don't like it build somewhere else but they won't.

So, the old EASD Super is a slum lord and doesn't take care of his properties? Alfredean Jones?? And someone else is supposed to help him fix it up? How much money did he make at EASD? Or am I reading this wrong?
