At the end of the April 4 meeting, NorCo Council President Lori Vargo Heffner announced that she as seeking applications for the Council Clerk, now that Linda Zembo is retiring. The pay is ridiculously high, $107,482 a year. That's over three times what most clerks are paid in the county. The one downside is that it is an exempt position, meaning the position is at-will.
As of Friday, 22 people applied for this job. Only two are current county employees. An external hire would have a long learning curve. I am a bit shocked to see that 19 of the 22 applicants are women, and that very few men or women have anything close to qualifying work experience.
Council should cast the line again, a little closer to shore. An effort should be made to hire someone who works for and understands the county. I can think pf people in different departments who would be excellent in this role.

We are about to see if common sense is a flower that grows in council's garden. I sincerely doubt due to their past shenanigans.

To what "sources" do you refer? The same ones who wanted to limit public comment? These "sources" are wrong. The names of those who apply for public employment, just like the names of those in public employment, are within the realm of the public's right to know. We pay them and have a right to know who they are.

She is one of the two internal applicants. What disqualifies her in my view are the following: (1) she considers herself an employee of LVH, not Council. She works for all nine of them. (2) At one point, she actually took it upon herself to send me some emails during a time when I was critical of Council and made some snide remarks. She is not a blogger, but a council clerk. (3) She testified as some kind of expert when Council was doing its RFP for a pay study. That is not what a clerk does.
If there is a couch in that office, it needs to go.
Unfortunately, there are only two internal applicants. This is where Council should really focus. That os the whole point of career service.
I also fail to understand why a college degree is necessary. I know many people with advanced degrees who are pretty stupid. This arbitrarily limits the pool.

12:24 pm: Unless you are pretty darned close to retirement, why would you want a job that lacks security? It sounds as though this position is very political and if you fall out of favor, you’re done. No thanks.

Another reason for a Home Rule Study commission is this administration.
When executive changes this job could change. But lots of county jobs the same way appointed and then gone due to political party

The info was leaked to me and I have not and will not say where I got it. How do you know it wasn't someone on the Council side? We have the right to know the identity of every person who seeks a public position. There is no confidentiality on that point. And I did not even go that far. I just stated 22 applied and two are internal. In the comments, I do mention that one of the applicants is the current Deputy Clerk.
To 6:17, it was probably Barron. The guy is a well known weasel. He slinks around the courthouse all day throwing his weight around and looking for gossip. Pity his staff that have to carry his weight. O'Hare will do anything for this administration and that is why they feed him information they want out, even if they shouldn't do it. They know he will run with it.
On this issue you are completely wrong.
