Bob Brooks, Democratic nominee in the upcoming Pa. 7th Congressional District race against incumbent Ryan Mackenzie, is also the Defendant in an action contending that he fraudulently conveyed real estate to his current wife to avoid a $130,000 judgment owed to his mother-in-law. In late July, NorCo Judge Jennifer Sletvold rejected Brooks' attempt to dismiss the suit and ordered him to file an Answer.
In her ruling, Judge Sletvold makes clear that a fraudulent conveyance has been averred with sufficient detail to withstand preliminary objections:
Plaintiff alleges particular facts to claim how Defendants actually intended to defraud Plaintiff, the judgment creditor. The Complaint alleges that the judgement in the 2018 lawsuit was entered on January 10, 2022, and the quitclaim deed, transferring ownership of the Property from Mr. Brooks and Second Wife to solely Second Wife, occurred in close proximity, approximately two months. The quitclaim deed was a transfer to an insider, Second Wife. The debtor, Mr. Brooks, still resides in the Property and uses it as his primary residence. The transfer of the property was for $10.00 when the value of the property was $413,200.00 at the time of transfer. Second Wife immediately encumbered the property with a $330,000 mortgage, and the loan proceeds were not used to pay the debt owed to Plaintiff by Mr. Brooks. See Compl. ¶¶ 21-31. We find these allegations to be pled with particularity and are legally sufficient to sustain causes of action under 12 Pa. C.S.A. § 5104. Accordingly, this preliminary objection is overruled.
After this, you would think that Brooks, who is after all a Democratic Congressional candidate, would quietly and quickly settle this dispute. It certainly does him no good to have this hanging over his head.
Instead, Brooks' plan is to delay this matter as long as he can. His Answer was due in mid August, but he sought and obtained an extension for his Answer. It's due on September 14. By that time, mail-in ballots should be going out.
It's clear that whether he wins or loses, Brooks will string this case out as long as possible.
That's because, as I've said many times, he's shady.

Don't care about a petty dispute with an ex mother in law. It doesn't affect the country the way Ryan's support for massive deficits, unconstitutional tariffs, and an illegal war that's caused more inflation.

Of course, the Plaintiff's attorney agreed bc that is simple courtesy. Do you want to slam the plaintiff 's lawyer for refusing to be a prick? Brooks should really be trying his best to put this behind him, not seeking extensions.

Thank you for being honest about this guy, Bernie. The DSA is trying to slip in another one. Hopefully PA 7 voters are smarter than that!
This isn't a good look for Brooks, but let's remember that at this point these are only allegations. I'll still vote for him even if they prove to be true, as at least he didn't sexually assault anyone or support a president who did--not to mention the thievery, lying, and support for pedophiles. And yes, it's come to this.
A petty dispute? The guys a thief but he has a D after his name so it doesn’t matter to you.
He’s throwing all his firefighter brothers and sisters under the bus by being for socialized medicine. Years of wage concessions to keep and maintain great health insurance will be gone. Even Bernie Sanders admits that it will require a massive middle class tax increase. The big losers will be government employees, teachers, first responders, and trade union members who will be paying a lot more for a lot less. It will be a disaster if we give the government control of 20% of the economy.
Quite a few Democrats will vote for Brooks but reluctantly.
Mackenzie is a Trump worshipper.
So what’s the choice?
I’m going with neither unfortunately.
The only consolation is that the Lehigh Valley’s 1 vote out of 435 will rarely matter.
Mackenzie is awful.
Brooks is awful.
Shapiro endorsed Brooks for some shady reason so Shapiro is awful.
What part of he-doesn't-have-the-money do you not understand? His decision is not politically calculated. He's broke and doesn't have the dough. If he gets the Congress gig, he'll work out a payment plan. Easy peasy. Stop killing a guy with everyday guy problems.
I long for the day when we had candidates like Don Ritter Charlie Dent Paul McHale Fred Rooney candidates who could discuss and campaign on policy issues and differences
What makes that difficult to understand is his financial disclosure showing he has more than enough
