Tara Zrinski attended her first retiree as NorCo Exec this week. From what I'm told, they really liked what she had to say. She believes it is important to keep the pensions funded in accordance with recommendations of the actuary. She also thinks it's ridiculous to snub retirees out of a COLA at a time when inflation is out of control.
You can see her above with former NorCo Execs Gerald E "Jerry" Seyfried and Glenn Reibman. Former Exec Lamont McClure was not invited because he's running for Congress
Zrinski's upbeat personality has probably been her best asset so far. I have heard more than one county employee say that she's been a breath of fresh air. I've never heard an Executive say until last week that she thinks the jail has a problem keeping corrections officers because the pay is too low.
Next week, I'll discuss her "continuum of care" approach at Gracedale. On the surface, it sounds foolish, especially because the two positions she wants are "exempt" and come and go with the Executive. But she told retirees that she has other plans at Gracedale as well. I need to do some research and will let you know about that on Monday.

Tara is correct about COLAs, but actuaries and staff really hate them. The Retirement Board probably has approved 5 or 6 COLAs in the last 8 years. Ask Human Resources they’ll know the number and percentages.
I know those guys
Is it true that Northampton retirees do not pay a premium for their healthcare ?
When I first read this article, I immediately thought of all the jackasses that are going to bring up Tara‘s bullhorn that she used at a rally about eight years ago. To them I say I would love to see her shove that bullhorn right up your you know where and tell you to go to hell! Tara’s going to do great things for this county and all of you that still bring up something that happened eight years ago are idiots.
Tara so far is a great county executive, night and day from Lamont McClure who did not care about anything other than himself and making him look good for his next political move. As much as many are against throwing money and creating this new dept of care. At least she has a plan and is giving it a shot. Keep up the great work Tara the county needs you to fix the mess that McClure left you. She has a shot to become one of the greatest county executives in history and on the right path.
She came across as sincere and very knowledgeable about seniors problems. One of the best luncheons explaining the financials of the former employees and the problems we face. The handouts were informational and real eye openers. She certainly got our attention. Can't wait to see what she recommends next.
McClure shouldn’t have been invited anyway, he’s not a retiree is he?
A rose among thorns. I'm referring to Jerry.
A Rose amongst two Thorns. LOL Sorry, I couldn't resist the temptation.
All fluff, but no substance.
Please stop with your exaggerations- considering John Brownpants & Lamont McCluless have the worst personalities of any Pols in the Valley, anyone would be an improvement!
Corrected headline:
"Zrinksi Continues to Campaign for Higher Office"
COLAs were granted by the Retirement Board in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The Retirement Board granted 14% in colas. That was the max allowed by law since 2019.
I cringe every time this woman speaks without a script.
Tara talks a good game but truly has no clue. Hopefully those retirees know that.
I agree 1000%
Plan? What plan? Did you see or have access to it?
She's incompetent, and is always in a race to the bottom. She had the luck of running against 2 nonexistent candidates.
She was speaking to a senior group of retirees, not spewing politics, but if she was at a political gathering the bullhorn would be near!!! Boom, there it is!
according to the literature we received, no COLA was granted in the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2023, and 2026. these non COLAS Add up to 15.5%.
What does that have to do with COLA'S? The County stopped paying for health care in 2010.
She mentioned some of her ideas to the retirees and I will be talking to them and to her.
She still acts like a 10 year old with or without a Bullhorn!
OMG, go away Tara! You're out of your league!
Please tell us what law that is you are referring too? We want to know if and when we're being sold a bill of goods. Again, what law are you referring too?
I hear tell the next retirees gathering is going to be at the Jerry Seyfried Archery Range. Jerry is going to shoot an apple off of Bernie"s head. Everyone's invited.
LOL!
State employees and teachers don’t get get COLAs n their pensions.
I think she’s a nice lady who’s in over her head. She’s also waaaaaay far to the left of the political spectrum. Sometimes people that spew all that left wing craziness, then get elected and see what reality really is, change their views. This could be happening with her stay tuned.
Anyone know if lehigh county gave COLA these years?
i attended the retiree's luncheon. I think she is sincere in her desire to fix all problems but most of those solutions require money. I think she is an idiot. But a sincere idiot is still an idiot, or she is the best con artist leading Northampton County to a disaster. Hold onto your hat Northampton County residents. Expect a possible reassessment of properties. And my fellow retirees you will be using more than your COLA when that bill hits your mailbox. Quite frankly I prefer her with her bullhorn than leading our government as with the bullhorn she can cause less damage. She is very careful not to criticize her democratic buddy Lamont for the pickle she only recently "discovered." I guess her former position as Controller did not provide her with the opportunity to get a true grasp of financial difficulties in Northampton County.
TZ is a chameleon and will change as she sees fit. When the real concerns hit, her true shallow self will show.
I was there that day at the Bethlehem Post Office when she was flopping around with the Bullhorn- I almost called the crisis hotline.
You're right, Cusick & Giovanni were MIA. Amy Cozze wiped the floor with her at their debate, but made the asinine decision to quit her job days before an Election.
wouldn't surprise me
WRONG! COLA’s do NOT have to be a set percentage. Can correct someone if you don’t know the facts. A “COLA” is not a specific amount. The board is given a “suggested” number but can be changed. And the years retirees were given COLA’s they were substantial. And each COLA eats into the funds in the account. Which is funding better than most any other county and/or municipal fund but still hurts to when COLA’s are given and hurts even more with each of those healthcare refreshes.
The commentar @1050 is correct in that statement. Relax, no one is trying to rip you off. I’m trying to find the rule to share.
LOL. Loosen up that red hat. Mr. lynch is this you?
I’m against this. Jerry is too good a shot. Let Tara shoot the apple.
She would be foolish to push for reassessment at a time when she still doesn’t have a Fiscal Director, she can’t balance the budget without intermingling funds , and she is far from resolving the Vacancies and financial problems at Gracedale. We also have the midterm voting machine gamble coming up, if they do or don’t function .Maybe cookies for everyone at the courthouse will help.
You're right, just like she was as a Council member- incompetent, petulant, and always on the lookout for her next gig.
A reassessment is long overdue in Northampton County. It's been over 30 years since the last one. However, I agree with much of your statement regarding the fiscal problems she is facing. Maybe during her second term.
OMG. Someone stop this woman before she bankrupts us all.
Off topic but heard rumor Amy Hess is no longer in the Voter Registration program…no one has mentioned this ..she’s been gone a month?
Tara has no clue and hopefully those retirees know that. Not Lynch, btw.
Property taxes are going to hurt a lot of people in next few years.
What am I missing? When did McClure become the big bad ass sticking it to the little guy? I can't believe the things I've been reading about him and what he did to his employees and retirees. Please say it ain't so Joe.
Well don't blame the R's for the tax increases and the reassessment. No extra money in budget. She will go after the wealthy just like LC. She is in the 6 figure income now.
The retirees clearly have no clue that she's about to kill them and their families with a stunningly large tax increase. What a rotten, mean thing to do. If you're on a fixed income, consider eating dog food and grass soup to survive her tax grab. She wants to repossess your home and give it to rich bastards from NJ.
Commentor 10:50............you are wrong. There is no such law. The retirees got a COLA from Social Security in 2022 that was 8.7% but no COLA from the County in the same year.
