Takeaways From Trump's Longest-Ever SOTU

I made it through President Donald Trump's SOTU last night. I need more time to consider what he had to say, but I'll share my takeaways and welcome yours.

First, it was too long. Trump shattered the record for longest SOTU, a record that he himself set last year. As a result, it was boring at times.

Second, Democrats who opted to boycott the speech are childish and guilty of the very partisan behavior that Trump himself exhibited during his address. Like it or not, he is the President. I do not respect the person but do respect the office.

Third, most of Trump's partisan rants at Democrats are just as childish. At a time when we need to be talking to each other, we tend to talk at each other.

Fourth, his call to end insider trading was one of the few instances that resulted in bipartisan applause, but it's unclear to me whether Congress will act.

Fifth, the Trump accounts for kids (he claims he did not come up with the name), which will be seeded with $1,000 from the federal government, is an excellent idea and a way to help our children build a nest egg they can collect when they turn 18. He also deserves credit for eliminating taxes on tips (up to a point) and on overtime.

Sixth, his claim that tariffs could result in the elimination of income tax is sheer nonsense and would be regressive, hurting the poor.

Seventh, his claim to have stopped illegal immigration appears to be accurate.

Eighth, his claim that the economy is doing well is one with which most Americans disagree.

Ninth, his foreign policy is simply chaotic, but he avoided addressing many of the problems he himself has created, like alienating most of our allies.

I chalk up the extended length of the event to so many special introductions of guests. All very worthy, of course, so what are you gonna do?

He did hit Democrats hard. The man is fearless in the face of adversaries, an excellent quality in a leader, in my opinion. Nothing new here. He’s been that way his entire life. Not a phony act.

Those who have taken the time to truly investigate on their own, and not simply parrot weaponized media talking points do recognize Trump’s good achievements in office are many in number. He’s helping to make our nation stronger in many ways, although his style of leadership is too brash for most.

This man is an impediment to dirty, sneaky politics. What’s not to like about that?

We are watching one of the most consequential American Presidents in history, love him or hate him, he’ll not be forgotten. You’ll get someone else in there in a couple years, maybe sooner.

I had to turn him off at 10:40. I just couldn't take no more. You're right on with your observations. He kept poking his finger in the eye of the democrats (some of which they deserve) but exaggerated somewhat on his accomplishments with the economy. Although his numbers on illegal immigration are extremely good, it was the methodology by which he implemented his system for achieving his goal. He fudged the information about accomplishments in the medical arena and his foreign policies leave a lot to be desired. It was the Donald Trump show and he made the most of it. Fortunately for us, 2/3 of the voting public know what he's really all about.

I have to respectfully stage here, Bernie.

If you have a child within the (fairly narrow) birthdate bracket that would make them eligible for the government contribution, by all means, take it. Free money is free money. But parents should not put any of their own money into these. Trump accounts are probably the worst investment accounts available to help your kids build a nest egg.

Our takeaway the democrats are bad news for this country image if they get back into office High taxes, boys in girl sports, criminals running wild, killing babies, anti-Christian, no border, anyone can vote, cities will keep going downhill, prices will go sky high, Anti-Jewish sediment. Guns only for the criminals, free everything for illegals, easy on criminals, defund the police. That is our takeaway and that is exactly what you democrats will do to our country

The first thing the democrats proved by not standing is that they put illegal aliens ahead of us citizens how people vote for a democrat is beyond reason.

The Republican party is going to be obliterated November.

Last night I learned a lot more about Democrats than I did about Trump. I also learned that Senator Mark Kelly is as despicable as the animals he caucuses with, military service be damned.

Better than his speech is reading your whining. I voted to read you whine.

A pure waste of TV time. The only truth was "No one has seen anything like it". He literally exploited pain and suffering of families. You could tell the families were uncomfortable with his stretchy statements. Look at the 5-year trend of the DOW and you know he misspoke. Gas at main retailers in the LV is higher now than in Nov 2024. It is $3.39 at the name brands. Some price fixing going on folks. Even hospital jobs are not safe in the trump economy. It was a mockery of America250 to have George Washington's gavel witness such a monologue. Mid-term elections cannot come fast enough to Save America.

Israel is not alienated, but most of our "allies", as you call them, could give two shits about the US except for our protection and our cash handouts.

You're a braver soul than me. I gave up watching the SOTU sometime mid Bush 43. It's devolved into part show trial, part political theatre, part campaign pitch. Although, recognizing those worthy of honor is a nice touch and the only semblance of maturity and value the SOTU has anymore. I agree that sitting members of congress should attend, no matter how painful it is to watch Trump ramble on; it's part of their job. There are too many childish, bratty tantrums from both sides.

Not a Trump fan, but don't have TDS. He closed the border in five minutes and he's rounding up criminal scum that Democrats unleashed on us. I like that and want more. But he raised my taxes in the form of tariffs. Yes MAGA, tariffs are taxes. Companies and countries don't pay tariffs or taxes. We do. He's spoiling for an inexplicable war with Iran after promising he was not a non-stop war guy like Democrats and Bushes. I'm OK with smashing their nukes. We did that. I don't see a reason to start a war. I didn't watch the whole thing. I trust Ds didn't boo a kid dying of cancer or parents of a murdered daughter like last year. He's a mixed bag. But he's an improvement over what happened during Biden. Obama threw more illegals out of the country, while reminding us of the importance of waiting in line to enter. Trump needs to step up deportations to those levels. And any speech longer than 10 minutes is too long.

He needs to quit saying "I" It's "WE".
It doesn't help when you call the opposing party crazy.
The proper title is "Medal of Honor", not the Congressional Medal of Honor.
He forgot to give the VP and the Speaker their copies of his speech.
He forgot to comb his hair or hairpiece whichever it is.

Best part of the night - Al Green thrown got thrown out before the speech even got started.

Thank you to God that I am no longer a member of the Democrat party, a party that at one time meant something. It’s become a party of mean, vindictive and (last night) childish individuals who just want their own way whether that is right or wrong. No respect just venom and hatred. JD Vance in charge of fraud. I love it.

It was a Trump rally, much like we’ve seen before. An 80 year old man ranting that he doesn’t get credit for accomplishments that have only happened in his head. I’m sure he hasn’t been in a grocery store in years, but he’d be hard pressed to find anything that costs less today than it did two years ago. Eggs, eggs cost less. Rent? Does rent cost less? Who is this economy “roaring” for? DC safety? Brought down murders 100% in January? Except for the two murders that happened in January. When Trump starts talking numbers his knowledge of basic math becomes evident. I couldn’t help but think that his expressed love for the police didn’t seem to carry over to the Capitol Police who died as a result of January 6th.

Takeaways are from a deranged Trump hater means nothing .

My takeaway is the democrats are scum and you and them are on the wrong side of every issue.

Trump's State of the Union approval ratings per speech:

2017: 57%
2018: 48%
2019: 58%
2025: 39%
2026: 32%

Moreover, "America First" podcaster Nick Fuentes has sparked a firestorm within the conservative movement by predicting that President Trump and his cabinet will face impeachment following a disastrous performance by Republicans in the 2026 midterms.

Fuentes, once a vocal supporter, has increasingly turned on the administration, accusing Trump of "totally betraying" his base on core campaign promises such as mass deportations, foreign policy regarding Iran, and the handling of H-1B visas. He further cited the recent release of the Epstein Files as a "cover-up" that has disillusioned voters who expected total transparency and a complete dismantling of the "global elite".

The provocateur’s call to "burn down" the current GOP and rebuild it in 2028 highlights a deepening rift between the Trump administration and its most supporters. Fuentes argues that the Republican establishment has failed to deliver on its "America First" mandate, leading him to root for a midterm defeat as a necessary "reset" for the party.

Trump’s Gen Z support has dropped over 50 points with his net approval falling from roughly +10 in early 2025 to around −42 today.

Trump’s coalition of libertarians, populists, ideological extremists, centrists and traditional conservatives is disintegrating in real time. The majority which coalesced to elect Trump to his second term no longer exists, and this will manifest congressionally.

Pedophile supporter. Apparently you will overlook anything.

I am aware of other plans that are more flexible, but this is still a good IRA, especially if the feds kick in $1,000.

Ummm, I guess pedophilia is not as upsetting as those you listed?

Anonymous said...

So you disagreed with Green and you think blacks are apes AND you approve of the POTUS posting racist homemade videos? You're scum.

A follow up question should have asked that those who want the entire Epstein files released to please stand up!

democratic liberals are the real nazi

Interesting that Patel attached himself and became a sophomoric, beer bottle waving idiot for team USA Hockey. Honoring the team was inappropriate for a state of the Union address. I guess they are all honorary republicans now. What about all the other gold winners from the US? I guess Patel’s on camera antics wouldn’t bother me so much if there wasn’t an 84 year old woman that the FBI can’t find.

I saw a man convicted of 34 felonies and one conviction of sex abuse call democrats crazy because they could not vote for someone with his background.

Who ever votes for a democrat is an idiot or mentally deranged.

Mr. O'Hare, I'll get around to 47's babble on Friday. If I was one of the Democrats or one of the justices, I would have walked out. Perhaps as you say they should have attended, but like Popeye, they should only take so much.

Actually, voting for a Democrat these days just means you are generally misinformed about what’s truly going on politically in America today. You might have been lied to through endless news media propaganda, or maybe you follow the advice of some wacky entertainment or sports star. Either way, it might be best to just keep quiet and not embarrass yourself in public.

Huh? He said nothing about Bill Clinton and his zillion trips to Epstein's island.
