Robert Brooks. - reports assets and unearned income of at least $963,000. This includes a residential rental property valued at between $250,000 and $500,000 and the stocks in multiple mutual funds. He reports salaries of $20,000 from Bethlehem and $50,000 from the Pa Professional Firefighter's Ass'n, as well as business income of $15,000 from his lawn care business. He reports debt of between $380,000 and $850,000 based on a residential mortgage, an investment property mortgage, and outstanding debt to Darrell and Linda Crook. He failed to list a $130,000 judgment owed to Carol Wiley, his former mother-in-law, since 2022.
A title search of Northampton County records reveal that Brooks owns no real estate under his own name, nor is there any recorded mortgage in which he is listed.
Something is very fishy about Brooks' disclosure.
I am not the only one confused. SpotlightPa has published a story that notes that, while Brooks likes to portray himself as a "working-class fighter" who is sick of Congressmen getting rich by trading stocks. But his disclosure reveals that he and his current wife have quite the portfolio. Here's an excerpt:
Of U.S. immigration law enforcement, Brooks writes in his campaign platform: “In America, we don’t send masked men to kidnap people off the street and throw them into unmarked cars. It’s bullshit and un-American.” Brooks’ wife owns up to $1,000 worth of stock in government contractor Palantir, a company co-founded by Republican megadonor Peter Thiel that provides technology to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to find and deport undocumented immigrants.
Regarding Americans staying healthy, Brooks writes: “No more lining the pockets of insurance and drug company bosses. Healthcare should work for people.” Brooks or his wife owns stock in several pharmaceutical and health insurance companies, including drugmaker AbbVie (up to $1,000), pharmaceuticals and medical products distributor Cardinal Health (up to $15,000), insurance company Elevance Health (up to $15,000) and insurance company Humana (up to $1,000), according to his financial disclosure.
In a statement to NOTUS, Brooks’ campaign manager Jenna Kaufman said Brooks has never personally traded stocks — the couple uses a professional investment management firm to steer their stock holdings, according to Brooks’ financial disclosure.
“Once in Congress, neither he nor his wife will own individual stocks,” said Kaufman, who did not answer questions about the couple’s personal investment philosophy or indicate whether Brooks and his wife would divest of their individual stock holdings in the meantime.
Among other stocks owned by Brooks or his wife: shares of Chevron, Meta, Nvidia and Tesla. Brooks and his wife together also own between $2,000 and $30,000 worth of stock in Amazon.com, which has faced accusations of illegal union busting and formal complaints alleging as much.
Brooks’ exact net worth is unclear, as congressional candidates are only required by law to list the values of their assets and liabilities in broad ranges, such as “$1,001 to $15,000” or “$50,001 to $100,000.”
Taken together, Brooks and his wife could be worth as little as about $148,000 and as much as $3.89 million, according to a NOTUS analysis of more than 220 individual assets and liabilities Brooks disclosed on Jan. 28.

He is a private citizen with an investment portfolio that it seems he doesn’t personally manage. This is such an obvious oppo piece placed by another campaign and frankly it’s pathetic. He/his campaign say that if he’s elected he’ll divest. The issue with congressional trading is having insider information and not that owning stocks is evil or bad. This is being ridiculed elsewhere as it should.
Our system is totally corrupt want to be a Millionaire go to congress and these people will never change the system.
Hopefully, Americans will one day realize that the best and brightest do not run for political office. Sadly it is often those who need recognition or desire a nice pension in the future, or multiple pensions. It is a job, that is maintained by forming narratives and images without much substance.
He's Shapiro's boy. He's a gift to Mackenzie. He won't speak with SpotlightPA because Shapiro has instructed him that interviews and debates are not helpful. He's a coward who is following a coward's playbook.
Ryan M wins this race hands down. He is doing a decent job and the dem pretenders are of very weak quality.
The PA-7 race seems to have attracted all the stooges who couldn't cut in Vaudeville.
I actually find your earlier analysis more damning the stock holdings report. The individual stock holdings look quite modest (less than or around 5 shares each of ABBV, Palantir and Humana), so I wonder if these are part of a mutual fund investment. Even the larger holdings are only 100-200 shares. The bottom end of the net worth range shouldn’t be unusual for a sensible “solidly blue collar” couple in middle age, but admittedly, the top end is 5% territory, and that’s quite a broad range. There is a real problem with the loosey goosey reporting requirements.
He has a money manager for his investment portfolio, not uncommon. He's also said he will divest if we wins the race. This is a nothingburger of a story and he's the only one close to Croswell in fundraising and isn't a carpetbagging former Republican masquerading as a dem to cynically win the seat. It's going to come down to Brooks or Mackenzie in November
I believe Spotlight PA has tagged him, not for having a rather healthy stock portfolio, but for being such a damn hypocrite about it. So now we have source, in addition to Wilkins' blog and me, who have raised questions about this guy's honesty. I don't know how you run for Congress when you have an unpaid judgment to a family member.
There is nothing hypocritical about saying members of Congress shouldn’t trade stocks while owning stocks as a private individual. Others have asked if it’s hypocritical to have health insurance when campaigning on Medicare for all. See how dumb that is. This is a nothing burger the unpaid judgment is more interesting. Still don’t think it moves the race at all but now that we ran this story first in a “real newspaper” (NOTUS where it really comes from is far from a real source of news) they have given Brooks more name ID over a petty issue voters won’t care about. So the next time someone attacks him it’s just part of what the “media” does a la Trump. Same stupid democratic consultant strategy
If he can't manage his own money, why should he be in Congress managing taxpayer's money? If you aren't sophisicated enough to know that financial planners are scam bullshit artists, you shouldn't be in Congress.
Isn’t the real question, how does a twice married guy, who has spent the last 20 years working FULL TIME, end up a millionaire with investment properties ?
So it’s Taco Tuesday?
Trump Always Chickens Out and Ryan will too if he has to debate McClure.
If only that was how life worked. As long as there is a D there they will be elected. See the husband of a certain ex council member from Easton. Absolutely qualified -NOT!!
If everyone who forgot about money they "promised to pay back" to parents were excluded not many would be left. I have a modest pension. Thank God for the stock market that helps fund my pension. However, I will not vote for him because he is a scum bag Democrat along with sleezy Shapiro. Every time I see a post from Shapiro I want to go take a shower with lye soap.
Crooksy for a reason.
There will be negative posts about every Dem candidate on this blog…….with the exception of Lamont of course.
Actually, this story is critical mostly of Brooks, but McClure, Obando-Derstine and Pinsley also have stocks. They just haven't been hypocritical about it.
They all had the same position about banning stock trading at the recent forum i believe. But it doesn’t matter you’ve got a narrative to push for your boy Lamont
How is this hypocritical? Your stock investments are to make money for yourself. They don't need to align with your political beliefs and what you would do in Congress if the goal is to make money for yourself. Stock investment is for yourself, voting and making laws in Congress is for everybody.
If it's not hypocritical, why did Brooks refuse to make himself available? Why hide behind anonymous supporters?
Union stooge
That's basically the American Dream wtf are you talking about
you continue to carry water for your boy McClure. If he does for Congress what he did for Gracedale we are all screwed. He does not deserve to be nominated by Democrats.
