Pa Lawmakers Blow By June 30 Budget Deadline

Will Governor Josh Shapiro convince the state senate to spend $292 million for mass transit funding throughout the state? Why is the state senate so reluctant to impose a 52% tax on supposed skill games? Could it be because manufacturer Pace-O-Matic has spent $618,000 in campaign contributions and another $440,000 in lobbying expenses in 2024 alone? What about the state's constitutional obligation to provide all children, even poor children, with a "thorough and efficient" education system?  Finally, what impact will cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, if passed by US Congress, have on Pennsylvania? These questions are currently unanswered. Until they are, Pa lawmakers are unable to pass a budget.

While state legislators continue to collect salaries and per diems, school districts and counties will see the cash faucets go dry in about two weeks. They will be forced to rely on their own reserves or borrow money.

I guess we need to ask the useless R’s in the senate.

I like the ‘rely on their own resources’ aspect of this budgetary delay.

The present Bill in Congress does NOT eliminate Medicaid. I does require some able-bodied people to work up to 20 hours per week in order to continue receiving benefits. That part seems appropriate to me.

Too many taxes and tax increases for those of us with skin in the game. You wouldn't understand. I played a violin soundtrack while reading your pathetic whining. Is your favorite store "WahWah?" You'll get your handouts. Calm down and wait.

Any elected legislative body that vote to impose a 52% TAX ON ANY activity, business, or company should be immediately removed from office with prejudice.

It is truly sad that our two party system has brought us to this. There is so many things need fixing and all our elected officials can think of is what do I need to do to stay in power. The taxes that are paid to the Federal Government by the States needs to be addressed. The formulas for money coming back to the states is in dire need of readjustment. For example...(highway gas taxes). The old formula favors the Southern States and Penalizes the Northern Industrial States. Just look at the highways in the North as compared to the highways in the south. Our Northern highways are in a state of disrepair compared to the South. Have you taken a trip lately? This is just one example. The list is long and dire need of change.

They are able to pass a budget. Just work with what you have. Amend later, up or down

They're all pathetic- and BTW, Bob Freeman is a perfect example of why we need term limits!

There is no reason to INCREASE spending on mass transit by over a quarter BILLION dollars. The driving force behind the proposed $292 million increase is to bail out SEPTA and its $213 million budget DEFICIT.

It is long past time that these organizations right-sized their operations and charged the appropriate fees.

My personal feeling is that these organizations are over-inflating their ridership to cover their top-heavy spending and excessive waste. And it never ends! If this increase passes this year, they will soon be back at the trough again. They already get enough.

Public transport in PA supposedly serves 1 million riders per day. That’s 365 million riders a year.

If you divide the $292 million increase by those 365 million riders, that’s literally 80 cents per ride. To use a line that we usually hear from our politicians, that’s “less than a cup of coffee a day” (and not even a premium cup of coffee at that).

PA budget problem solved.

Has Bob Freeman ever earned an honest dollar? Is he stll alive? Is Lisa Boscola still drinking? Is sleazy Slushberg still voting for reps who aren't even in Harrisburg? Has Ann Flood ever worked a day in office? These are valid questions for the largest and laziest state legislature in the country.

No matter if the state pays for a program, or the federal government pays for the same program . . . . . WE are still the one who actually puts out the money!

Agree, our people in CONgress no longer serve average, everyday working taxpayers. Both parties are failing us. Remove as many of them as you can next time you vote.

A majority of those on Medicare already do work! This is designed to hurt people with red tape, to punish the poor and disabled and those who care for them. But please keep calling the Republican Party “pro-life” and the party of the average American

It’s for slot machines in gas stations I think taxing them at 52% isn’t high enough get rid of them!

PA raised the gas tax for the roads. What happened to that? So money is allocated for these projects it’s just stolen by the politicians to pay for other crap.
