According to CrimeRadar, EMS was dispatched to Gracedale yesterday afternoon for a potential suicide.
The audio transcript is as follow: "Be advised, we have EMS going to Gracedale. It's going to be room Bravo [redacted]. A 70-year-old female attempted to hang herself. She put a stocking around her neck. She's currently awake and breathing."
NorCo Exec Tara Zrinski was informed by Gracedale administrators that there was actually no attempted suicide because staff intervened after the resident tied stockings around her neck. The resident was taken to the hospital.
It's very disturbing to hear of a potential suicide at a nursing home or the jail. But this is actually a positive report about Gracedale. Staff intervened before this woman could hurt herself. It is actually a credit to the people who work there.
At the jail, there have been two suicides where corrections officers were less successful. But I know from speaking to them that they have stopped far more suicides. We only hear about it when there is a rare failure.
Obviosly, this Gracedale incident will have to be investigated by the state Department of Health, and I'm unable to rule out potential violations. But to me, the important thing is that they prevented a death.

Maybe she just forgot how to get dressed. Great cover story for the admin and council.
When elder care is just a number to collect fees from Medicare these institutions have sunk to a low. Glad that this lost family neglected lady will possibly getting the help she needs.
That’s a good job by staff! Suicides are very hard to stop, especially in a correctional setting. Many times it’s another inmate or resident who alerts staff, or staff that are on their toes notice a change in demeanor.
Great news regardless of Gracedale opinions. Hat tip to the life savers.
Waiting for the decision on DOH
Missstep.
Working at a nursing home is very difficult. Gracedale has bad problems and needs to improve but most of the staff is great.
They deal with people most of the rest of us would prefer to ignore. They see things on a daily basis that many of us couldn’t bear.
There are always problems at nursing homes, especially the homes of last resort.
Glad this worked out as they did, but this sentence makes no sense:

If there was no attempted suicide, then why are we lauding Gracedale staffers for stopping a suicide?
If the sentence is correct and Gracedale administrators don’t think it was an attempted suicide, then we have bigger problems than we could have previously imagined.
Maybe it was simply someone sitting around with a stocking around their neck waiting to be discovered, so then maybe it’s not an attempted suicide but just a cry for attention/help.
But I don’t think you can say they stopped an attempted suicide, while at the same time having the nursing home claim there was no attempted suicide.
I believe you and perhaps the county are both being a tad semantical. If she wrapped the stockings around her neck and was in the act of hanging herself, it clearly would be an attempted suicide. She was stopped before it reached that point, which is why I called it a "potential" suicide. She clearly was not making a fashion statement and I do laud the staffers who stopped her. The dispatcher called it an attempted suicide.

Words have meaning. I appreciate your use of the term “potential suicide”, because it denotes that there seems to be a discrepancy between what the dispatcher is saying vs. what Gracedale officials are saying.
It seems to me that there are many missing facts here. Some might assume that the Gracedale resident was in the process of taking the next step in a suicide attempt, like tying the stockings off to something to hang themself from.
They also could have simply put the stocking around their neck for attention.
Or they could have actually been trying to cut off their airflow by simply tightening the stockings around their neck without tying it off to anything else. If that’s the case, it would be fair to ask how long the person had it around their neck and how long it was between checks on this person (to determine how long they might have had their airflow constricted).
My point is that we can all theorize about what may have happened or didn’t happen, but I think it’s premature to congratulate or condemn Gracedale until we have all the facts.
Tara needs to read EMS report before speaking. The State Report will spill the beans.
