Politics PA: Independents Are on the Rise

PoliticsPA reports that independent voters are on the rise. Of the 67,000 residents who registered to vote since September, 70% of them chose no political affiliation. This is in no doubt due to disenchantment with both political parties. I'd be registered independent myself if I could vote in primaries.

In the Pa. 7th Congressional district, 3,300 new voters are independents. Democrats have picked up 1,431, while Republicans only attracted 849. Independents currently make up 16.91% of the district's total voters.

This increase in the number of independent voters is precisely why they should be included in local election boards, as Lehigh County has proposed.

Hmmm? Who's the majority of change? Like the democrat billionaire who threw Dem Salwell out of his building?

Each party claims a “mandate” when they win. The only reason they win is because they’re not the party in power. 70% of the people want bipartisanship and compromise, yet the far left 15%, and the far right 15% control the parties. Open up the primaries and will get better candidates in the general election.

You ... Independent? Bawhaha! That's the funniest sentence you've ever written. You're a zombie Democrat. You're a loyal stenographer for whatever Democrat is lying. Touch grass and be honest. Good grief.

I wonder how many independents vote straight ticket for R or D (in the fall) and just register as independent thinking it makes them feel like independent thinkers and better than anyone else. The real independents are those who vote for the best candidate even that means crossing party lines or casting votes for third party like Green or Libertarian.

I was a Democrat for decades, even served on a re-election committee for an Allentown City Council person. Then, after becoming disgusted by Democrat bully tactics and twisting of laws, shady election tactics to serve a radical Liberal agenda, I switched to Republican. Ten years of Republican incompetence and weakness in office was enough for me, so I’m now registered in Northampton County as No-Party. Couldn’t be happier to throw off those other 2 labels.

My point is this, more Americans need to realize, at the Federal Level for sure, both Democrats and Republicans are WORKING TOGETHER as one, big political elite group designed to strengthen their own power and prestige over we lowly citizens. We, the regular taxpaying people back home, are seen these days as merely standing in their way, blocking their path to greater control and gaining personal riches for themselves.

Democrats are doing most of the dirty work now to bring down the America we grew up with, while their Republican teammates are content to just watch, secure in knowing that even by losing they (Republicans) can simply remain in place and enjoy all the same spoils of all the misbehavior and waste.

Our American Congress is an absolute mess. Not everyone there, of course, but most of them really serve no purpose other than for their own self-interest. We taxpayers, are NOT the focus.

Time to throw out Incumbents in BOTH parties!

Go ahead, keep voting Democrat or Republican, but at least put DIFFERENT people into office. That’s the key. I have personally decided to give any politician serving in the first term in office a little more patience. But, after 2 terms, there will be no more votes from me. This applies local, state, and federal.

I do expect the Democrats to re-take majorities, but that’s nothing for me to be happy about, it will just speed up our country’s decline. The mess we are in will take years to fix.

Not sure how or why anyone would identify with either party right now. All they do anymore is showboat and promote their own radical/extremist positions, blame the other party for rejecting their radical/extremist ideas and raise money for themselves. They don't want to help the average citizen. They want to help themselves first, and their wealthy donors second. There is no third place to consider. We need open primaries and age limits on representatives (60 years), senators (65 years) Presidents (70 years) and Supreme Court Justices (70 years). Also - get rid of Presidential pardons and put strict limits and guard rails on Executive Orders.

“Independents are on the rise.”
No shit.

90% of the newly minted Independents are disaffected Dems fed up with the woke “progressive/lib” nonsense.

Let them vote in the primaries long over due

The only true independents left in the country are journalists and bloggers. Truth, integrity, and equanimity run paramount in that class. We need to listen and learn and model ourselves better from their example.

And an equal amount of Republicans who dont watch FOX News 24/7 and lap up the chaos clown show currently in progress.

Lol, I never claimed to be free of opinion. I have plenty. But I try to tell the truth, to be honest. A sportswriter can have all sorts of opinions but has to be honest to be credible. That is basically what I try to do. Anyone who claims to have no opinions and no bias is lying to himself. But yes, I am an independent by nature. I have probably voted for as many Rs as Ds in my lifetime. I am highly critical of both parties, although I tend to lean a little left.

I agree with you. Anyone old enough to vote and who is a citizen should be permitted to vote in the primary. The 'system' seems to do its best to marginalize anyone not associated with the 2 party system.

Independents are on the rise is just a rebrand for ex-MAGATS that are too proud to admit they got played. It wasn’t principle that changed their minds, it was self-interest.

Only when the consequences hit them personally did they suddenly ‘see the light,’ after years of ignoring the warnings...

They can eat crap.
