Latest CMS Gracedale Rating - "Much Below Average"

The latest Medicare rating for Gracedale is out and it's pretty bad. It has dropped to just one star - "much below average." It is a precipitous drop from its 4-star rating - "above average" - in February. I have previously told you about a rash of substantiated complaints brought against the home, which no doubt play a role in the latest rating.

Of course it is. It would appear that Michelle Morgan was not truthful about Gracedale in her final report. Don’t think for one minute that she didn’t know this (she appears to have known it all). Council (especially the new council members) need to understand what this means before just dumping more money into Gracedale. One star does not mean Gracedale is “Number one”. It’s the opposite. Sad for the remaining loyal Gracedale employees still working there. Frightening for the residents who live there.

It’s up to Tara now to rescue the operation. It’s very telling that a quick search on the Medicare website shows that Lehigh County, Berks County, Bucks County, Delaware County, and Chester County all run nursing homes that are rated five stars here in eastern PA. Lamont was not up to the task of being a caretaker of the operation.

Holy shit that’s a free fall.

“We’re No. 1!”

so now what? Sell it to the highest bidder and save the county millions a year?

Correction - Morton not Morgan and she’s apparently still
there. Maybe get on it County Council.

We are not going to forget this lying piece of crap and what he is doing to us and the County. Gracedale was once the shining light of Northampton County Government. Thank you Mr. McClure.
Now this Council must step up and fund all these short falls that McClure is leaving them. If they don't do something, they will be the ones blamed for this mess.

It is run by government people what do you expect.

Not up to Tara, it’s up to ALL of Council to shed their thin skin and work as they should to either fix and improve the home, or sell it.

The precipitous rating drop didn’t happen overnight. Gracedale is a multidimensional responsibility that is impacted by bed count, census numbers, rehabilitation services, patient and resident salon services, cafeteria centers, and more. The past council members and new executive, for years, heard and discussed the personnel, salary, and financial burdens. They failed by not reaching out to existing successful county homes to draw from their successes and expertise in management .Either this council decides to reset a professional management group to run the home, as was done prior, or accept the responsibility of selling it.

Gracedale was in trouble years before this administrator took over. You should all know that when asked to speak at council meetings it is all cleared first as to what you are allowed to say. The county runs this not the administrator or director of nursing. If they are good they say what is really happening behind closed doors and fight for their home residents and staff. You can have staff accountability but not when 80 percent is agency. Thats just impossible to have quality when staff don't know policy and procedure and arent invested in care. Mcclure put yes people who kept quiet and ultimately ran this nursing home into the ground. The building and necessary equipment has been neglected. No long term plan was in place despite best efforts of management. The unions ruined gracedale too. Staff wanted mcclure and look what they ended up with. Bless those that are there and still trying.

That crazy lady allegedly tried to perform an exorcism and 2 highly mobile guys who should be in a state hospital escaped for a few hours and they got cited for those things which caused the Rating to drop.

There's not enough money to fund everything else and you want to raise taxes to fund this loser--SELL it

Bernie, perhaps read and reference the most recent Gracedale event dated 10/17/2025.

Actually, I saw that yesterday and will probably reference it Monday with a review of the worst homes.

The cost to keep Gracedale’s running well is/was about $2 million per year. It may have gone up but let’s get the real figures to the taxpayers.

The proposed budget at Gracedale this year is $89 million. The proposed budget for this year shows that no county contribution is needed.

Cut through the smoke and mirrors. Gracedale carries a 1 million plus price need per year, should this new executive, council, and administration NOT come up with a solid, well constructed plan to bring money into the facility, the taxes WILL go up, or the home’s fate will be in their hands. Either way, years of not planning well, and dismissal of a professional home care management team created this debacle.

What county executive is responsible for this disastrous report?
