This is a reminder that there will be a candidates' night for Northampton County District Attorney candidates Steve Baratta and Terry Houck on Tuesday, March 28, 7 pm at the Oliver Border House located at 15 Wood Street, Nazareth, Pa. 18064 ( right by Holy Family Church). The public is welcome.
Both candidates will be given an opportunity to make opening statements and then respond to each other. After they have finished, it will be your turn to ask questions
Both candidates are Democrats. Unless there's a write-in campaign on the Republican side, this race will be decided in the primary.
The Morning Call will be there, and I will see what I can do about having someone shoot a Facebook Live of the event.
Parking in available on Center and Wood Streets. Parking in the lots is limited to building residents
I tried to schedule this night so that candidates could make their pitches before mail-in ballots go out so you can make an informed decision.
The last to register or change your party registration is May 1.
Will there be other candidates' nights?
In the Fall, I plan to schedule candidates' nights for the Judge, County Controller and County Council D3 races on separate evenings. But I'd like to devote one night specifically to the DA's race in the primary.
I would like a different choice. Houck lost my confidence early on with that cop that drank for 12 hours at Woody's and flipped his car on Drosnok's property. And subsequently wasn't charged. And I have no confidence in Baratta being any different. BTW Morganelli was our best except he didn't seize Policeli's property from that DEA raid for Extacy.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for arranging this, Bernie. As I have said countless times, without your oversight and reporting, the people of NC would be in the dark about things other than cheesesteaks and advice columns.
ReplyDeleteHow is the space/set up/tear down/etc being paid for? Is it being donated?
ReplyDelete"How is the space/set up/tear down/etc being paid for? Is it being donated?"
ReplyDeleteNo. It is available to building residents who reserve the community room on a first come, first serve basis. There's nothing to set up or take down because tables and chairs are already there.

ReplyDeleteI doubt anyone meets your high standards. That cop was charged.

ReplyDeleteThanks. Makes perfect sense. Just wondered how you made this happen. I think it's a good thing and I salute your effort. I hope it delivers a more meaningful and civil debate than we've been getting lately - when we get one at all. Perhaps you will make debates great again. Last cycle's debate avoidance was an embarrassing afront to voters.
This is not a per se debate. It would be unfair of me to moderate a debate or even be involved in selecting a moderator. So I would just like to see the two candidates exchange views, head to head, and respond to audience questions.
ReplyDeleteOh! So a debate?
DeleteEither of these guys getting any financial backing from George Soros?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to attending and glad it's in nearby Naz Vegas. I hope these forums catch on. More discussion and debate are better than less, as we just experienced with cowardly Democrats refusing to come out of their moldy basements to face voters they locked up and forced shots on for two years under threat of losing employment and health care. I think Houck stumbled badly in his first days by screwing up the SBRPD case, for whatever motivations. Other issues will certainly be discussed. But this case is a poisonous sleeper issue with voters who were immediately soured toward Terry and haven't liked him since. This race is a layup for lifetime local, Baratta. It's his to lose.
ReplyDeleteBoy if this isn't true but sadly Lehigh County is the loser. Just imagine if Bernie reported on Lehigh's government as well.

ReplyDeleteYou can ask that stupid question yourself. In fact, I hope you do so we all know who you are.
I would be very interested to know whether either or both candidates would commit to supporting the 14 principles set forth by the ABA in their 2023 report on plea bargaining.

If you want answers to your questions, you'll need to be there to ask it or ask a friend who is going. I am asking no questions.
ReplyDeleteI wish you could zoom broadcast this.
