It's an excellent speech, delivered about a week later than it should have been. Better late than never. I hope it deters any violence in the protests planned this weekend and next week. Hopefully, it means the next few days will be peaceful.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
This speech is *only* better late than never, because of the threat of even more attacks - which is all on Trump. His months of lies about the election. If he hadn't lied about the election, including before it even took place, none of this including Jan 6 would have happened. Mr. "Law and Order" appeals to white nationalists, racists, and wingnuts. Someone else wrote this speech and twisted his arm, and you *know* he means none of it. I give him zero credit for this and we'll see if it makes any difference to his followers.
ReplyDeleteIt was a collection of excellent words delivered without conviction. If the speaker believed in what they were saying, then it would elevate to an excellent speech.
ReplyDeleteStill did not concede or say the election was fair and the count was accurate
ReplyDeleteTrump unequivocally must be impeached! No mater how long it takes! The USA needs to do this so that an insurrection never happens again and show the world that our republic is strong.

ReplyDeleteAs long as kool-aid is being served, trumpsters will be trumpsters! Accept the fact that there was no voter fraud (please show me)! tRump lied to us over and over again!
ReplyDeletehis speech was a joke, his followers don't believe he means it, and he doesn't mean a word of it, he loves violence and chaos.
ReplyDeleteTrump will, sooner or later, try to release his Kraken.
ReplyDeleteI personally doubt that his oh-so-brave rioters will have the courage to attack the Capitol again anytime soon.
I suspect that more Republicans will come to their senses if Trump's minions succeed in hurting more people. Stay tuned.
ReplyDeleteI've seen more conviction, emotion and effort in hostage videos.
ReplyDeleteNothing that he said or says will be accepted by those with closed minds. That is why this country won't heal. Because of the above thinking. Thanks Bernie for acknowledging his effort
ReplyDeleteThis country will never heal--short of all out civil war
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to publish any more comments that appear to hope for a civil war.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it all the guys with a hard on for "Civil War" are overweight out of shape cosplay nerds?
ReplyDeleteThey had a chance to join the armed forces but were too lazy out of high school, maybe applied for law enforcement but were too dumb. Now they're in dead end jobs and like to hang out with other dudes playing dress up and fantasize about killing fellow Americans that they don't agree with.
Sad.
