WaPoPoll: 58% of Americans Now Support Impeachment Inquiry

A poll was conducted for the Washington Post by the Schar School of Policy and Government between October 1-6 of a random national sample of 1,007 adults (69% reached via cell phone). This poll reveals the following:
  • 58% of Americans now support the impeachment inquiry initiated by the U.S. House
  • 60% of Americans believe Donald Trump is unethical
This group identified itself as Independent (44%), Democrat (30%), Republican (25%), no opinion (1%).

So far as I can tell, this poll failed to ask whether those sampled are actual voters.

The Washington Post(Jeff Bezos/Amazon) are known Trump-haters and globalists. They can contract for a survey showing any result they want. Probably, 95% of any group polled would approve of receiving free stuff. But, they wouldn't actually vote that way.

Agree, there are probably 60% of respondents who think Trump is unethical.

When you identify actual High Crimes and Misdemeanors, a formal impeachment could work. This Inquiry STUNT is far from legitimate.

Oh yea!? There was a “poll” out on election night having Hillary up by 12% how did that turn out? Madam President? I don’t think so!

Given the level of controversy about the President’s actions, a formal impeachment inquiry seems legitimate. Such an inquiry should be open, transparent, and provide all parties with equal ability to discover the facts. As currently structured in the House, only one side has the ability to issue subpoenas and call witnesses. This all but guarantees that the information gathered will be tainted and one sided.
A legitimate inquiry must be opened, as was done with Nixon and Clinton, by having a House vote to open the inquiry so that both parties have equal abilities to discover the facts. The current process under way in the House, without a vote by the House as a whole, will only result in a partisan and tainted result.

11:17, I’d love to see a return to the bipartisan approach we had with Nixon. Unfortunately, the Congress is hopelessly polarized, and it is clear to me that the GOP members in the House have no interest in determining the truth.

I'm amazed how both camps have already decided the outcome. I think we've lost our collective effing minds. Pols will only stick with the narrative which will get them re-elected.

So we think the opinions of people who are stupid enough to answer a call from an unknown caller are an accurate measure of public sentiment?

The GOP members in the House aren't needed to do a REAL Impeachment process. The Dems have a good majority there. It's the Dems who seem afraid of a real Impeachment Trial in which the Defense gets to call witnesses, etc.

Actually, it's the RINO, UniParty Republicans (like Toomey) who will make this happen if it gets to the Senate. Trump threatens not just you, but everyone in Congress who wants their gravy train to keep rolling along.

Odd. When the polls favored not moving for impeachment, Trumpkins believed them to be accurate.
Now, when virtually every poll conducted shows the public believes Trump should be impeached, they are not to be believed.

Obviously, these polls spell bad news for Democrats. There's a reason they haven't moved to a formal vote. They're scared to death because they know what it will mean at the ballot box and don't want to be Brer Fox. Impeachment is Trump's only hope at pulling off another electoral miracle. That's why there's no vote scheduled, despite the transcript being available for all to see. As Dems masturbate to impeachment porn and MSNBC, Trump will be cruising to a victory that Dems handed him. And let's mourn the death of Joe Biden's political career. No matter how this plays out, he's already dead, and just too stupid or stubborn to fall over.

Trump's horrendous decision to pull our support of the Kurds is just one more impeachable offense in my opinion. I remember clearly as the war unfolded the concerns over the Kurds, and what they have done to combat ISIS through today. They have something like 50,000-60,000 terrorists in detainment, and the loss of our support means those terrorists could very well be set free. This man is an impulsive menace to our national security. Anyone who can't see that the requests for foreign powers to dig up dirt on the Bidens or any political rival merit impeachment, is not looking.

Now we're suppose to collectively care about Kurds or Syrians.

Independents hate impeachment. Rs learned this in the Clinton years, and Independents are a much larger bloc now. There's a reason smart Ds are slow walking this. They could successfully vote on articles of impeachment this afternoon. All of this would be meaningful if the transcript wasn't already public. But it is.

Hope it shows just how bad / desperate the Democrats really are. Biden is the real issue meeting with Ukraine , yet somehow it is Trump's fault. Just like Hillary's emails , giving the Iranians ( a terrorist state) Federal $$$$ and nuke material . ????? Like to know who the whistleblowers are? We have a right to know also if the democrats have a right to know everything that supposedly takes place behind closed doors or in the Presidents private life. It is downright spying which is treason. The overthrow attempt continues. Like how they are truly attempting to solve America's issues. NOT ! Shameful and Pitiful.

No, just the Repubs have lost their minds. It is obvious this President is corrupt and enriching himself and his family via his office. The Democrats haven't changed to accept this like Repubs have. The Repubs have rejected law and order.

Bernie @ 5:27 – “Sorry it is pretty much only the GOP in the House and Senate who have stood reality on its head.the majority of Dems resisted an impeachment inquiry until left with no choice.”
Reality seems to change with your point of view and bias. One sees a President inquiring about the admitted corrupt acts of a high-ranking elected official and investigation of interference with our elections and the other sees a President trying to get dirt on a political opponent. Which one is standing reality on its head?
But if impeachment is so necessary, is it also necessary to do it by a kangaroo court? Why not follow precedent and do a House vote so the other side can also issue subpoenas and call witnesses. It would seem that the process is designed to get the desired result of the ones in charge, an example of the left’s lack of desire to get the truth. It would seem that they do, in fact, have a choice.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Nothing in the Constitution, statute, or House rules requires a House vote to commence impeachment proceedings.Your argument is sheer nonsense perpetuated by Trump's minions, whose game plan is to obfuscate, delay, attack and repeat. Trump is in the Pelosi wheelhouse now, and she has no obligation to kiss his ass. If she does decide to call a vote, and she could, that will indicate to me she intends to seek an impeachment. Or she could just let this play out. This is her call as the House Speaker, not Trump's.

11:25, The Democrats have the votes necessary to impeach already. They are trying to build up a body of evidence for the trial in the Senate. In order for that effort to be fruitless, members of the administration will have to stop admitting to crimes on live television.

Read the White House reply to the Democrats in the House written by WH Attorney Cipollone. The full text is available with footnotes. You will find there IS a problem with the Constitutionality of this Inquiry scheme. It relates to Rights of Due Process AND the Supreme Court has already ruled it DOES apply to Impeachment Proceedings.

Trump (on several occasions) has demanded a full vote in the House. Until then, there is no obligation to participate in what is being called a "kangeroo court." The Inquiry nonsense can continue on, of course. Just more propaganda.

“Nothing in the Constitution, statute, or House rules requires a House vote to commence impeachment proceedings.”

Valid point but I believe your strong feelings about Trump have overcome your legal training and desire for a fair trial…and an impeachment inquiry is much like a trial. And, if what I write is “nonsense,” wouldn’t a formal inquiry overcome your histrionics about GOP obfuscation?

And to allow Trump the ability to defend himself is having Pelosi “kiss his ass”?

Your lack of fairness and equity surprises me unless, in your case, Pope was correct: “All seems infected that the infected spy, As all looks yellow to the jaundiced eye.”

Anonymous said...

Fact is, any Impeachment decision will NOT hold up in court. Impeachment IS a trial and due process is REQUIRED. A removal of Trump would be overturned by the Supreme Court.

What the Dems are trying to do here is flood the media with slanted fodder, to get a witness to slip-up on some minor detail, etc. Best for the Trump White House to ignore the whole thing until each Dem in the House take personal responsibility with their vote, then open the effort in correct form with an opportunity for the defense to call it's own witnesses and require uncovering of documents.

Go ahead, Nancy. Let's get it on!

8:57, otherwise known as an equal to the great mind of Einstein:

"In Walter L. Nixon v. United States, the court held that the judiciary could not review impeachment proceedings. According to the constitution, the House has the "sole power of impeachment" and the Senate has the "sole power to try all impeachments." The Supreme Court considered this sufficient evidence that the framers did not want the judiciary involved. Further, because judges themselves can be impeached, it would violate separation of powers to allow them to review such cases.

Remember back in 2012
Mr: Obama: “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this can be solved, but it’s important for him to give me space,”
Mr. Medvedev: “Yeah, I understand, I understand your message about space. Space for you ... .”
Mr. Obama: “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.”
Mr. Medvedev: “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir”

Delay your push for missile defense until after my election (since it could be perceived negative to my re-election against Romney, who pointed out the Russia threat) and I’ll have more flexibility to give you more wiggle room in our future agreement.

Far more direct than the Trump phone call. Involves Foreign actors. Involves Russia and Putin. And it doesn’t exclude 542 words between the work “favor” and “Biden” in the Trump transcript.

CLEAR. AS. DAY.

Where are the headlines?

The present "Inquiry" can NOT result in an actual impeachment. A formal full vote in the House could lead to the process moving to the Senate. Only after passage there, AFTER DUE PROCESS PROTECTION, can a real impeachment be determined.

What's going on now is for show, has no subpoena power, and can be ignored. Just have a full House vote and get on with it. That should pass easily due to the Democrat majority. However, there are 16 brand new House members who were elected in Districts won by Trump! A risky move by them.

If it does pass an official House majority vote, THEN there's more risk for Dems through the discovery process and witness testimony. They better be sure their OWN closets are clean!

1:02 “The defense of the President happens in the Senate, Archimedes. My god, man, these people are slap happy idiots.”

Inquiry – An examination into facts or principle: RESEARCH. (per Merriam-Webster).

Valid point as the trial, prosecution and defense, happens in the Senate but only after the House actually impeaches. Ms. Pelosi said she is opening an impeachment “inquiry” yet, by your statement and thought, it does not involve an examination of all the facts but only those of the prosecution whose mind is made up already so has little interest in the facts of the other side. Any verdict from the House will, therefore, be tainted, one sided, and highly partisan…which the public will see for what it is. This can be avoided, however, with a vote and a real “inquiry.”

As for your slur equating me to Archimedes (for which I thank you), I think I am more like Nostradamus.

Nostradomus, 2:39 - Of course impeachment is partisan. Nixon's impeachment started as partisan as well. However, Republicans back then actually believed in the rule of law and love of country over party and opinions changed with the uncovering of evidence.

Same thing is happening now and we haven't even had public proceedings yet.

The only reason the Speaker is doing this inquiry is to keep her members from voting before all the facts are uncovered. In 1998, they didn't bother because they impeached on a bullshit charge over lying about marital infidelity. Trump's crimes are actual crimes and need more nuance to the inquiry. The Trump obstruction is not helping but will eventually hurt him as additional articles.

Stahl said she and her boss met with Trump at his office in Trump Tower in Manhattan after the 2016 election in advance of a recorded sit-down interview for “60 Minutes.

“At one point, he started to attack the press,” Stahl said. “There were no cameras in there.”

“I said, ‘You know, this is getting tired. Why are you doing it over and over? It’s boring and it’s time to end that. You know, you’ve won ... why do you keep hammering at this?’” Stahl recalled.

“And he said: ‘You know why I do it? I do it to discredit you all and demean you all so that when you write negative stories about me no one will believe you.’”
