State House Candidates' Forum in Wind Gap Tonight

What: Candidates' Forum for the 137th and 138th state house seats, sponsored by Northampton County League of Women Voters

When: Tonight, May 4, 7 p.m.

Where: Wind Gap Fire Company, 111 North Broadway, Wind Gap

137th State Legislative District candidates:

Democrats: Charles Dertinger, Frank Scagliotta

Republicans: Joe Emrick, Donald Albanese,

138th State Legislative District candidates in the special election to fill a vacancy until the November general election:

Democrat: Cory Miller

Republican: Marcia Hahn

(Democratic, Republican, and Independent voters may vote for either of these candidates in the special election).

138th State Legislative District candidates in primary race:

Republicans: Marcia Hahn & Nick Sabatine

Democrats: None

The 137th District is currently represented by Richard Grucela, who is not running for re-election. It includes the Boroughs of Bangor, East Bangor, Nazareth, Portland, Roseto, Stockertown and Tatamy, and the Townships of Forks, Lower Mount Bethel, Palmer, Upper Mount Bethel, Upper Nazareth and Washington.

The 138th District was represented by Craig Dally, who was elected a Northampton County Common Pleas judge in November 2009. It includes the Boroughs of Bath, Chapman, Pen Argyl and Wind Gap and the Townships of Bethlehem (wards 1 and 4), Bushkill, East Allen, Hanover, Lower Nazareth, Moore and Plainfield. Note: Cory Miller has withdrawn from the 138th primary ballot, which kinda' makes me wonder why he'd bother running in the special election.

Supposedly, the audience will be allowed to ask questions, but this is a LWV event, so don't hold your breath. Their web page announcement mistakenly lists Nick Sabatine as a candidate in the 137th. They also mistakenly claim that Marcia Hahn has no primary opponent in the 138th. That would be Nick Sabatine.

Directions to the Wind Gap Fire Co.: From the Wind Gap exit of Route 33, turn north onto Route 512 (Broadway) and go almost 1.2 miles north. The fire company is on the right, across from the post office and just past the intersection of the Turkey Hill traffic light.

  1. For "disinformation"? Is that a typo or a joke?

  2. Actually, I meant it. The LWV completely disinformed the public about these races, claiming Nick Sabatine is running in the 137th and that Marcia Hahn has no primary opponent.

  3. Marcia Hahn a no show? No real explanation and Sabatine jumped on her with both feet for blowing this event off. Dert had a bad mic spot as every time he was speaking the sound system imploded. He had some good points as well as Coach Scags. I think Emrick and Albanese are a little too far to the right at this time but who knows. No refreshments...BOO!

  4. Audience questions were put on cards and given to moderator. Quite a few were used and were timely and interesting. NH county council prez was there and many grey panthers. No violent outbursts occured and no arrests.

  5. That's pretty good for the slate belt! Thanks for your report, Dave. I was counting balls and strikes and did not get home until around 8:30 PM.
