At the time I wrote this story, unofficial results show what appears to be much larger than a blue wave. It's a blue tsunami! President Donald Trump asked voters to act as though he were on the ballot, and the votes tallied show an overwhelming rejection both of him and the direction in which he has taken the country. Republicans have refused to stand up to him and they are paying the price.
In Northampton County, all 155 precincts had reported in by 11 pm in a remarkably smooth election with a 53.1% turnout. I heard of remarkably few problems at the polls or with voters receiving the wrong ballots. The only unforced error was the poorly considered decision to close the elections office to the public on pre-election Friday. Other than that, things went quite well.
Lehigh County is reporting a 53.2% turnout, but that number is subject to change as more reports come in from their 158 precincts. In that county, there was a problem with scanning devices in one precinct, but I'm unaware of any widespread issues.
It was more than a good night for Democrats. It was very nearly a clean sweep. With the exception of Zach Mako and Ann Flood, Lehigh and NorCo tallies show Democrats have won all state house races. Incumbents Joe Emrick, Milou Mackenzie, Gary Day are losing. In the Senatorial races, Lisa Boscola and Nick Miller are clear winners, and Jarrett Coleman is losing.
WFMZ has projected Bob Brooks as the winner in the Pa.07 Congressional race with a 57% lead that exceeds polling expectations. Ryan Mackenzie will go down as a one-term wonder.
According to The New York Times, Democrats took control of the Senate and are on pace to win a large majority in the House. The President said he would accept the results. Trump campaigned on the economy and appears to have received a stinging rebuke. Voters went to the polls on a day with the highest ever gasoline prices on an election day.

ReplyDeleteEveryone saw this coming, but what disappoints me most is that the candidates were such duds. Brooks, a man with more baggage than an Samsonite, and Warren, a DUI loser and political opportunist, not worthy of their positions. Both should be writing the orange nightmare a thank you note. Trump ruined the republican party for decades to come and it is a sad, sad thing that the Tumpettes don’t realize it.

Decency was on the ballot last night, and decency won. No longer do we want representatives who take instead of give, bow down to Trump and his whims, and lay the groundwork for division instead of working together. Emrick, Mackenzie (x2), enjoy the unemployment line.

ReplyDeleteThe official "County of Northampton" Facebook page should not be "liking" Facebook posts of news articles (WFMZ, Morning Call) on positive stories about the winners. It's not the same as a pre-election endorsement but it does show flagrant bias. Were county employees using county resources or county clock time to encourage the Blue vote? Given who the executive is and her perpetual campaigning, I wouldn't be surprised.

ReplyDeleteI agree that Dems need to avoid making the same mistake Trump and Rs did. This is not a mandate for the Dem message, whatever it is, but is a rejection of GOP extremism. The biggest mistake would be to impeach Trump 14 times instead of adopting legislation that helps people.

Let the subpoenas and impeachments fly! Block insider trading. Reverse everything DOGE did to save the county billions (it actually costs the country more to function than it did before and we didn't get our DOGE checks *surprise*). Defund ICE completely. The countries economy has been historically better under democrats. Every.... single.... time.... If you can find a year where the plebs make out better under republicans let me know. Trickle down economics was the downfall of the middle and even lower class. That was started by republicans. Companies have "record profits" every year. What is minimum wage? Hasnt increased in almost 20 years. AND we didnt have space daddy making laws. Im spiritual but when I hear them make laws based on religion it makes my skin crawl. Im waiting for my tariff check, doge check and I guess im going to miss out on my $5000 election cheating check.

When the "leader" of your party provides aid and comfort to a historical enemy, angers and rejects long term allies, gets into armed conflict after promising not to, and displays zero respect to half the country there is usually a price to pay. Add on nonsensical tariffs, Epstien File coverups, blatant corruption/money grabs for his own benefit and being surrounded by unserious/incompetent staff and cabinet members, who's only qualification is brown nosing, this Blue Wave/Tsunami should surprise absolutely nobody.
