Northampton County approved a number of livable landscape grants and have awarded a contract for a new parking deck at the courthouse campus, but those stories will have to wait until tomorrow.
On Saturday evening, US B-2 stealth bombers launched precision strikes at three Irani nuclear sites, including the underground site at Fordow. Not only was this attack justified, but it was in the interest of our own national security. six American warplanes dropped 12 30,000-lb GBU-57 massive ordnance penetrator (MOP) bunker-busting bombs on Fordow
According to the Institute for the Study of War, satellite imagery of Fordow from June 22 shows six probable entry-point craters on top of a ridge above the underground complex that houses two halls of at least 2000 centrifuges. These were producing nearly enough highly enriched uranium to fuel one nuclear weapon per month. Initial Israeli assessments indicate that US strikes did not destroy but inflicted serious damage. Iran may have moved materials and equipment from the site ahead of the strike. A senior US official similarly said that the US strikes did not destroy but severely damaged the Fordow nuclear site and took it “off the table.”
Was it the right thing to do? Opinion is divided in both parties.
House Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that Trump acted unconstitutionally and has given the House grounds for yet another impeachment. But the attack was praised by Democratic Senators John Fetterman and Josh Gottheimer.
Republican congressional leadership lined up behind Trump. But there are voices in the isolationist MAGA movement, like Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Greene Taylor, who condemn our involvement in yet another foreign war.
I believe this strike was an absolute necessity and in our own national security interests. Iran's raison d'etre since 1979 has been to promote a Shia version of an Islamic revolution, including state-sponsored terror by the 3 Hs - Houtis, Hamas and Hezbollah. It has been a driving force behind international instability.
British journalist Matthew Syed, whose father was a Pakistani immigrant, makes the case at Triggernometry. Here are some excerpts.
"The doctrine of mutually assured destruction is what prevents people with nuclear bombs from initiating the first strike, because they worry that in the counter stripe they will be eliminated. So it's a very strong doctrine that even though there are nuclear weapons in the world, we have not yet, thankfully, be subject to a nuclear holocaust."
But Iran, unlike most countries, has no interest in the mutually assured destruction doctrine because they are religious fanatics.
Trump is a true leader not a politician
ReplyDeleteHe acted unilaterally and communicated only with GOPMAGA leaders in the war room. He had no post bombing plan set in the event Iran decided to use its terrorist cells against U.S. bases near Ziran (27) and has now placed all Americans at risk….some leader….some idiot
DeleteHow do you know so much? You don't know the plan!@
Delete3:19 - US Military observers are now warning the real danger to Americans could be Iranian terrorist cells in formation right here in THIS nation. It is believed during Biden’s (Obama) open borders policy 179,000 Iranians were allowed to enter here unvetted. As we know, these and other ‘guests’ were then spread out all across this nation. President Trump didn’t cause this predicament, he inherited it. I’ll let Trump be Trump and respect his leadership, thank you.
DeleteToo bad Harris wasn't President.
ReplyDeleteA case study displaying what a lifetime of propaganda has the capability of accomplishing. You are completely brain washed with our governments talking points. I'm mostly terrified but a little impressed.
ReplyDeleteYes, the decision to attack Iran’s nuclear capability was the right decision for the Trump administration to make. I am pleased President Trump showed the kind of courage and leadership strength to make such a call. Our world is a safer place without having unnecessary nuclear capability in the hands of the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism.
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind, this step was NOT about killing the Iranian people. This was about taking out facilities used to harm others. It was a masterful, controlled operation of constraint by America.
By the way, there was nothing unconstitutional about this act. Even so, the Democrats will ride that claim right through to the next election. Best to just ignore.
Barbaric terrorism around the world against innocent people will not end unfortunately. But, this move by America will give nations who support such savagery some pause and reduce such incidents going forward.
Keep drinking the kool-aid, You know nothing about Iran, its religion, or its culture, only the propaganda that has effectively demonized Iran since 1979. The real problem with Iran was that it took control of its oil reserves for the US and Uk, and they have been trying to topple the government ever since. Just like they toppled the elected government in 1953, that was not a religious government. It was labeled a communist government, the label of the time.
ReplyDeleteThe reality is that the U.s. has attacked 8 middle east government in the last 15 years. The U.S. or the Uk still controls the oil of Iraq, Syria and Libya, and now hopefully Iran. No matter that ese enterprises have resulted in millions of deaths and destabilized much of the world. One can only assume that greed and keeping them destabilized is the real goal.
This is exactly what people were saying to justify the Iraq War. They were wrong then. You're wrong now.
ReplyDelete6:26 - So Iran doesn’t want to wipe Israel off the map? They don’t want to wipe out the Great Satan (the USA) as they’ve been saying for the last 50 years? They haven’t been funding the terrorism of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis? And Iran’s deeply-buried nuclear facilities are for peaceful purposes?
DeleteHow stupid are you?
The question shouldn’t be why we’re striking Iran, but why we took so long.
I opposed our intervention in Iraq bc I never believed that Hussein possessed WMDs, and even if he did, they did not threaten our own national security. This is much different. There is no dispute anywhere that Iran has been enriching uranium well beyond what is needed for peaceful purposes. It has stockpiled enough for 10 nukes and the facility at Fordow had reached the point where it was enriching enough for one nuke a month. And nukes present an international threat, unlike the chemical or biological weapons that Hussein was said to possess. Even a small exchange of 15-30 nukes would result in a nuclear winter over parts of the globe, and this would mean worldwide food shortages. And Iran, unlike rational states, is impervious to the MAD doctrine./ They have been state sponsors of terror since 1979. The religious fanatics in that regime do not place value on human life. They have neither sirens nor bomb shelters for the people they are supposed to protect. They have given us the three Hs - Hamas, Hezbollah and Houtis. All three are proxies that have engaged in terror. Iran itself routinely refers to the US as the "great Satan". The country has killed hundreds of American troops in Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. https://taskandpurpose.com/news/iran-attacks-us-military-iraq-syria-biden/
DeleteTulsi Gabbard testified in March that Iran was not building nuclear weapons, they had not resumed the program that was suspended over 20 years ago, and they were not close to a nuclear weapon. Israel bombs them. Trump says he wants regime change. And now all of a sudden they can make 10 nukes and crank them out every month...sure.
DeleteEnjoy the war you desperately want. History will laugh at you.
@ 6:26 AM. You are so delusional.
Delete10:23 You need help
DeleteSo ..... we had to do it to prevent the development of "weapons of mass destruction?" You dopes will never learn. Good grief. Such idiocy and naivete. How do we know there were nukes? How do we know there are no more? How do we know the attack was successful? Oh that's right. The Trump administration said so. Hegseth even invoked Jesus. It must be true. Lol.
ReplyDelete7:08 - Yes, the claims must be false because every country buries their legitimate nuclear facilities 300-feet underground.
DeleteThat is especially true for countries that have such a great need for and reliance on nuclear power, like oil-rich Iran.
You are the definition of the useful idiot.
No one knows the extent of the damage inflicted upon those nuke sites this soon after the strikes. General Cane admitted that in yesterday’s press conference. The damage assessment will take days, if not weeks. If not totally put out of commission for good, it should take several years to clean-up those sites and make them an active threat again. That’s good enough for me.
Delete7:08 AM - we know without any doubt there were nuclear materials being prepared and stored. Iran even admits that. Technically, Iran has no need for nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. It has oil sources and supplies sufficient for hundreds of years going forward.
you need help
DeleteSo the Israeli attacks should end right? Facilities were neutralized, end of story/killings! All those who bought the campaign promises of no more wars, what you have to say now?
ReplyDeleteIsrael has far more to worry about than nukes. That is our concern. But Iran possesses and uses missiles and drones to attack Israel directly or give to proxies who gladly do their dirty work. Israel should do everything it can to eliminate this threat. This is actually far more urgent than anything in Gaza.
Delete7:39 - Has Iran stopped firing missiles at Israel and renounced their support for terror groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and the the Houthis? Have they accepted Israel’s right to exist and given up on future attacks on the USA?
DeleteOf course not! So take your weak, b.s. arguments and shove them up your Iranhole.
I approve of the attack but it would have been better if Trump had kept his mouth shut and the strike stealth. With a forewarning they had the opportunity to move some things and be prepared.
ReplyDeleteAre you trying to balance out your negative Trump posts because the Trump Trolls are getting to you? Don't want to lose those high IQ readers now!
ReplyDelete8:00, One of the many reasons I opposed Trump's election was because of his isolationist foreign policy claims as a candidate. That might actually be the main reason. This is a sharp reversal of his previous statements, and I agree with it. There are currently three democracies under siege - Israel, Taiwan and Ukraine. In all three cases, our own national security is threatened. Though Israel is far more capable of defending itself, it is the world's most threatened and most hated democracy. China and Russia, the aggressors in Taiwan and Ukraine, are at least rational. They understand the consequences of nuclear war. Iran is a regime of religious fanatics who wish to export their ugly and hateful brand of Islam to the rest of the world. To the extent that their ambitions threaten our own security, they need to be stopped.
DeleteYou're wrong. His Foreign Policy is pragmatic not isolationist- he doesn't want US mired in endless Wars that only serve the Military Industrial Complex.
DeleteThe mission itself was quite impressive; too bad some Americans are rooting for our military to fail in the their mission because of whom the President is. B-2 Bombers take off from Missouri for a weekend road trip to Iran, supported by over 100 planes and the two carrier strike groups in the region. Iran never made a move and didn't fire a single missile or put a single fighter in the air. While we do not know the actual damage done yet (obviously Iran will downplay it), it appears that this mission was successful in two ways: 1) the targets were indeed hit and 2) the US reminded the world of her military might and that she can conduct military operations at-will globally. This plan was a lot more involved and complicated than a carrier strike group launching jets and firing missiles from far away. The generals planned a textbook mission and the men and women of the US armed forces did their jobs and did them well. Great work!
ReplyDelete10,000 thumbs up
DeleteObama dropped over 26,000 bombs in one calendar year (2016).
ReplyDeleteNo bitching back then, right?
And he deported over 3M people- no bitching back then either.
DeleteCan anybody give me a number of bombs Obama dropped during his presidency with no approval from congress? Also, was he impeached for it?
ReplyDeleteObama, fresh from picking up a Nobel Peace Prize, droned an American citizen while he was dropping over 20,000 missiles. Granted, the American citizen was a piece of shit who had it coming. But it's food for thought as Trump attempts to deport non-citizens who have committed crimes - and Democrats fight him like he's Lincoln about to sign the Emancipation Proclamation, or Grant forcing southern Democrats to accept Reconstruction.
DeleteI was in the military of our Country for four years. I was very fortunate that I didn't have to kill anyone and was also very fortunate to see a great deal of the mid-east and Mediterranean area. What Bernie is printing here is factual and although I don't agree with him on everything he prints, he is right on with his observations and assessment of the Arab Nations. If you are not part of their religious "fanatical cults" you are considered an infidel and will never be accepted as a deserving person to enter the kingdom of our Lord. I despise Donald Trump and everything he stands for. Unfortunately I have to agree with him on this issue. Iran will be the first Country to use atomic weapons and the removal of this threat should be a priority for the rest of the world. From here into the future, he should include the NATO Nations in these decisions.
ReplyDeleteHate to quibble, but the title of "first country to use atomic weapons" goes to ... U S A
DeleteWas this the right thing to do? I’m not sure, but no one could say Hegseth wasn’t prepared. His hair and makeup was perfect and he’s figured out just how much of the red white and blue pocket square should be showing. Good job, Hegseth. Did we start world war 3? Maybe, but you look marvelous. Trump had to leave G7 early because he knows what makes good tv.
ReplyDeleteAnd he has bigger balls than you do
DeletePetey is a pretty boy in the best Fox News tradition and he is well complimented by JD's smokey eyed look. Lil Marco however had the thousand yard stare as if he has just seen the devil in the possible unintended consequences of this move. It's too late to debate the rights and wrongs of doing this now because it already has been done. For the sake of our nation and the world as a whole let's just hope they got it right enough to actually block the Iranian's nuclear ambitions for the foreseeable future.
DeleteThere are plenty of reasons Trump should be impeached especially over the emoluments clause but this isn’t one of them
ReplyDeleteI agree. He’s turned the Republican Party into his family’s money making machine. He’s ruined the careers of a generation of real Republican leadership. His newly elected Republican Congress just toady up to him to the point where there is little need for a congress anymore. Our district is a great example of that.
DeleteIts so refreshing to have a real leader back in the White House
ReplyDeleteAgree. Almost 50 years of Iran spreading terror with their religious fanaticism. They cannot be allowed to get a nuke. It was a tough call but I think Trump did the right thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of our Country and especially our Military after the strikes on Iran. After 50 years of appeasement, we finally have an Administration that isn't taking it anymore!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the Biden administration let in millions of people with his open border so now we have to worry about the sleeper cells.
ReplyDeleteFetterman is what a senator should be. Willing to cross the aisle and tell the truth regardless of the consequences.
ReplyDeleteThe real message to the world is, If you don't have nuclear weapons, you are subject to attack. Why has Iran buried their nuclear facilities? Because Israel has bombed them many times in the past. Iran agreed to limit their enrichment under supervision, in exchange for normalization of relations, This was Trumps first agreement, when they accepted, he raised the anti to no nuclear energy, no defensive or offensive missiles, in effect, disarmament. The goal never was about weapons.
ReplyDeleteThere probably won't be domestic retaliatory attacks sponsored by Iran. It's unlikely that any of the 20 million Biden illegals were terrorist Iranians. We all know they were scientists and doctors and engineers. It's all good on the home front.
ReplyDeleteI remember after 9/11 I entered a store whom employee family was from Iran. He spoke at length about his feelings of appreciation to be in America. He also spoke of his family still in Iran and how brain washed they were. It was an incredible conversation and one I will never forget. They are a threat to everyone and I for one as VP pence said am proud of president Trump and our military for lessening the threat. There is evil in this world that cannot be reasoned with. Thanks Bernie for the post
ReplyDeleteA rare occasion where you and I agree, Bernie. A swipe at Trump, Pete, General Caine, the brave pilots and anyone else involved in this military operation is not only sad, it is unbelievable and truly a sign of people who listen to and watch too much communist media in this country (yes, that’s what it is). It’s those who Biden’s administration allowed in illegally over the last four years that should concern everyone. Still think Joe was running the country? Doubtful! Time to unite, people.
ReplyDeleteTrump more than likely made a deal with Iran and told him this is how it will go. We bomb some targets to appease Israel and take our Their targets no major causalities for Iran. War done. Win win for all. Trump the great deal maker does it again
ReplyDeleteWhen will some of you ever realize Donald Trump will NOT be our next president?
ReplyDeleteLike him, or not, Trump has done many things to strengthen America and the futures of our citizens. Trump was CLEARLY the best candidate available in 2024, and it wasn’t even close. So, thankfully, he won.
Over 200 US Marines killed in Beirut by Hezbollah, a terrorist group and operation funded by Iran.
ReplyDeleteIran executes about 1000 of its own people every year for being gay, drug addicted, improperly covered in public, etc.
The tissue boxes in my house remain dry. I shed no tears for Iran.
Reducing the suffering of millions of innocent Iranians to a “no tears shed” attitude ignores the difference between a government’s actions and its people. Many Iranians risk their lives protesting for freedom and change. Dismissing their humanity because of geopolitical conflict is not only unfair, it’s inhumane.
DeleteHere is a question. Who gave Iran the money so they could build these facilities?
ReplyDeleteBeginning around noon today, various news agencies report Iran has fired missiles at US air bases in Qatar and Iraq in retaliation to America. I’d call this a foolish mistake by Iran.
ReplyDeleteSo easy to start a war. The hard part is ending it. Trump did it on feeling. He is a true half-wit. How many trillions to the debt will this add for your children to pay the price. So get all your bragging in now.
ReplyDeleteNormally I would agree that he can be impulsive and shoot from the hip. However, this operation was one of the most well thought operations in our military’s history. This decision was made over time. His cabinet was split on it. His VP was against it. I’m not a big Trumper , but I must say he’s leading here. He listened to all sides and made a decision. It was a tough call and a unique opportunity that presented itself so he went for it.
DeleteThese Democrats calling for impeachment LOL. Obama bombed and drones a lot of places. It was ok then I guess. Stop being so political!
ReplyDeleteBullshit …Obama had Congressional approval and commitment from both sides of the aisle….this one man tough guy decision has not only not finished Iranian nuclear production, as was stated, it has only delayed and opened doors for Putin, North Korea to reach out to Iran and side up. This one decision opened up our bases in near Iran for attack, Americans traveling overseas, and ignited potential use of sleeper terrorist cells around the world. Our America has now become a target for all the Iranian hate, so thank you mr trump.
DeleteThe oil markets are down 5 %. Stock market is actually up today. The market yawned at this interesting
ReplyDeleteTrump re-established deterence- Peace through strength. Market is up 300 points- tells you everything you need to know!
ReplyDeleteAfter President Jello Obama and Sleepy Biden, Trump is a refreshing change. BTW, Clinton had the opportunity to hit N. Korea in the 90's and chickened out- they now have a stockpile of 50+ Nuclear weapons.
ReplyDeleteActions speak louder than words: the Market is up 300 and Oil is down- I've never seen a Market reaction like this in my lifetime during a War in the Middle East.
ReplyDeleteThe World is a much safer place than it was a week ago!
ReplyDelete
