Who Will Replace Judge Anthony Beltrami on NorCo's Bench? Part 2

Yesterday, I identified potential candidates to succeed Judge Anthony Beltrami, who is rumored to be stepping down at the end of his term next year. Since that time, I've heard that some of the people I mentioned have no desire to run, while others I failed to mention are considering that black robe.

I'm told that Magisterial District Judge Sandra McClure, Bethlehem attorney Vic Scomillio and Easton lawyer Nancy Aaroe have ruled out a race at this time. Also, I need to clarify that Lisa Tresslar is entirely my own suggestion. She has told me several times, to my chagrin, that she has no desire to sit on the bench.

One of the new names I've heard is Joe Kelly, an aide to State Senator Lisa Boscola. I won't hold my breath. I hear his name every time an office pops up, and he never runs.

Then there's Magisterial District Judges Alan Mege and Rick Yetter. I think Mege should consider his parental duties first. He was parking in a spot reserved for expectant mothers, so I assume he must have recently given birth. And as for Yetter, I'm still trying to figure out how he ever passed the bar exam.

One promising name I've heard is Rory Driscole, a prominent and highly regarded criminal defense lawyer.

  1. Rory is a little young for a lifetime appointment. Maybe in another 10 or 15 years

    2. Barron would need to pass the bar exam, which has been difficult for him.

  3. I hope Tresslar reconsiders!

  4. Poor BO, not really good at picking winners

  5. How about Mark Minnotti

  6. Kelly practiced for years before his gig with the City and the Senator

  7. Actually, it does make some personal financial sense for Kelly. As an aide to Senator Boscola, he is on the state payroll as are the Courts of Common Pleas judges. He could add 10+ years to his current state pension at a salary in excess of 200K.

  8. 7:55 am: I thought the same about Brian Panella, but the majority of voters felt otherwise. Driscoll and Eyer would not get my vote because neither has impressed me when I have seen them in action. How about Baratta? I imagine he is getting a bit tired of the daily grind of being a bully in the DAs office.

  9. Eyer is the only logical choice here. Anyone who actually works in the Northampton legal profession or at the courthouse knows this. We do not need anymore politicians on the bench.

  12. Bernie, you really need to learn to apply the word “prominent” much better.

  13. Mark Minotti would be an excellent choice. Well liked amongst his peers, dresses the part, professional, articulate, outstanding knowledge of the law. The drawback as I see it, when one takes a position as judge their earning potential drops off, as they can no longer practice privately. Am I correct BO.

  14. Joe Kelly would be a fantastic addition to the bench and should win if he throws his hat in the ring. The rest of these names being bandied about come up very SHORT in the character and fitness department. Just laughable speculation from obviously clueless outsiders.

  15. Just laughable how SHORT sited your comment can be! So SHORT sited when one can comment anonymously! Laughable actually!

  16. I find your comment very SHORT sited! Especially under the guise of anonymity! Especially from a supposed “insider!” Laughable actually!

  17. Bill Blake should get the nod. Been a prosecutor for years across multiple administrations, does the job well, fair and reasonable, not a showboat hack
