Easton School Director to Seek Southside Seat on Easton City Council

Susan Hartranft-Bittinger, an Easton Area School Director since December 2017, has decided to run for Easton City Council southside regional seat currently held by Taiba Sultana.

Bittinger's second term as a school director ends at the end of next year. She graduated from Easton Area High School and is a Certified Insurance Service Representative. She has been employed by HMK Insurance for over 21 years and is currently a senior claims administrator.

Sisan is a lifelong resident of the southside, and lives in the same home her parents bought over 60 years ago. She has two sons and three grandchildren. She states, "Southside Easton deserves to have a representative that will work for them with no other agenda than making our part of this City the best it has ever been. I am a Southside Girl born and raised and I am truly committed to my City."

It's unclear whether incumbent City Council member Taiba Sultana plans to seek re-election. In fact, it's unclear whether she still lives on Easton's southside.

Taiba is running for county council. McClure cannot fund ever person he wants on council. The Republicans have a slate.

Glad to see a sane candidate running for this position on Easton Council. Taiba Sultana brought little to the job except chaos and grievance. I'm sure Easton will be in a much better position with someone working on City issues and addressing the City concerns rather than international affairs.

Congratulations on your win! SHB will crush TS if the latter runs again. Crush.

"Easton deserves to have a representative that (sic) will work for them ..."

Things are "that." People are "who" or "whom." Those directing education should know the difference.

Pretty sure it's time for Sultana to move to Minnesota and join Ilhan Omar's staff...

6:49, You are correct. You got her. I'll take the occasional grammatical error over someone who has polarized Council members.

One Gal who doesn't pay her taxes, another who continuously raised them...I'll pass

Good one! LOL

But BO will probably not have as much fun with her vs TS

I generally don’t trust anyone with a hyphenated name. In this case I would make an exception lol. Anybody is better than Taiba and she seems like a nice lady.

Good riddance, next should be the Allentown Mayor, and half of County Council

As an Easton resident, this is a double edged sword. On the one hand, we will finally get rid of TS. On the other, it will be chaos for the next 6/7 months as Taiba does any and everything for attention. Oh well. At least TS will finally be gone!

Based on your comment we all can assume you do not understand how a school district budget works. Roughly 95% of the budget is REQUIRED to be budgeted such as employee costs, contractual agreements (CBA’s), healthcare costs, and other employee costs. Plus in that 95% are costs for resources needed for special education programs, etc. The other 5% is budgeted for things such as fuel costs (buses), vehicle maintenance, etc. None of us want to pay more taxes however, when there’s genuinely no room to cut enough to save taxes then they are forced to approve budgets that may raise the taxes.

Sultana is despicable, and proper grammar should be a minimum requirement for anyone directing kids' education. Both can be true. I recommend The Heath Handbook for anyone willing to brush up on our native language.

Don’t live in Easton, so I don’t have a dog in this hunt.

That said, how have EASD’s test scores been doing since Hartranft-Bittinger joined the school board?

I don’t know the answer to that question, but I’ve seen too many politicians fail upwards (Nick Miller, I’m looking at you).

Records of success - or failure - should count for something.

Bernie, If there's just one video you watch today, it's gotta be the first 2 1/2 minutes of the Lower Saucon Council Meeting last night. There's no words to describe it, but I'm sure you can find some... https://www.youtube.com/live/rnKzGEbi2a0?si=qD8ugxOJpxZsmEIw

Holy Shit! I don't know if words can describe that madness.

yeah Bernie, you should cover the nonsense going on down there, WTF is wrong with those two Jerking off horses in public?

Anonymous said...

Thank God. The Sultana Crime family is out of here

Perhaps those two morons will be nominated for a cabinet position in the new administration and have to resign their council seats?

Education is underfunded nationally the last election proved that and the incoming Czar will eliminate the department and reduce funding further.

@2:16pm, there's also a wild part of that meeting starting around 4:45 which, after a expletive-laden shouting match (including the solicitor being called a "white Bill Cosby") and a recess, culminates in one council member launching into a 75+ minute filibuster, reading nonstop out of some code book. Eventually the three ladies decide to just continue going through the rest of the agenda while he keeps reading out of the book. Crazy. Surprised these meetings don't get more news or blog coverage.

2:16 pm rocks! That show was better than anything on TV. I think I want to start going to those meetings. As for Ms. Hartranft-Bittinger, no thank you. EASD is a mess and the school board is a lazy bunch of people who don’t ask questions, don’t connect dots, and just do what their friends in administration request. Sultana may be a loon, but I’d actually take her over this candidate.

Bernie I just watched the vid of Lower Saucon. Who is the fuck bag in the black. Vest

To clarify, I meant at the 4 hour 45 minute mark, not 4 minutes 45 seconds...these LST meetings all go on for 6+ hours now unless the two male members don't show up.

Who are those chuckleheads on Lower Saucon council. I am so heading to the next meeting.

That buffoon is Jason Banonis. The loudmouth in the green who crackled paper while others were speaking is Tom Carocci. Both freaks are up for re-election next year and I can only hope Lower Saucon voters send these misogynistic morons packing. I don’t care for the council president, but she was right questioning why the police stood by when the old guy approached them and when Green Vest began his tirade. Disorderly conduct was evident. Just watching the debacle made me nervous. This display brought to you by the Trump Train that will derail this country.

Bernie, the Lower Saucon mtg was the greatest. I love those two guys. If the Northampton republican party is smart, they will run them for County Council next year. They would be great alternatives to Kraft and Keegan. The K&K show is just as obnoxious but do it against county council and for McClure. Those two guys woold not be afraid to call out all the bullshot shoveled by the McClure gang. Those two guys from LS would be a worthy match and balance the scales. If you do a post on it, I will post again. Bravo LS.

PA ranks #6 in per pupil spending, despite ranking just #26 in per capita income. PA spends well beyond its means for education. The Department of Education is a wasteful bureaucracy than spends 90 cents to administer $1 in funding. 40% of employees never go to work. When introduced by Carter in 1979, the US ranked 1st in education. We now rank 24. The Department of Education hurts kids and has killed the best education system in the world. It can't be eliminated soon enough for our children.

You have taken a macroeconomic view. PA per pupil spending is not equal by any measure. Wealthy districts spend over $20,000 per pupil while poor districts spend less than $5,000 per pupil. What would you rather government invest in than education?
