On-Demand Mail Ballots Increase Sharply in NorCo, Dems Losing Voters

People can vote three ways in Pa. You can request a mail-in ballot, vote at your precinct on election day or physically appear at the elections office, request your ballot and vote then and there. I call this early voting, but technically, your vote is not counted until 7 am on election day. Approximately 3,700 people have voted ballot on demand in NorCo as of Thursday, according to Executive Lamont McClure. I've been telling you about it the past two days. The Exec told County Council that the number of people voting at the courthouse is a significant increase over the "few dozen" who voted that way in the Presidential race four years ago. He said the county has managed to keep up with the demand with help from volunteers from other departments, including cabinet heads.

McClure also advised Council that there have been 57,996 requests for mail-in ballots (MIBs). Thus far, the elections office has sent out 57,664 ballots. Essentially, elections officials are getting them processed and sent almost immediately after they are received. So far, 38,438 MIBs have been returned. That's well below the number of ballots received four years ago. In the 2020 Presidential, the county received and counted 73,914 MIBs, most of which came from Democrats. Unless there's a sharp increase in requests over the next few days, that is a bad sign for Democrats, who tend to favor MIBs. The cut-off date for MIB requests is October 29.

McClure also said there are 234,379 registered voters in NorCo, of which 87,527 are Republicans (37%) and 99,182 are Democrats (42%). There were 227,371 registered voters four years ago, of which 45% were Democrats and 35.8% were Republicans.

Democrats are continuing a trend of losing registered voters while Republicans are gaining them.

  1. I fully concur with your statement “Dems losing voters.” If I may add, this statement is holding true not just in Northampton County, PA but in hundreds of Countys and other jurisdictions all across America. The surge away from this Democrat Party policies and behaviors is striking.

  2. I wonder if Democratic policies of the last number of years has anything to do with democrats losing voters

  3. Statewide more Dems and Repubs are switching to 'other' in voter registration . People are more and more annoyed by the hyper partisan politicians.

  4. Meanwhile the Northampton County Republicans are busy bringing court cases against each other and promoting pornography.

  5. "Democrats are losing registered voters, while Republicans are gaining...' huh?
Imagine that! Seems to go against the narrative, no?

  6. I'm not sure who the democrats represent anymore? The republican party has certainly shifted their position on labor and still represent the supply side folks. Who do the dems support other than students that made poor choices on over priced degrees and every court case filed to styme progress.

  7. Hopefully the newly registered Republicans will be anti-MAGA and lead the party back to sanity and the Democratic Party will find leadership to restore the party to the ideology of FDR and JFK so all this partisan hate caused by Trump can return our democracy to normalcy.

It is about whatever the Orange Goofball says it is.

  9. Well, one thing to keep in mind is, in 2020, many people voted by mail out of necessity, because they may not have felt safe going in person to the polls because of COVID. Now, with the pandemic mostly behind us, more people are probably willing to go vote in person.

  10. People are sick of the far left? What does that even mean?!
They are sick of women who want rights to their own bodies and equity with their health care?
They are sick of scientists who are trying to save the planet and Dems providing support to help climate change?
They are sick of Dems who want their children safe at school and support appropriate gun legislation?!
They are sick of Dems who don't support book bans?!
I thought republicans were about less government. But that's not the case, is it?!
Republicans want big government in our uterus', they want to tell us what books we can read, they want religion in schools, they don't want people to be able to love whoever they want to love, they want to control everything and everyone.
This dem is sick of fascists. I can't wait to see Kamala crush the Trumpster fire on Election Day.

    2. Ok. Republicans are sick of the last three years. We are sick of open borders. We are sick seeing children abused and killed. We are sick of seeing woman abused and killed by illegal immigrants. We are sick of the lies including that about abortion. We are sick of the trillions of dollars in debt. We are sick of food and gas prices. We are sick of home prices. And yes we believe children should not read certain books when they're in elementary school! We believe in the right to bear arms but acknowledge no one is helping the mental health crisis in our country. But criminals will get guns no matter what is done. We don't care who people love or what sex they want to be but don't make me call someone by their pronoun and don't expect me to pay for children and criminals sex change operations . We are sick of politicians who promise the world and don't deliver. Trump delivered. We are sick of calling someone fascist and a threat to democracy when in fact we are starting to believe the Democrats are the threat. We believe in the constitution and the supreme Court as it stands and how our forefathers laid out. We believe in our country and love our country

    4. Agreed that the shift of the republican party towards intrusive government is troubling. But the evangelical vote puts them over the top so they cater to that divisive crowd. Sad. Certainly not the republican party i belonged to my whole life. Count me as an “I” who only registers with a party to vote in primaries.

    5. Well now. Our Democratic county councilman Jeff Warren does not like posts that challenge his election choices. I simply retweeted opposing thoughts from others. He will call it “trolling” however his profile cites he is a public official and I am a constituent voicing my opinion. This is EXACTLY what censorship is all about. Remember that next time you vote.

  12. Kamala has raised over a billion dollars! Outspending Trump 3 to 1. The media has completely sold out for her, yet here we are and it’s a tie! Why? I watched the CNN town hall. She’s a horrible candidate. She can’t think on her feet. Word salad after word salad. She won’t answer a question! There are small town mayors more articulate than her. I can’t believe that she could lose to Trump. It’s crazy! Any other Republican candidate would be crushing her.

She’s a mediocre walking word salad. LA Times, Wash Post, South Florida Sentinel refuse to endorse. Teamsters refuse to endorse! Why? She’s awful! If she loses I’ll be pissed. I can’t stand Trump. 2. Well if you watched any of Trumps "Rally" at Madison Square Garden you can kinda sorta pick up on the Nazi/Facist vibe they're laying down. I know that hurts your feelings to read, but any objective person can see the underlying racism involved with MAGA, whether you are one or not. Also, insulting 5.6 million Puerto Ricans at your rally is probably not the soundest strategy when you need every vote you can get.

Similarly, there are no "deadbeat dads." These progressive men are simply pro-choice. Deadbeat women expect men to pay for their decisions. That's the opposite of pro-choice.

  26. "They are sick of Dems who don't support book bans?!"

No book is banned. They are being made unavailable where they're age-inappropriate. If you disagree, don't complain about adults who want to drink and do drugs and have sex and with your kids. Grown up things are for grown ups. Why is this so difficult to understand? Is it because you can't make and defend a point without breathless hyperbole? Or do you just hate the innocence of children and childhood?

    1. Well, let’s see what the definition of fascism is:

Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/ FASH-iz-əm) is a far-right, (MAGA) authoritarian, (TRUMP) and ultranationalist (‘MERICA) political ideology and movement,[1][2][3] characterized by a dictatorial leader, (TRUMP)centralized autocracy,( TRUMP WANTING TO LIMIT THE POWER OF FEDERAL AGENCIES LIKE THE FBI TO PREVENT PROSECUTION) militarism,( AWARD MILITARY CONTRACTS TO AMERICAN COMPANIES BECAUSE WAR MAKE OLIGARCHS RICHER) forcible suppression of opposition( ATTEMPT TO SILENCE MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES), belief in a natural social hierarchy(BASICALLY SERVE OLIGARCHS LIKE ELON MUSK), subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation or race,( WORK AS A SLAVE FOR CORPORATE GREED, ELECT ONLY WHITE POLITICIANS) and strong regimentation of society and the economy.( BASICALLY SUPPRESS ANYONE WHO SPEAKS AGAINST CORPORATE GREED AND PROMOTE CAPITALISM AT THE EXPENSE OF WORKER RIGHTS.

Sounds like fascism fits the bill…

The Teamsters won’t even endorse a Democrat. Philly firefighters just endorsed McCormick. People are waking up to the fact that the Dem party is now the party of the elites and the socialists. They have taken my vote for granted for the last 40 years. Enough!

  29. Fun with words, 9:36?

What matters to me when voting is what I see. What I have seen recently is a broken system of governance. I’ll pick the best choice to fix current problems quickly and courageously, no matter what others might name that individual. It’s why for the past decade I’m registered to vote as INDEPENDENT, having been both a registered Democrat and a registered Republican before.

Labels are applied at the surface level, even though what’s beneath, the essence of the tool, is really all that counts.

At this point in history, we need a reliable tool that has worked well for us in the past to improve our daily lives. Something we can count on from direct experience. No matter WHAT you choose to call it, I’ll reach down and choose the right tool for the task ahead as I see it, not as you see it.

I’ll be voting against Incumbents in office. They failed me. Why would I want more of their “help?” IT HASEN’T WORKED!

You can call Donald Trump (or me) any disgusting name you like. I just don’t care. TRUMP is the best in the ‘fix-it toolbox’ NOW. That’s my choice.

But thank you for voting. I hope your votes gets through and is counted accurately. We shouldn’t have to worry about that in America.

While I understand that a passport may seem daunting to some conservatives, I encourage you to take the opportunity to explore the world beyond Bangor. Experiencing different cultures can foster empathy and deepen your understanding of others' experiences outside your own.

This “tool” you reference in relation to our economy has only helped the rich get richer. Trickle down economics doesn’t work when for the last 40 years when 10 percent of our population, have 85 percent of the wealth in this country. Stop bootlicking to the oligarchs, and start advocating for the worker class. Because no matter how hard you try, you’ll never be a billionaire, so why argue in their defense?

  35. To anyone who actually watched the rally from Madison Square Garden. they can hardly say enthusiasm isn’t sky high for Trump. When I say ‘watched,’ I don’t mean just repeating negative talking points spewed this morning by our state-run media networks.

Yes, the comedian who opened the early afternoon event with a stupid wisecrack about Puerto Rico was disgusting and should apologize, but who could have seen that coming? Actually, I consider his low class joke shameful, but in reality, less shameful than having our current Vice President calling President Trump and his followers all Nazis. That, right there, is an act of extreme desperation by an individual who knows they are losing badly.

    3. How do you coorelate "enthusiasm" at one of his rallys (or even one of Kamala's) to actual voters? You can't. NYC is a big place with a lot of people, so getting people there wasn't going to be an issue. The people who attended, attended because they know what was going to be said and what the general atmosphere of it would be like. Trump is still going to get clobbered in Manhattan next week%

As for who could have seen what the comic said coming, that goes towards the people who surround Trump. They are incompetent idiots. Probably a good preview of what his administration will look like since he's burned thru anyone remotely qualified to help him run this country.

  36. I watched the rally and certainly didn't see what's being reported. People who were there said the environment was warm friendly patriotic.
