NorCo Dem Party Boss Survives Coup Attempt

Last month, I told you that NorCo Dem Exec Committee voted that it has no confidence on party chair Matt Munsey. It did so on the basis of the following: (1) Undercutting elected incumbents Sal Panto, Susan Wild and Bob Freeman . (He's been accused of circulating petitions for challengers and texting talking points during the Easton Mayoral debate); (2) Participating in a GOP effort to undermine public confidence in our voting system to a State Senate Committee whose real goal is to disenfranchise voters; (3) He refuses to conduct regular party meetings; and (4) He has ignored party bylaws requiring a separate treasurer; and (5) has denied party resources to area committees. But at a meeting on Tuesday night, Munsey survived an attempt to remove him as chair.

The same group that supported the vote of no confidence presented some grievances and wanted to remove Munsey as chair. By a vote of 26-6, the Executive Committee determined that the charges had not been sufficiently proven or investigated, and by a similar vote of 26-6, the Executive Committee voted to dismiss any further action with regards to the Chair until after the November election.

  1. This group that tried to remove him did a horrible job. They should be ashamed. If all charges against him are true, he needs to go.

  2. A vast oversimplification of the results of the meeting, but not wholly inaccurate. This is the difference between a blog and commentary vs journalism. Still, I am hear reading and do so every day and will continue to do so. There is much more to the story.

  4. Reading today's article in the Morning Call re the County voting office's dereliction of duty or due diligence to properly record voting machine tests, I am wondering why there is a protest agains Munsey about it. Turns out he was right to call it out.

    1. The real problem with Munsey was that he, and he alone, decided to join forces with the Republican chair and pen a letter without approval or discussion with his own people the executive board. No one knew he was going to do it, and this is not the only time he has acted on his own without considering his fellow committee members, he had decided to run a voting program , suggested by another state, without presenting it to the entire executive committee to discuss, he just went ahead and did it and when he realized he needed help from HiS people, only then did he explain and beg for help to get it going. He is not a good leader.

    2. Be careful. Last time you undertook a similar endeavor you ended up promoting a porn actress.

  6. Munsey has been a poor chairman . He should have been replaced. Majority of Democratic candidates win by avoiding his involvement.

  8. Perhaps the county party needs to brush up on campaign law such as the one that states that treasurer. and not the chair, signs PAC reports.

  9. …and he signed and did it for over 8 years… while many in his Dem group questioned his motives for not acting on getting a treasurer and then waiting for reports that never were completed until a good audit, completed in a few months, done by concerned Dems , was done FOR him.
    He has broken the law.

  10. The Easton Dems have lost many members because of frustration with Munsey’s lack of presence and communication, and the horribly long meetings held without regard for agenda, and disregard for following quorum requirements. Many votes taken without confirming quorum rule. Very sad.

  11. Let's be transparent here. This was an attempted coup by McClure puppets in the Party. Check out the ring leaders, they are all McClure actors. He has an insatiable hunger to control all Democrats in Northampton County. His support is not as widespread as his MAGA-lite supporters think it is. The plot failed. Munsey may be sleepy but at least he is not a puppet!

    1. McClure had no input. Stop making shit up. This was created by a group alright, the small inside group that Muncy has used behind the scenes to move his agenda, not the committee . Ask how Muncy quickly elected, on his own, people who would go to bat for him , at his meeting, only when he knew he was in trouble.. There are 5 people all close to Muncy who are lying and misconstruing information. These followers have allowed rules and laws like having a quorum to be ignored, and they are not recording as they should .
Because of the inefficiency and lack of showing up on time , if at all ,by Muncy and his head chair , many have chosen not to participate. Muncy’s job and his chair is to build the organization, instead they have splintered it into and created small , special groups that do not share
Communication and falsify information the those present. I’m ashamed of the entire fiasco.

    2. Your nuts. The coup was led by the vice chair.

    3. Sorry Muncy,, you know you had years of complacency of not following rules, and the downfall was all on you, not created by one person in your party, but many who
Became frustrated with your lack of leadership and energy. You and your ill equipped chair person , and years of treasurer vacancies, lack of oversight with little or no accountability are haunting you now,

    1. Like lower drug prices, infrastructure projects, social security, Medicare, Medicaid, and respectful dialogue. Corporate greed is what’s hurting the country and followers of Trump.
