I am nominating Dave Powell, Sr., age 65. Dave, a 1976 graduate of Nazareth Area High School, was a demolition and enduro race car driver on local race courses. More importantly, he has been a volunteer firefighter and fire-police officer for the past 42 years in both Nazareth and Upper Nazareth. He still responds to numerous calls of accidents and fires, and at all hours. We've seen a 17% drop in volunteer firefighters since 1984, and should recognize and cherish those who remain because they are true life savers.

I strongly endorse this nomination.
Great nomination!
White Privilege
It boggles my mind why anyone would want to be a volunteer firefighter.
Because somehow, officials have convinced ordinary people to risk their lives battling raging neighborhood fires, all the the sake of fulfilling some mythical civic duty.
It’s ridiculous and dangerous.
And miss me with the excuse that townships can’t afford to pay to pay these fireman, blah, blah, blah. Yes they can, and they should.
Agreed about pay
Great nomination. God bless the fire and police.
I wholeheartedly agree with this nomination.
Who are you kidding? We have many townships that won't even hire a police force, or join with a neighboring municipality to hire one. Shining example: Lower Macungie, populous and wealthy enough to be a small city, yet still sponging off the state police.
Thank you for 42 years of public service Mr. Powell. Some have suggested County-wide police and fire is the best way to manage emergency services.
Someone asked if this person is a neighbor of mine. He is. That's how I got to know him.
Proves the point!! They have the money but rather pay for State Police coverage which is cheaper.
