After the tragedy in Texas yesterday, in which a lone gunman killed 19 children at an elementary school, it's really time to stop the partisan bickering and make some changes. Trying to implement gun control on any level is a nonstarter. There's too much opposition. But for the past few years, we've gridlocked over any suggestions. It's very clear to me that we really need to step up our oversight of firearms in the possession of mentally ill people who express violent thoughts. I'd suggest some sort of temporary seizure based on complaints of threatening behavior.
Last night, readers were weighing in on a post on another topic, so I thought I'd set this space aside to hear suggestions from second amendment enthusiasts.
First, bring God back into all the places the government has told us he has not been allowed. Which if you haven’t gathered, one being school.
ReplyDeleteSecond, allow constitutional carry of a firearm to be everywhere. Notice that all targets are soft targets. These shootings aren’t in places where guns are readily available. They are in places where guns have been restricted. Coincidence, I think not.
Third, bring morality back to the country. Government has been legislating morality out of populous. The family construct and the general common sense of right and wrong has been stripped from our society. We don’t have a gun issue. WE HAVE A MORALITY ISSUE.
Religion is not the answer, wars throughout time were started in the name of god, this nation was founded as a religious nation, in fact the founding fathers were clear about keeping religion out of government, Human life is sadly devalued and guns are just to easy to get, especially in Texas,,, all those guns and still a mass shootiing….morality does not come from the Bible but from the heart, up bringing, family, and the love for each other…. Doesn’t help that the mental health treatment in this country is pathetic….
DeleteThis 100%
DeleteBackground checks need to include mental health. "Have you, or anyone in your household been prescribed mental health medication, including the following: [ ]." Specific medications that are used for treatment of certain conditions would be listed.
ReplyDeleteI may be wrong, but as more information is discovered about this latest nut's evil rampage in Texas, it won't surprise me to find out people knew he had mental health issues and violent tendencies. A normal person doesn't just wake up one day and decide to go on a killing spree that targets children at a school.
Most effective is school security, that can be done without legislation or controversy. then it is really a social issue, violence is the game in video games, movies and when we disdain any mention of a higher power, we remove the hope of the depressed and mentally ill.
ReplyDeleteAny suggestion that we look at our social values will be as controversial as gun legislation.
How do we stop madness? I don’t know. I wasn’t raised by parents who had guns, as neither grew up around guns. In fact, the only time my dad had a weapon was during WWII. I was, however, raised by parents who taught me respect, discipline, and lived within their means. I had TWO parents who were involved in my life and taught me coping skills so when I was bullied, I could walk away. (Yes, walk away — not buy a gun and shoot people.) I was taught accountability, so when I did rebel (for a short period) I was made responsible for my actions. How do we stop these shootings? As a society, we stop dancing around the conversation and start demanding more, rather than, less of parents. You choose to bring children into the world, so get a clue and do the job. Put down your phone, tablet, bong, whatever, and be a respectful and responsible member of society.
ReplyDeleteWell said. But we also need to include a better system of mental health caregiver for those with true mental issues
Deletelets ask a simple question what do we have to do to stop the fucing beth school district from raising taxes, just to turn around a give teachers and themselves raises...they make more in 6 month than the average beth resident that has a full time job ...this is pure and simple bullshit and it is time to do something about it!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteScapegoating those who have done nothing wrong, who own similar firearms as those who commit this crimes, is not the place to start. A 40 year old plumber in Nebraska who owns an AR15 should not be drawing ire or blame for these tragedies. And yet the collective finger pointing is immediately leveled against those who have done nothing wrong.
ReplyDeleteI would direct the readers here to review the strict gun laws in New York State, including magazine count restrictions. New York has attempted to quell its rising gun violence with more restrictions for years to no effect, as evidenced by the daily carnage in NYC, and most recently in Buffalo.
Californias restrictions have not impacted gun violence in its big cities. Same in New Jersey.
In terms of a solution….that’s the tough part. We are an increasingly immoral and violence prone society, quicker to anger, quicker to violence, and less impeded by consequence.
I own the types of firearms dominating the news recently. Responsibly. I am no more a part of this problem than people who own no firearms.
Having said that I am for:
The raising of a minimum age to purchase assault style rifles.
Increased penalties for those in possession of illegal firearms.
Mandatory sentencing for those who commit crimes with firearms.
No plea bargaining for these offenses.
These are some suggestions to get the conversation started. I know other ideas will take us in another direction.
Perhaps the best post I have ever read on this blog. Thank you. May I respectfully add mental health care and treatment as priority
DeleteThe country is filled with gun zealots who politicize 2a Rights and cloud even the most commonsense gun laws. Look no further than the politicians who try to win these zealots over with their tacky and sometimes deplorable gun commercials. In light of what just happen in Texas, it is hard to imagine the thought process of the individuals that encouraged a their members to show up at a press conference with students and families on school grounds who simply wanted to be heard. What the hell were you thinking?
ReplyDeleteMass shootings or mass killings? The end result is the same. As for shootings, yes guns are far more plentiful. But, guns will ALWAYS be with us. They can be a DEFENSIVE WEAPON, too, and also save lives. The real threat is not so much the weapon itself, but the instability of the person using it.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest making the use of a gun, including just brandishing one, during the attempt of a crime, an offense with far greater penalty attached. This would apply even to seemingly minor crimes. No exceptions/appeals. This is particularly necessary with crimes attempted by youth. From early age, youth need to absolutely fear the consequences of using a gun for law breaking offenses. Make them want NO part of using one. The lesson might stick into adulthood.
Mass killings, however, will NEVER be stopped. It’s a mental flaw that can flare-up any time. If not a gun, the same heinous results can result from knives, explosives, lethal chemicals and gasses.
With thoughts and prayers, over and over. I mean Rome wasn't built in a day either.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, I predict that all the gun nuts (enthusiasts) will post something to the effect, "We don't need any more laws, we just need to enforce the laws already on the books". Then, they will suggest that teachers should be armed. And, then they'll bash Biden, Pelosi, AOC and others for the destruction of America with their radical, liberal agenda.
They'll also throw in a few "guns don't kill people, people do" for good measure and suggest that they go back to Church and become "pro-life". Because again, these liberals don't have any sanctity for life, as evidenced by our wish for abortion on demand, up to and including the first 2 years after birth.
I'm pro 2nd amendment, but I really don't see the fixation with the rifles quite frankly. Biden wants a rifle ban, well, if you have a wide open border that's not going to solve a whole bunch. Fentanyl is illegal, and we had 110,000 drug overdoses last year. That's almost 6 times the amount of people dying from drug overdoses as those from gun violence, which was about 21,000, excluding suicides. I wouldn't lose any sleep if they banned rifles tomorrow, but I don't think it will make a big difference. These horrific mass shootings aside, way more people are killed with handguns in this country.
ReplyDeleteThe other thing is this business that we can get concealed carry permits without undergoing any firearms training. As someone with advanced firearm and tactical training, this just strikes me as crazy! We also see that the people committing these acts, there were plenty of red flags yet nobody did anything. Not sure how you solve that either, but we have to do better.
Maybe not having FBI agents investigating fake pee pee tapes or fake Russian collusion they would have more time to look into mentally ill people and their threatening posts. But who am I to jump ahead of surely your next blog post of what Hillary Clinton "approved". Robby Mook's words not mine. I will wait for your story about the fake hoax. Left wing receipt below.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.cnn.com/2022/05/20/politics/hillary-clinton-robby-mook-fbi/index.html
Government approved method of fixing this dilemma:
ReplyDelete1. Politicize the shit out of it.
2. Blame the NRA.
3. Blame the gun manufacturers.
4. Blame Donald J. Trump.
Carry on as usual.
Eliminate the "gun free" zones that create soft targets. It takes a good person with a gun to stop a bad person with a gun. Read the book More Guns Less Crime for your answer.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the idea that mentally unfit people should be prevented from buying guns. But that will not prevent them from obtaining a gun if they truly want to have a gun. Where there is a will there is a way. Disarming people en masse through legislation only creates artificial killing zones for those intent on causing harm.
There are some small things that can be done to make gun ownership more responsible but none of it means anything unless we change the CONSTITUTION and quite simply.....THAT ISN"T GOING TO HAPPEN. To change the Constitution as you know Bernie, is a major undertaking that opens the door for every wingnut in the congress and in the Country to put their two cents into pushing their pet peeve to legislate everything from voting regulations to basic freedoms, etc.
ReplyDeleteI own about 25 guns. I don't use at least 20 of them. Yes, I hunt, and I eat everything that I take with a gun. I also hunt with a bow and arrows and eat only what I take with that weapon. Can you legislate "no weapons of mass destruction"? I am a very high member in standing with the NRA but do not donate any longer because I don't believe that military style weapons have a place in private ownership for hunting or recreation.
Stronger background checks will help but not much. What is the answer? You drive down the street and more than 50% of the drivers coming toward you are carrying a concealed weapon, either in their car or on their person. You can open carry without a permit. Gun laws are too lax, yet the constitution mandates our rights.
I am not asking for opinions from gun control advocates. I want to hear from second amendment enthusiasts only.
ReplyDeleteI'd need more details on what you're proposing as far as a "temporary seizure" since I think there are already laws that allow for what you're proposing that also guarantee due process.
ReplyDeleteBut I think the larger issue is that there almost always seem to be signs of what's coming, and often social media posts by the shooter themselves.
I wouldn't necessarily advocate for more monitoring by social media companies, but I think it needs to be stressed to people that if they receive or see posts threatening mass violence, they should report it immediately.
Early reports (which can often be wrong) indicate that the shooter in Texas was sending disturbing posts to at least one person as far back as May 12th. Apparently, the person receiving the posts didn't know the shooter.
I have no idea if that person reported the posts to law enforcement for follow-up, or if the posts were even specific enough to warrant action if they had been reported. Still, I think such posts can't be ignored, and people need to take such posts seriously if they see them.
Many don't want to get involved, and others might not know whether something they see is important enough to report. But maybe a national push by those in local law enforcement could offer advice on what help they need or what would reach the level that it should be reported.
To that end, would a new nation-wide tip line (like 911) specifically dedicated to preventing mass shootings help? I don't know, but I'd like to see it discussed.
I like it. We all should report but I like a tip line. And I like the post that FBI should do this and not all these politically driven crap
DeleteAs a retired law enforcement officer, I carried the type of rifle used in this incident, as well as used to end this incident. My department allowed officers to purchase and carry their own rifles as long as they were the same as the rifles maintained by the department.
ReplyDeleteI still own that rifle into retirement. I feel that I should be allowed to own and possess the same firearms to protect my own family, that I carried to protect everyone else’s.
I live in an area where a responding officer is often 20 minutes away. I am my own responding agency.
Does this make me a “gun nut”, or a reasoned, responsible gun owner?
I have my own opinion, and vote accordingly to protect my ownership status, for reasons outlined above.
8:17 You’re deflecting and a fuckin jackass. Your comment makes you look stupid.

I am asking second amendment enthusiasts for suggestions, not the usual vilification of everyone who is not in lock step with your thinking. Thank you.
@ 8:57 agree with you. I own firearms. I equate the firearms discussion to the abortion discussion. There is universal opposition to any restrictions from supporters of both abortion and firearms because people feel like you get "the foot in the door" and then all rights will eventually be taken. Majorities agree on some restrictions on both abortion and firearms. Of course, now we will see states ban all abortions given the pending supreme court decision, which again, majorities feel there should be access, just some restrictions. Same with the guns, if 2nd amendment is modified, then the blue states will move immediately to ban all firearms. That's not a majority opinion is this country either.
ReplyDeleteThen you have these guys that cry about my constitutional right to own a bazooka. There are limits to rights given in the constitution. You can't yell fire in a crowded theater is the most cited example. I have a liberal friend who loves to cite Australia, LOL, we're not Australia. The right to firearms is codified in our founding docs, and like it was said above, unlike Australia, our border is wide open.
Gun control hasn't worked. States with the strictest gun control laws still have high numbers of gun violence. Have you noticed that most mass shootings have been carried out by teens or young adults. Rarely do we see a middle aged or older person carry out a mass shooting. Why? Video games. When you grow up playing violent video games you become desentized to violence. Its not real. Its not real in a young mind. As far as the second amendement is concerned, all strict constructionists must agree that the only legal weapons should be flintlocks qand muskets.
ReplyDelete"I'd need more details on what you're proposing as far as a "temporary seizure" since I think there are already laws that allow for what you're proposing that also guarantee due process."
ReplyDeleteI am interested in your solutions, not mine. I am no 2a enthusiast, but am trying to find a middle ground. There are no laws in Pa that authorize temporary seizure of guns except for PFAs or as conditions of bail. These are known as red flag laws that do exist in some states.
There has to be a barrier to entry. I'm required to have a physical to maintain my pilot certification on an annual basis. My son just had a physical for his learners permit. There needs to be some form of evaluation where a licensed professional is putting their name and reputation on a approval or denial? Unfortunately, this will not catch all bad actors. Society will not hesitate to call for the head or license of that professional.
ReplyDeleteThe NRA does not want any "infringement" on the 2 amendment. It's the camels nose under the tent argument, which I agree with to a point. We can do better than carte blanch gun ownership.
As a 2a advocate and gun owner I believe that background checks should include the exploration of one's history of psychiatric treatment and social media profiles. However, we live in a society that values both freedom and privacy. The government's meddling in personal affairs is a dangerous fork in the road of personal liberties. We must address the problem where it occurs. Heighten security measures in schools. Use technology to identify weapons as they enter school property. Hire armed resource officers at every school. But even then, these incidents will continue to occur. It is a price we pay for freedom and tolerance.
ReplyDelete1) This has zero to do with 2A or guns. It was the crazy shooter and his mental problems. But it's easier to flail against inanimate objects than face our mental health care failures.
ReplyDelete2) Where was this blog's call for a national conversation about sensible automobile controls after the Waukesha parade rampage? If I missed it, I stand corrected. It was the crazy driver and his mental problems.
3) Any school district that spends a single penny on something other than security - starting this morning and until their schools are secured - should have its board impeached and removed immediately. We're long past the "if it saves just one life" point.
Precious lives were lost and people want to make it about politics. Unreal. I pray for those poor babies, that teacher and their loved ones. We need to do better. My heart is shattered
ReplyDeleteA few things. The first comment here has a point. The lack of faith in this country has corresponded with a rise in violence. We also have a fatherlessness problem in this country. The most recent ghoul to commit mass murder lived with his grandmother so there was almost no familial support. Yes, I support overturning Roe but I also support making child support laws much more stringent. Reopen the state hospitals. There is a massive mental health crisis in America. Several of the recent mass shootings (the NYC Subway attack comes to mind) would have been avoided if the perpetrator had been institutionalized. Pornography and social media need to be much more restricted. Video games are the easy target but Pornography is leading to an ED epidemic among otherwise healthy 20 and 30 year old men who are assuredly lashing out in impotence. Social media has a number of evils it is spreading across society. A comments section is hardly the best place to unpack it all but I think we can universally acknowledge the reality. Finally, end gun free zones. They're easy targets. School shootings started under the Clinton AWB with columbine. You're never going to put the 2A Genie back in the bottle. Evil individuals who want to cause harm with a gun will always be able to acquire one (or several) even if you banned assault weapons TODAY. You'd also cause a civil war because of where we are as a society.
ReplyDeleteGeezus 12:07! The 1950's called. They want your mentality back. Given your level of complete "ivory tower" living, you've obviously never lived or worked in the real world trying to ameliorate real life problems. I feel badly for any child you raise.
DeleteAnd your comment is so much better. Get a life
DeleteWow Bernie, you activated the gun crazies. Unfortunately I don’t see any viable suggestions from 2a advocates, just the usual “more guns” solutions. We love our guns more than we love our kids.
ReplyDeleteCriminals and mentally ill will get guns no matter what. Illegally
Delete2A sort of enthusiast with 5 weapons and no need for assault rifles to be on the streets or purchased by anyone under 21 years old. Not a member of the nra as the money donated and spent does more harm than good!
ReplyDelete2a Enthusiast.....As someone who has been around firearms for years and years and respects them, does that make me an "enthusiast"?
ReplyDeleteWell, first off, let's all stop throwing around phrases and words that are so broad as to be almost anything to anyone. "Commonsense" rules, define that please. What may appear to be common to one is a lightening rod to another. Until that is defined, most will turn off. Assault rifle, assault-style rifle, scary-looking gun, military-style gun, etc. Yeah, define them. There is no such thing as an "assault rifle" by definition. If you actually read the "Assault Weapons Ban" law passed by Congress, it's not defined as such, rather it's defined as the "Violent Crime Control and Law enforcement act of 1994" and "Assault weapons" naming has been added, not by the law. Stop using made up words. Oh, and the AR in AR-15 is for ArmaLite Rifle, the originators of that particular gun.
Second, how about re-establishment of a Mental Health system in the USA. Bernie, you're old to remember when we actually cared about people with mental health issues. Yes, the State Hospital system was far, far from perfect but it was better than what we have now. "Mainstreaming" people with serious mental health issues has had a profound effect on the citizenry of the USA and not in a good way.
Third, call "gun buy-back" what it really is, compensated confiscation. You can't buy back something you never owned. Again, controlling the language to real terms gives validity to ones position. Not all of us are knuckle-dragging, pie-faced mouth-breathers like some would like to portray us.
Finally, use legislation to achieve the goals, not "rule by courts". If you want a "law", pass a law, put members on all sides on the record where they stand. Don't let this become another "Roe V Wade" with the Court promulgating a position. Laws are created by elected representatives, not un-elected people.
I'm a gun owner and pro-2A. A common thread in these shooting is fatherless boys. Reasons for school killings are multi-causal, but Ritalin use to keep fatherless boys in check isn't helping, and may be causing more violence.
ReplyDeleteThere's no money to upgrade school security and deal with our mental health crisis.
ReplyDeleteAlso, we spent $40 million on war in another country in a single day.
40 million, you used the wrong letter. billion
DeleteMaybe if science discovers a medication that actually makes the penis longer.
ReplyDeleteTo those suggesting the school was a "soft target" and needed trained guards posted. It does appear that the shooter was engaged prior to him entering the building, wounding 2 officers.
ReplyDeleteHe was wearing tactical body armor.
An 18 year old who bought 2 rifles on his birthday and owned or had access to body armor.
So many red flags here.
We are a country of smart and driven people who solve problems to make life better for everyone.
There are rational and reasonable limits that can be put in place to reduce the chance of this type of event happening. Nobody can prevent it, but it can and should require MUCH more effort and planning by mentally deranged lunatics like this kid was and maybe in that effort and planning enough people will be alerted to a potential problem before it actually happens...
Interesting... Bernie. You not getting any real suggestions on how to Stop these shootings from the 2nd Amendment people. That's because they don't have any real suggestions. They don't give a shit. Dead kids are just the price we have to pay so they can own AR-15s and compensate for their small dicks.
ReplyDeleteAny person with half a brain knows you will never stop a criminal from obtaining any form of weapon. And I’m not seeing you making any rational suggestions
DeleteShall not be infringed
ReplyDelete2:26: that's a nice cherry pick.
DeleteI am not just a Second Amendment Enthusiast. I am a Constitution Enthusiast.
ReplyDeleteThat said, so-called "Red Flag" laws are good in theory, but often impractical in practice. The mentally ill are often most threatening to immediate family members. As such, family members are frequently reluctant to take action against the mentally ill for fear of violence by that mentally ill person against them.
I have personal experience with this. In my case, the mentally ill family member (a longtime drug abuser) physically abused another family member (who required hospitalization). However, the victim refused to press charges, much less proactively seek an intervention by mental health authorities. Out of fear.
If "Red Flag" laws have any hope of being effective, a mechanism needs to be in place to insure those who want to report a mental illness problem are protected from retribution. That's the difficult part.
However, even if "Red Flag" laws could protect the person(s) reporting the mentally ill; and, firearms were subsequently confiscated, a mentally ill person intent on doing bodily harm will find a way to procure a weapon whether it be a gun, a knife, explosives - you name it.
Until we, as a nation, have an honest conversation about the biggest health problem we face, mental illness; and, what measures we ought to take to reduce the dangers the mentally ill represent to themselves and to others, we'll just continue to whistle past the graveyard.
Let me be clear. I am only interested on comments from 2a supporters. I want to hear their suggestions. If you do not see your comment, that is why.
ReplyDeleteI support an unbridled 2A. I own a Bushmaster, Mossberg 500, and Hell Cat 9mm. I once received a parking ticket at Musikfest. But haven't violated a single other law in my life. I acknowledge that the only way to eliminate this problem is through [unspecified legislation]. Both parties must come together in a bipartisan fashion to pass meaningful [unspecified legislation].
ReplyDelete1. Attack and neuter law enforcement.
ReplyDelete2. Bail reform to assure revolving door violent crime.
3. Lazy prosecutors who plea bargain away gun offenses.
4. Liberal judges who minimize gun related sentences.
5. Ignore the areas where most gun violence occurs.
6. Ignore the demographics associated with most gun violence.
7. Blame the NRA
8. Further restrict those who have done nothing wrong.
9. Vote Democrat
10. Concentrate on gun violence instead of the 800,000 unborn babies who are torn from the womb at their mothers insistence every year.
I’m a 2A advocate.
And these are my suggestions.
You’re only interested in pro 2A comments?
ReplyDeleteCheck 2:24.
The overwhelming majority of gun violence in this country occurs in its 100 largest cities, in areas dominated and controlled by the political party that calls for stricter gun control, ONLY when the gun violence occurs outside of these areas.
ReplyDeleteIt is a sickening cycle that has been occurring for decades.
As a 2A advocate, I have a suggestion that would cut shootings by 50% in this country in 1 year.
Federally prosecute gun crimes in those 100 largest cities, applying federal mandatory minimal sentencing guidelines in the process. Remove the ability of liberal prosecutors, politicians, and judges to subvert justice via their liberal policies.
Because we know which political party dominates these gun violence infested areas, it’s easy to see why my suggestion will never happen.
On May 14th, 21 people were shot in Milwaukee, and not by the police.
This blog didn’t mention it.
Surprised?
Tom Wolf's just demanded [unspecified legislation]. I am NRA and I support [unspecified legislation]. I believe Wolf's solution will finally move the ball forward.
ReplyDeleteI’m the commenter from 2:26. I want to expand on what I meant. I’m a true 2A supporter and I believe most gun laws are unconstitutional. So, if people, left or right, want to do something about firearms, they might want to start with a constitutional amendment. It literally says “…shall not be infringed.” Is the law an infringement? If the answer is yes I view it as unconstitutional. No one has to agree with me but that’s my take.
ReplyDeleteSince when is Lehigh Valley Ramblings the place to solve this type of issue? Getting to the bottom as to why this 18 year old male got to this point in his life is key (you know, the five whys). Beto O’Rourke and his inappropriate, insensitive outburst today is an example of our country gone wrong. Figure out why these things are happening and then work to solve them. Pointing fingers as is the norm for this site is not only disrespectful to those who died but a mockery of who we are as a country. You bit off too much with this one and you know it, Bernie. Better off sticking to defending Lamont McClure as he continues to ruin this county. God Bless Texas!

ReplyDeleteUm, That's what I'm doing. I am interested in what 2a supporters think about these mass shootings and how they think we can stop them. I am also looking for commonalities in the way we all think. I believe this blog is no better or worse than any other place to discuss it.
Therehave been some unthinking responses. In your own comment, you criticize discussing it on this blog and then say we need to figure out why these things happen and try to solve it. So you actually contradict yourself. You obviously are unable to use simple logic.
: Where was this blog's call for a national conversation about sensible automobile controls after the Waukesha parade rampage? " The analogy to cars is ridiculous. Cars are not killing machines. They are designed for transport, not homicide. Guns are designed to kill.
ReplyDeleteBernie…I typically don’t agree with your opinions but I applaud your forum as a means of facilitating dialogue. I believe you are sincere in wanting to know what 2A supporters think on this issue.
ReplyDeleteThere is probably much commonality amongst varying opinions.
For me, I feel I should be able to maintain the types of firearms to protect my own family, that police officers maintain to protect my family.
The mentality of this 18 year old was he apparently gave up. He allegedly shot his own grandmother then has a car wreck. Geez ? My question is how was he able this day in age breach the school ? Personally I don’t believe he would be able to have gotten into our local school that fast . Also , I believe “resource officers” should be trained and vetted for abilities to confront characters like this, before their placed in academic facilities. as it was a Boarder Patrol Official that put him down . I have in the past observed the competency of an agent from this agency and he was indeed one of the best LE firearms handlers I have observed from an LE agency and we get them in our range frequently, Lehigh University will pay for their staff to join our sporting range and the Chief should be commended for his leadership (I’m not familiar with him) . Marksman is paramount, it’s like Golf in its discipline. I have had the advantages of 5 great coaches in marksmanship ,” Presidents Hundred “ “Distinguished “ one Double Distinguished “ 3 branches of military service over many years with several teams and different conditions from each. LEs are handicapped somewhat- like great ball players, golfers ,hockey, nobody started at 24 ,and that’s where LE start at 24 . They have to go “outside” and find out what else is on the other side of that wall to excel. Bless them more today , than ever. !
ReplyDelete"Guns are designed to kill"
ReplyDeleteLifelong firearms owner/user. I'l skeet and target shoot with the best in my age range. I don't hunt and have only ever killed mice and bugs - with traps and swatters. You have a large logical blind spot.
@10:12 then you would be a proponent of you or your neighbors be able to have a 50 caliber sniper rifle, a fully auto machinegun, a grenade launcher, or a rocket launcher. Police maintain these things.
ReplyDelete"skeet and target shoot with the best in my age range. I don't hunt and have only ever killed mice and bugs - with traps and swatters. You have a large logical blind spot."
ReplyDeleteRegardless how you use a gun, it is a killing machine. That is its purpose. It is not designed to transport you, but to kill. Thus, those who ask why cars or pencils are not being banned are completely illogical.
Anon 2:09 pm (5/25) said: "Also, we spent $40 million on war in another country in a single day."

Delete@ 7:05 then do you believe Cawthorne should be put in jail for his repeated attempts to go through airport security with a loaded weapon. Put him in jail immediately for 20 years.
ReplyDeleteHere is an idea:
ReplyDeleteRequire liability insurance for all gun owners and the purchase of all new firearms. This will create a market where private insurers independently underwrite each applicant taking into consideration age, criminal history, mental stability, number of firearms owned, and any other variable they feel will increase the likelihood of a claim against them.
Over time only acceptable risks will be insurable. Insurance will be prohibitively expensive for some, limiting access to firearms for much of the population that the market determines to be a higher risk. For gun owners that pose little to no risk, competition will likely produce dirt cheap liability products that meet the requirements of the law.
What about all of the other weapons. That's just a way for insurance companies to make more money. Those with illegal guns won't pay. How about real punishment for gun use illegally and actually keep them in prison?
DeleteI have had my Conceal Carry Firearm Permit now for over 7 years out of Lehigh County.
ReplyDelete1. Persons got to understand (It is not the Gun Makers Fault)
2. A Gun does NOT ASK to be fired or pointed in an unlawful direction or manner
3. A Gun does not ask to kill persons or child
A Gun will never FIRE it can be a fully loaded Firearm out in the open & that Gun will not harm anyone unless it is picked up & used in a manner of harm.
Simple it all comes down to the person with intentions of harm with that Gun.
has nothing to do with checks / or criminal history
I do feel AR-15 type firearms should only be limited to US Military Personel
Biden stated today that there’s no reason for Americans to own 9mm pistols. Look it up.
DeleteDon’t think you’re safe from his anti gun agenda because you’re only advocating for pistols that you carry via your permit.
You stand for all gun ownership against tyranny, or you risk ceding all gun rights to the American left.
Not my words.
Biden’s words.
Hi.
DeleteAll your civilian weapons collectively used against a “tyrannical government” AKA, American Armed Forces won’t even register a blip on the radar.
So can we stop with the fantasy that your fat ass is going to miraculously turn into Jason Bourne overnight and defeat this imaginary oppressor of yours, and let’s get down to common sense gun ownership policy that works and saves the life of our children.
Not everyone wants to live in a dystopian country where everyone is up to their gills with guns and ammo, and no one trust each other, because that’s not real freedom now is it, Chuck?
