Northampton County Council voted last night to seek a pay study for county employees and a review of the county's nursing home. The vote was 8-0. It was supported by all Council members present. Tara Zrinski was absent.
In discussing the pay study, John Cusick indicated that salary comparisons do exist at the County Comm'r Ass'n, and those should be obtained. President Lori Vargo-Heffner added that a great deal of information is also available at the Bureau of Labor..
When it approved the budget, county council set aside $450,000 to fund a number of studies, but expects to spend only a fraction of that sum.

You reported on your blog (a few weeks ago) that there is a County Rule or Regulation (LAW) that states a pay study/survey must be done every two years. Whenever the legislature passes a law they also make a "penalty phase" (fine, etc.) part of the legislation. Is there a penalty for the County not doing a pay study if mandated by their own regulations/legislation? If not, then what sense is there to having a law? just curious.

AND who would be responsible for enforcing this law.
The Bureau of Labor's numbers are notoriously bad and endlessly revised. Any study leaning on their numbers is problematic, to be kind.
What is the deal with Zrinski? She is a county elected official but does not attend meetings. She is always running for a better paying job and is cheating the people who pay her for her local spot.
She should just resign her council seat and run for whatever she wants. It is obvious she is not satisfied with being a local official. It is apparently beneath her.
Pay study isn't enough. You need to then pay them that amount, not like previously just ending with pay study. Let see McClure not raise taxes high now.
We need to change the laws for politicians. they need mandatory work requirements. And they also get specific PTO. Just like normal workers. Then if they screw up and abouse one or don't hold up to the other they get fired and cannot become a politician ever again. And they need to turn over all their political gotten gains. Also if they are perceived to be moonlighting by holding a second potion on government time then they should also be immediately fired and lose all future pensions of government help. And also if they become a candidate for another position they should immediately have to quit the position they are currently in and forfeit all benefits from their current position immediately.
What has to happen for NORTHAMPTON County to be investigated!????
It's definitely time to start that process!!
The McCluregate, and The Dertingation Factor has gone to far!!
Northampton County needs an outside agency, to address the issues at hand, immediately!! The EMPLOYEES, are definitely expressing great concern!!
A vote, of No Confidence, of the Elected Executive, and his Appointees!
Needs to be, afforded, ASAP!
None of this matters. They can do all the studies they want. they are trying to save face with the employees. Council doesn't want to start getting called out the way the executive and his cabinet are. But when the numbers show the truth Lamont and Chucie will just say no money to do anything. But will find the money for votes and his buddies. Maybe Kenny over at the jail deserves another raise.
The truth of the matter and the real shame of this whole situation is that nothing would have been done at all if not for this BLOG. The employees and the taxpayers owe you a debt of gratitude for what was accomplished right here Bernie. Big MAC and Dirtinger would never have done a study if not for this blog forcing Council to act. Big Mac and Charlie ought to be ashamed.
Too bad they aren't actually obligated to do anything with the information of a pay study. The executive should be embarrassed with what our county pays it's employees. A public defender starts at $13 an hour! A entry level fast food restaurant pays more. A single person would have to have a second job to afford cost of living with a majority of the positions at the county. The only saving grace is our benefits packages that so far beats working in the public sector. McClure will do just enough to pacify until he is out of office then we start all over again.
