2021 Election Analysis: McClure Won the Townships and Boroughs

Everyone expected Executive Lamont McClure to win easily in the Democratic strongholds of Bethlehem and Easton. And he did. He won convincingly every precinct in both Bethlehem and Easton. But how did he do outside the blue bastions? Did he win the cities but lose everywhere else? A review of the voting data, now that canvassing is complete, reveals that McClure beat challenger Steve Lynch in both the Townships and Boroughs.

Townships

McClure won in Allen Tp (769-633); Bethlehem Tp (3,463-2,465); Forks Tp (2,309-1,766); Hanover Tp (2,242-1,405); Lower Nazareth (1,113-937); Lower Saucon (1,858-1,728); Palmer Tp (3,296-2,311); and Upper Nazareth (997-785)

Lynch prevailed in Bushkill Tp (1,299-1,053), E Allen Tp (636-622), Lehigh Tp (1,652-1,308), L Mt Bethel Tp (476-384), Moore Tp (1,592-1,212), Plainfield Tp (1,012-749), Upper Mt Bethel Tp (1,080-697), Washington Tp (694-588), Williams (913-904).

If you add it all up, McClure won the Townships with 23,564 votes to 21,384 for Lynch. In the 2020 Presidential, Biden won in Bethlehem Tp, Palmer Tp and Hanover Tp. McClure managed to add Allen Tp, Lower Nazareth Tp, Lower Saucon Tp and Upper Nazareth Tp to his side of the ledger.

Boroughs

I've previously told you that McClure won Nazareth (764-568); Northampton (1,199-963); Bath (245-241); N Catty (357-172); Freemansburg (221-118); Hellertown (755-552); and Wilson Borough (627-356).

The candidates tied in Glendon with 27 votes apiece.

Lynch prevailed in W. Easton (101-90), Bangor (440-417), Chapman (31-12), Pen Argyl (403-306), Portland (91-45), Roseto (226-187), Stockertown (132-117), Tatamy (174-1300, Walnutport (211-201) and Wind Gap (265-247).

Adding it all up, McClure won the boroughs with 5,947 votes to 5071 for Lynch.

He won the blue vote, as we all expected. But he also won the purple vote in what I'd view as a rejection of extremism and vindication of moderation.

McClure's message failed in the Slate Belt and northwestern tier. That's no surprise. According to one of my readers, one of Lehigh Tp'e Supervisors stated outside one of the polling places that he'd like to douse all Democrats with gasoline.

No wonder we're promoting alternative energy.

  1. The margin that Lynch won by in multiple townships is stunning.

  2. If Kachmar had opted to run for county exec instead of mayor, the outcome would have been different.

  7. I’m not at all surprised by the amount of voters who chose Mr. Lynch. Had Mr. Lynch been a little less abrasive, etc.,etc. his appeal would have been even greater. If you take the time to thoroughly look around, you will see a rapidly growing number of citizens unhappy about today’s Democrat policies. Policies that are reaching down negatively into household budgets, in particular.
Then, the matter of behavioral control using the Covid situation, something that is being poorly managed and also losing in credibility.
Face it, Democrats at ALL levels will have a difficult time in elections going forward. Typical, hardworking citizens have seen just about enough of the mess Washington is creating. It’s misguided priorities on several issues.
A huge voting block (including both Democrat and Republican) of average, everyday people is prepared to vote not just against the radicalized Democrats, but generally against most every Incumbent office-holder.

  8. The Slate Belt is a festering political sore. Annex it and send them over the mountain to abide with their northern Pa. Trump lovers.

Indeed. I think it speaks more to a visceral hatred of McClure and what he stands for, more than support for Lynch. Given a viable candidate, those margins would be substantially larger for the R. A sizeable portion of the northern tier electorate just simply hates McClure.

I always do an elections analysis. It's called journalism. I am providing raw numbers out of different areas. My conclusion is that McClure won outside of the cities, not just in the cities, and that conclusion is supported by the data. He won in communities that Biden lost when Dem enthusiasm was higher. That conclusion is also supported by the data. You can ask God to use His supernatural powers to eliminate me.

  15. McClure is good at handing out other peoples money. That is all he did. He made a production out of the federal money and made sure it got to places that made him look like a hero. The guy is a publicity hound and does not get credit for handing out millions of funeral money he had nothing to do with. His attitude is arrogant and self aggrandizing. His narrow margin on council will prove troublesome for he and his crew.

Um, it was a tad more than that. The county was given very wide discretion on CARES Act spending. It could have decided to invest it all in the Democratic cities. It could have directed it to Democratic nonprofits. It could have tried to keep every penny.

Thanks to the Chamber, the County (both Council and McClure) were able to take care of 1,000 small businesses, Democrat and RepublicaN, who were negatively impacted. In fact, the program was so successful that the feds took note and went on a tour. The county council and McClure helped small businesses in the Slate Belt and northern tier, where they lost, and in the cities. They did this bc it was the right thing to do. McClure actually did come up with the plan, and Council ensured it retained oversight and final say.

    1. Yes you are right... He did make the choices thanks for clarifying what your buddy did. And he chose not to give hazard pay to employees that kept coming to work in these times. Money the federal government gave him for that simple reason. No give it to someone who can sit at home. But pay someone to sit at home and that's fine. But force someone to come to work, and get no extra incentive from the federal money he was given and blame that employee. Make them come to work then blame them if they get covid. Wish some ppl would stop thinking this is still the Kennedy Democrats. Nothing like that today. Lamont and chuck aren't for the working man.. just the vote
.. here's free money now tell the public to vote for me and how great I am while I sh-t on the county employees... your buddies Bernie..

  19. Who in world would Biden in the same league with Trump Trump was a leader not a politician---Biden was a 50 year politicians who was always on the wrong side of every issue.Just look at the last10 months

  20. Biden is trying his best to ruin this country--he will if we keep him 3 years. The democrats impeached Trump twice, we have to impeach Biden then Harris and by next year Pelosi will be out of office and the majority Republicans will lead this country out of this disaster that Biden and his radicals put us in.

  22. "we have to impeach Biden"

Question, what do you plan to impeach him for? Seriously?

  23. McClure is only good at blowing air up Council's butt. "Because of YOU Council, we were able to ....." The only reason he won was because the Republican's had Lynch. Otherwise, he would be out on his A--.

  24. All this talk about national politics on a post concerning local election results. How insulting and rude. 8 comments about trump biden or general bitching about each. If you're going to get butthurt and "blow oil" about off topic be consistent.

  25. With every new post from Lynch that I see I'm more grateful that he lost. It is scary that he got as many votes as he did

We can clearly see you were the captain of your college debate team.

Just because a source of news brings forth facts and data that you don't like or don't want to believe DOES NOT make if fake news. You are deluded and live in a fantasy world if you think anything that you typed out is true.

  27. These stats should be listed on Zillow. Imagine moving to a place that voted Lynch. Awful neighborhoods.
