Update:: I Have Good News and I Have Bad News

The good news is that I completed the 335-mile trek from Pittsburgh to DC. The bad news is that my bike was stolen in broad daylight despite being locked. I had it hooked up to a stand but apparently failed to set the lock properly. The thief stole my bike, tools and clothing but left my lock. This basically ruined my trip.

As I reflect on things, I did what I set out to do. Nobody can steal that from me. Though I confess I really loved that Cannondale Trail 5, and had it set just the way I wanted, it is only a thing. Things do not last. Memories do.

  2. Sorry for your loss, Bernie. Congrats on completing the trek.

Let Muriel Bowser's team of detectives get on the case. I'm sure they'll work hard to find the perp.

  3. I am so sorry Bernie. That is a rotten outcome for your hard work and determination. Some people are such creeps and oxygen thieves. How will you return home? May some of us contribute toward a new bike?

  4. Actually it did not ruin my trip. I completed my goal and things are only things. It sucks but many people have been treated far more harshly

  7. Congrats on your ride. Condolences on the bike. I know it's just a thing but having been a rider I know the bike becomes special. Nothing is sacred these days.

  8. Maybe the perp believes your trek is worthy of recognition and was sent by the Smithsonian so it could be given a place of honor.

  11. Lucky you weren't bike-jacked at gun point! Ironic that liberal Democrat Bernie gets his expensive bicycle stolen in the most left-wing rat hole city in America. Lesson not learned.

  12. Unless you’re a cyclist, you have no appreciation of what a bike means to its owner. This was by no means an expensive bike, although it was expensive to me. I had it outfitted exactly the way I wanted. Also the suggestion that I am a liberal Democrat would be rejected by most liberals. I am a centrist who has probably voted for more Rs than ads. But Trump has polluted your party. Most cities are made up of the working poor band tgey rightly understand that people like you have no use for them.

  13. Great accomplishment. Sorry it ended on a sour note. Since you got the guy on video, maybe they'll actually find it? Mask came in handy for him though

  14. You have lots of bikes. He may have had none. The crime is owning several while so many have none. From each according to his ability...

  15. I did have three bikes but was in the process of giving one away to someone who needed one. I now have two and will keep two in case one goes down.when I can afford a new bike, I will give one away.

  17. Congratulations, Bernie. I feel sorry for the thief. He'll probably return it once he gets a whiff of the saddle.

  20. Damm waWal-Mart don't have any on the racks so Lynch was just waiting for that oppertunity afforded him by stalking you Bernie. Them political opponent's are hell on earth to recon with.

  21. Fantastic accomplishment! Congratulations.

Thanks you for your donation to the poor as there are many of us out there since the Rs haven’t paid their fair share for many decades. If anything having your bike seized through DC ghetto eminent domain is political justice for your centrists ways.

Glad you finished your ride in one piece and healthy.

  24. there is a bright side to this

when you get your next bike you will know exactly what worked and how to arrange it, what seat handlebar water bottle paniers etc. that work the best and it's fun building something that is uniquely yours from the experiences that you gained

oh and always lock your bike around both wheels and through the frame,
see all the lessons you learned on this trip?

  25. Its pretty obvious that Trumps tax cuts and economic plan put this nation in such dismal outlook that the only way to get by is to take what you can get from anyone and everyone. Maybe our saviour Biden will turn this thing around. Give him time. Any we'll probably be getting more Biden Bucks soon, so hopefully you can get out there and find a new bike with the free cash.

  26. Wow! Some folks are so bitter and are simply unable to switch gears. Try downshifting a bit. You’re struggling. Thanks

  27. I am so sorry Bernie. I’m sure your jubilation at reaching your goal was snatched along with the bike. Your many friends and fans are feeling for you. I hope your bike will be recovered and returned to you and the perp properly punished. Congrats on completing the journey.
