Bryan Callahan is the sole member of Bethlehem City Council to say No to a tax hike in the middle of a pandemic. He was also the only one to say No to the elimination of four firefighters and No to a stormwater fee. The voters rewarded him by rejecting him at the polls on Tuesday. He came in fifth of five candidates for four slots on City Council in both Lehigh and Northampton County. I guess Bethlehem citizens must like tax hikes.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
I am so disappointed. While I figured Willie would win, I was hoping for a closer race. Council, though, is now filled with so-called progressives, so there will be few checks and balances. Bethlehem is headed for some very dark days, I fear. Perhaps Ce-Ce Gerlach should move to The Christmas City because it seems like its voters would elect her, too.
ReplyDeleteThe residents of Bethlehem "dislike" Callahan!
ReplyDeleteWhether you "dislike" him or not he did keep the citizens best interest at hand! Welcome to the new wave. This will be a smaller NYC very soon.
ReplyDeleteVoters voted for women. Period. Women won big up and down both counties and in the City. Callahan can't change the fact that he is a male.
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:04, bingo. Bryan was the wrong sex to win this election cycle, and I am not sure I see that changing anytime soon. Semi-competent women won everywhere. Trump unintentionally empowered women on a level never seen before and I do not think it will change anytime soon.
ReplyDelete"Voters voted for women. Period."
ReplyDeleteLOL.
Women only voted for women. Hopefully, they ill use some discretion the Fall. Some of thee candidates are fruit loops regardless of gender.
ReplyDelete10:04 is so right Look at the county, Lipinski and even Bruno, really???
Yeah this was a like a gender reveal party.
Identity politics, thanks to LV ROAR and LV4Some. They are as bigoted as the Proud Boys in their own way.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who LV Roar is but you are so right about LV4some. I know some of them, they are as far left as the Proud Boys are to the far Right!
