In Northampton County's 2016 Presidential contest, voter turnout was a record 70%. This year we broke that record when 75.68% of the county's registered voters cast a ballot, either in person or by mail. We all know that Joe Biden won, but Republicans did a better job of showing up.
Going into the election, there were 102,478 registered Democrats and 81,400 registered Republicans. Of the Democrats, 76,856 voted. That's a 75% turnout. Of the Republicans, 65,440 voted. That's 80.4%.
There may be fewer of them, but Republicans will crawl over broken glass to cast their vote.
Biden won the county with 85,087 votes. Assuming that every Democrat voted for him, which we know is not so, this means he picked about 9,000 votes from Republicans and independents.
So roughly 15%-16% of Republicans voted for Biden, by my guess.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't broken down into the vote from the two cities. However, it is quite clear, when the County elections take place next year 2021, you can bet your bottom dollar that the Republicans will take over the County government. McClure will be History. Sad but true.
ReplyDeleteI did a breakdown of the cities and every municipality a few weeks ago. You just aren't paying attention, and thus your prediction means little to me. There is no doubt in my mind that McClure will win easily. I think Zrinski will win bc she has a following despite being insane. She will damage the other Dems. McGee will spend money. Vargo-Heffner looks weak. Don't know if Heckman is running.
ReplyDeleteTara should sue you for libel, this is a disgusting volcano of venom unfit for the racks near supermarket checkout.
ReplyDeleteNot at all. I believe McGee wins if he runs bc he will spend money. I believe Zrinski wins bc, nutty as she is, she has a following. I would hope people see through her. Heckman wins if he runs. And Peg is not running., The only real weak spot is Vargo-Heffner, She thinks she will be Council Prez this year and that will raise her visibility. I believe Dems could sweep but will likely lose at most one seat. It will be 5-4 Dem or 5-4 R. It depends on the quality of candidates and the type of campaign mounted. It also depends on whether there is a decent turnout in Bethlehem and a contested election for Mayor. If Rs field candidates, they could win some races there. But the increased turnout in the general will help Dems in the county. If the Bethlehem race is over in the primary, that will hurt county Dems.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about Zrinski, But she did turn a lot of people off she spoke with during her run as State Rep. Although she tried to hide her "Socialist Democrat" views, she appears to have failed. I'm not sure she recovers. But, it all depends on who the R's put up. I expect Lee Snover to find the most far right wing people she can find and they will fail. I never thought I would say this, but Lee Snover is crazier then the Tea Party.
ReplyDeleteIn a legal filing it is alleged that Each Democratic candidate in Pennsylvania received 35,000 extra votes. You guys lost. You cheated. You were caught. All those votes will be thrown out. President Trump won by a landslide!
ReplyDeleteCuckoo.
ReplyDeleteBased on your own blog wordings, the dems for county council all lose except for Zrinski. Also the republicans running all win. There is a rumor that Matt Muncey has put tougher a new dem council ticket anchored by Zrinski. So what does McClure want ultraleft wing progressive dems or republicans. You are no fan of the council democrats' and constantly attack them but you do really endorse McClure.
ReplyDeleteBlog wordings? What the hell is that? Look, you are in no positions to tell me what I think. I already said what I think. You also have no idea what Munsey is doing. Go away.
ReplyDeleteVote them all out and start over. And lets establish term limits for all offices.
ReplyDeleteTara Zrinski will be the top vote getter in the county!! Based on that she should be President of The Council. Also term limits for the County Executive like in Lehigh
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather's generation went to Europe to fight extreme nationlism (also called fascism...) and today, we have it popping up here. My great uncle stormed Gold Beach, lost his best buddy, got injured and still healed so he could fight his way through a good chunk of France before losing his leg below the knee and coming home.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, all I heard this election was "traditional American values" from people who are, literally, homegrown fascists. We must unite to extinguish any further grow of this radical far right threat to our nation, state and region. This starts with the GOP taking a good look in the mirror.
"Tara Zrinski will be the top vote getter in the county!! Based on that she should be President of The Council. Also term limits for the County Executive like in Lehigh"
ReplyDeleteI do not know who is running. You sound worried about McClure. I believe this requires a HRC Amendment. I have no problem with this suggestion, but the real evil is in Harrisburg and DC, not so much locally. The pay is too low and power too little for people to milk these offices. In most local offices, it really is a matter of public service. I would not support term limits on a local level bc it is hard enough to find people as it is, but I would not oppose efforts to impose them.
Yeah right, there is no fraud in the PA election--I like the part where 1.8 million ballots were sent out, and 2.5 million ballots were returned (and counted).
ReplyDeleteTrump won PA in a landslide!
This is sheer nonsense and is based on a misunderstanding of early voting. The ballots returned via early voting were not sent out. Just more conspiracy theories.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to post tribal remarks like one just submitted. Also, I decline to post a comment based on an misunderstanding of the vote. I explained already.
ReplyDeleteTrump inspired many people to vote, both for and against him. A lot of Republicans voted 3-party or wrote-in a candidate rather than vote for Trump but then voted straight ticket in all the down ballot races. I don't think we can expect the same turn-out, or even makeup of voters, in next year's county election. And if this election taught us anything it's that the polls are basically horoscopes for poli sci nerds.
ReplyDeleteMajor news networks first reported no evidence of fraud in the vote. Yesterday the report was some minor fraud but not enough to change the results. Pa and five other States still in play. Keep us up to date Bernie.
