that's terrific news. thanks for sharing that and for posting a few months ago about how to get a mail in ballot, I took that advice and voted by mail. Best way to vote, and really seems like the way to go.
I did not participate in the Primary due to Independent status. Maybe we can get an analysis of the total amount of Mail-in Ballots sent out. Just from memory, I believe some 40,000 mail-in ballots were provided. Yet, adding together the final votes cast collectively reveals about 16,000 votes total (between both Presidential Candidates) Mail-in and In-Person votes recorded.
Does this mean less than one half of all voters who asked for the privilege to vote by mail did not even vote? Did not use their eligibility? That deserves some thought, I think.
2:42 here - I found a more accurate source of vote totals. There seems to be much less a problem of unused Mail-in ballots than I originally thought. Apologies.
Thanks, As I reported previously, NorCo received 44,008 applications for a mail-in ballot. According to the election results, 36,460 voters cast their ballots by mail. This means that 7,548 voters who applied for ballots did not send in their ballots or that they arrived after Junbe 2. How many of these came and filed provisionals? In my district, there were 9. From what I've learned, other districts have turned in large numbers of provisionals as well. These ballots will be counted once it is determined that the provisional voter's absentee ballot was not already counted. No double voting. I spoke with one voter under the impression his provisional vote would be counted only if absolutely unnecessary. No, it WILL be counted so long as no mail-in was received.
Two of my none provisionals were from voters who had changed their registration to vote at their college, but were sent home as a result of Covid. My guess is those ballots will be partially allowed, if at all. The other seven were all from voters who, for one reason or another, failed to send in their absentee. Most are like me, forgetful. I did have to laugh with the mom whose kids got hold of her ballot.
Bernie I know this may be a dumb question but what is to stop someone from mailing in their ballot and then going to their polling place and voting again. Will this be caught or can some slip through?
That is pretty amazing. Tioga and Potter have like populations of 40,000 and 17,500. NorCo really stepped up its game.
@11:58PM yes that is a stupid question. First off, if you requested a mail-in ballot, you would only be able to vote on a provisional ballot in person, IF you didn't return the mail-in one. Yes, they track it, so if you did return it, you could not vote at all in person.
With respect to the machines, I found them to be "touchy". When I selected a presidential candidate, a candidate for another office 2 boxes down was highlighted. I corrected and tried again and the name below the presidential candidate was highlighted. I was wearing a plastic glove. I finally satisfied the touch sensor and got my vote cast. The added illumination of the completed ballot was a big improvement. I arrived at polling place at 8:30 and saw only one other voter leaving. The registrar struggled mightily with entering and finding my name. I do not know if she was unfamiliar with the screen or if the layout is awkward. Good that the option of mail in ballots was available or it would have been chaos. The mail in ballot, IMHO, except for extenuating circumstances, dehumanizes the voting and is a waste of time and tax payors' money. Voting at the polls was a good teaching experience for our children as they watched how we valued or not valued the right to vote. I next visited a jammed Home Depot and I can see that must be of top priority of our citizens who consider it to virus free compared to the big, bad polling center. If you consider me disagreeable please take into account I am annoyed that all the politicians, media and big shots are nicely groomed and this old lady needs a hair cut and color. Where are they all getting their hair cuts? Please Bernie, help me.
Lol, I am sorry but am unfamiliar with the black market for hairdressers. What I did was buy my own trimmer and I've been cutting my own hair. I do a lousy job, and you would not want me near your hair.

Try as you might you'll never be faster at reporting election results than the good folks in Illinois.

It seems to have gone well and is a much needed boost of confidence for the voters of Northampton County. Good job by the 2 Amys and their staff.

If someone just requests an absentee, he is barred from voting on the machine precisely for that reason.

If you are disagreeable I automatically like you.
"Bernie I know this may be a dumb question "
No such thing as a dumb question.
