National Guard to Remain at Gracedale Until May 10

Pennslvania's National Guard arrived at Gracedale on Monday to assist with resident care. They were slotted to be there for only 72 hours, but that stay has been extended until May 10.

Thirty-four members of the National Guard are primarily assisting with non-Covid-19 residents, allowing Gracedale employees to focus on residents who are positive for Covid-19 or have pending test results. Guard assistance includes twenty medics to work as CNAs and eight licensed nurses.

“We’ve had over 1,000 call-outs among our staff just in the month of April,” says Administrator Jennifer Stewart-King. “That is making things extremely difficult for the heroes of Gracedale who are caring for the residents. We’re very grateful to the National Guard for staying on to help care for our residents.”

  1. Bernie, you want something to dig into? Ask employees at Gracedale what the administrator has been saying to them , out loud , overheard by others, about the reasons the virus is in the building. Among other gems.

  2. How many private homes has the Guard been sent to? Is that number available?

  3. If you remember, I said a week or so ago that I spent almost a year in Gracedale after a near fatal accident. I also spent 16 years in the NJARNG. I don't know who I am more appreciative of; The Workers at Gracedale, or the National Guard troops. Any suggestions?

  4. How many other nursing homes in the area are managed so well they needed the National Guard? Unfair question? Yer doin' a great job, Lamont. You needed the Guard to save your citizens from you and your administration.

  7. Why aren't these residents being sent to a hospital for real medical care?

  8. This is a stunning failure by this administration. The National Guard? If this was John Brown you'd be on it every day - including weekends- with screaming headlines. The National Guard! Are you kidding me? Lamont McClure should resign this afternoon. It's the most stunning failure in county history. Holy shit. The National Freakin Guard.

  9. McClure takes no responsibility..sound familiar? Gotta blame someone so it has to be the employee's fault the place is over run by the virus.

Sure..that will really set a good tone for this failing administration. Start the healing by firing the witch in charge out there.
