On Tuesday, Donald Trump incorrectly tweeted that the flu is more deadly than Covid-19. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony S. Fauci rebutted this claim yesterday. "It is 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu. I think this is something people can get their arms around." Trump has falsely asserted that "[a]nyone who wants a test [for coronavirus] gets a test." Dr. Fauci set the record straight yesterday, admitting there had been "missteps" and that hopefully a large number of test kits will be available next week. Trump's campaign asserted that he'd continue to hold rallies instead of "hiding" like Joe Biden, but Dr. Fauci warned against large crowds. Trump's myrmidons declared incorrectly that Covid-19 has been "contained," but the WHO has just called it a pandemic. He's been the Officer Barbrady of this global crisis, but has finally reflected a different and somewhat chastened tone in his address to the nation last night.
In addition to announcing some draconian measures aimed at stopping the spread of this disease, he called on the nation to "put politics aside, stop the partisanship, and unify as one nation and one family.”
I hope he means it.
Perhaps he heard the words of Arcangel Michael:
"You might run on, for a long timeWhile it's understandable that all kinds of rumors and misinformation occur during a sudden crisis, it's inexcusable that much of it has come from the President of the United States. Hopefully, he finally got religion.
Run on, ducking and dodging
Run on, children, for a long time
Let me tell you God Almighty gonna' cut you down."
Do as I say, not as I do. The guy is an idiot - period, end of story. Why people Don read hats and support him is baffling to me - do they not see him for the empty suit and empty head that he is? The guy speaks worse than Joe Biden - how can you support an illiterate?
ReplyDeleteKeep your government hands off my free market for profit healthcare system.
ReplyDeleteFree market capitalism has it under control and is the best way to deal with public health, just cut taxes, and regulations.
He just shot someone in the middle of 5th avenue. We will see if what he says is right.
ReplyDeleteTrump new what was coming and you could read it in his demeanor. The markets are tanking right on Que. So unless you have a pension plan or money in the market your not likely to get sick.
Trumps countenance nor the markets response to his speech should be confused with being a reflection of concern for your health. Neither give a shit about your health or everyone would be universally covered and able to afford medicine.
Just imagine the fortunes that will be made as the rubber band is pulled back only to be released shortly after the leap year expires.
Trump is a carnival barker who can rad a teleprompter if he has to. He still doesn't get it and has to name others for this virus. he only care about the money end of things. Not the guy you want in a crisis. His empty suit is just to empty. He is a bog dummy that tells other dummies what they want to hear and pretends its still 1950.
ReplyDeleteHow does starting a trade war with Europe help fix the problem? And what does a ban on travel from Europe really accomplish? Does he understand you can get a connecting flight from London to somewhere that is not in Europe?
ReplyDeleteWhere were the health proposals to act on the public health problem? Seems that part of the speach was missing from the teleprompter.
Long ago I thought the moral of "the boy who cried wolf" best fit for President Trump... that he lies SO often, and for such personal and divisively partisan reasons, that the day would come when an emergency (I had previously thought it would be some act of terror, or other national security threat) would come upon us when we should be coming together, but much of America couldn't believe Trump, even if he could be telling the truth.
ReplyDeleteNow, that lack of credibility exposes another moral, "the Emperor has no clothes." He is a con-man, and always has been a con-man, and that is glaringly obvious to all except those dying on the kool-aid. "Nobody would confess that he couldn't see anything, for that would prove him either unfit for his position, or a fool. No costume the Emperor had worn before was ever such a complete success."
How we forget the Obumer/Bye-den years.
ReplyDeletePolitical rallies are dangerous and irresponsible Gathering groups to finger filthy touchscreens is dangerous and irresponsible. Postpone the election. Extreme times require extreme measures.
ReplyDeleteTrump called unity, to set aside politicizing in favor of getting down to work on this situation, etc. etc. He assured us America has the best medical people and facilities on Earth. He asked Congress to approve much-needed funding.
ReplyDeleteSickness doesn’t choose sides.
Sure hope the message I heard from Trump doesn’t fly right over the heads of his viewers due to petty partisanship !
President Trump had already cancelled TWO rallies before you launched another ill-advised diatribe against him. This will affect tens of thousands of people who support him. Biden and Sanders also have cancelled those tiny get-togethers they call "rallies". This will affect a handful who don't know any better...
ReplyDeleteWhat's draconian and what's not? Gracedale is on complete lockdown. Let's let Bernie decide. Trump says locking down these facilities is necessary. That means it's draconian and stupid and will kill old people, children, cute furry pets, destroy the environment and the very fabric of society, right? Good politics will see us through this draconian nonsense. Vote Biden!
ReplyDeleteIf Trump announced postponement of the November election, Democrats would finally get serious and have this thing cured in two weeks tops.

Of course Democrats will fix this and find a cure, they are the only intelligent ones in this conversation.
Vote Biden
Of course these are all the non-political thinking remarks, Trump can even get criticized for asking for unity. You guys need a big mirror. Your desperation at not being able to get rid of Trump is amazing. If you are putting your hopes in Biden it is a good example of your delusion.
ReplyDeleteMost democrats are public employees who call an electrician to change a light bulb, who seem to only know what they have been told. If not a union or government job would likely be homeless. The government is their god, keeping worshiping this false god.
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line is--politicians suck they always did and always will
ReplyDeleteDemocrats are the cornavirus on steroids trying to spread there illnesses to the old so they can use there id for there illegal voting base.

ReplyDeleteI hope Trump gets the virus. And I hope you do, as well. Anyone - him or you - bringing politics into this deserves bad things. It's tragic that either of you reproduced. Certain gene strains that would play politics with this kind of thing are better off being truncated. Please lick doorknobs until you test positive, you ghoulish asshole. No surprise a lawyer tracked it all over New Rochelle. It's in the DNA.
March 12, 2020 at 6:16 AM
Well, aren't you a sweet one! You're just going to have to get over the fact that some of us will hold Trump accountable for his neglect of the problem. Democracy is all about accountability.

Oh, we've all been saying the same thing for many days nw. It's Trump who was fussing about such trivialities as how the cruise ship would affect "his numbers".
Trump politicized th3e situation and still is doing so. What's is starting to occur to him now is that he's losing, and badly. And it's going to get much worse.
Maybe you should've gone with a party that believes in government or, at least, isn't headed by a narcissistic, lying rich boy.
The liar-in-chief will have his hotels taken care of with bailout taxpayer dollars, mark my words...
ReplyDeleteI've already accepted that Trump will make big money from his office. I'll be happy if he loses the election, and then all of it will stop.
ReplyDeleteAs a rule, I don't make it a point of dwelling on a poster's grammatical errors.
ReplyDeleteBut if you''re gonna call Trump supporters illiterate, at least proofread your comment.
"Why people Don read hats"
@12:31 am....I couldn’t agree more. Our liar in chief, Dishonest Donnie, has been conning the uneducated and gullible sheep for far too long. He is a phony, fraud, liar and pathetic loser. It’s just amazing how many people watch and believe FAUX NEWS and believe what they say is the truth. It’s like sheeps being led to slaughter.
ReplyDeleteI see that testing is free and easily available in Australia.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet, in the U.S.A....
"What's draconian and what's not? Gracedale is on complete lockdown. Let's let Bernie decide. Trump says locking down these facilities is necessary. That means it's draconian and stupid and will kill old people,"
ReplyDeleteI offered no criticism of the draconian measures Trump has finally taken. Not sure about trade with Europe, but many draconian steps are necessary. What I am critical of is how Trump has lied and politicized this matter. So have his supporters. Up until now, it is Trump who has minimized this crisis and outright lied about it. He has gone out of his way to blame Obama for his failure to have test kits. I have not even covered some of his other missteps, which include cuts to the CDC. I have just pointed to his general dishonesty about this matter, and have only done so in this post. He really needs to stop lying about this matter.
In fairness, the media has at times been like Chicken Little. Some of the more partisan sources on both sides have been irresponsible. But that';s no excuse for dishonesty. The worst thing a government can do is lie to its own people during a crisis.
The Trump who spoke last night is a different Trump than the one I've been listening to up until now. From this point out, he needs to be honest.
Well, horah we have finally been able to destroy Trump with a tiny Virus. After all, we thought we had him with the Access Hollywood tape, The Russian collusion affair, The Ukraine/Biden corruption impeachment. His removing troops from Syria, killing an Iranian Terrorist, withdrawing from the Paris accord, quitting the Iran payoff scheme. We all know he is a Russian agent. He is making billions at the expense of the U.S. poor. He has closed the border to poor immigrants who just want a better life. Now we have him right were we want him and it is time to finish him off. Horah. The mass Delusion continues. Much therapy is required here.
ReplyDelete9.15. Like if you like your doctor or your insurance, you can keep it.
ReplyDelete"President Trump had already cancelled TWO rallies before you launched another ill-advised diatribe against him. "
ReplyDeleteThis is true. He canceled two rallies yesterday. But up until shortly before his address, he insisted he would continue to hold rallies.

Wow, Trump really HAS done a lot of bad stuff. Thanks for the list.
"Of course these are all the non-political thinking remarks, Trump can even get criticized for asking for unity. "
ReplyDeleteI commend Trump for asking for unity. He should have been doing this all along, but has instead been divisive and dishonest. My hope is that he practices what he preached last night. I have tried to be honest and factual in my reporting about this matter.
No leadership at the top would have been unforgivable. Misleading is a self-serving, political, and possibly treasonous act. People will die because the President mislead and misinformed the public and deliberately mishandled public health for his personal benefit. It won’t “just go away” as he told us.
ReplyDeleteIt will go away, just think of all the benefits, if all the elderly are eliminated. This is a perfect example of social planning.
ReplyDeleteNorco and Mcclure did the right thing with the measures at Gracedale. That whole population is the primary at-risk target area.
ReplyDeletei think it is sickening some in this thread are advocating the benefits of this disease on the elderly.
Since obviously the President's call for unity was missed here, I'll try again.
ReplyDeleteInstead of wasting your time complaining, try doing something positive that will help that you have control over. Call/text/e-mail your neighbors, relatives and friends - particularly ones who are elderly and live alone and might not have contact with others. See if they're ok and if they need anything.
I would imagine that in the short term, things will get worse instead of better.
We can all argue the politics of this in a few months, when we know more and things have hopefully subsided. But now isn't the time for that.
He is an imbecile. I don't care if they drugged him into a lucid moment. Tired of winning yet?
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm staying home. I've washed my hands. I've wiped. I've filled my garage with toilet paper. I've checked on the old people. But I still have LOTS of time on my hands.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to use that time by making sure that no one forgets what Trump has done, which is exactly what he and his minions hope will happen.
He. Owns. This.
Until last night President Trump showed few signs of caring what doctors and scientists were saying about the virus. He has always cared what Vegas and Wall Street say, and their visions of the future are not following the recent Trump message line. The President looked scared last night....very scared.
ReplyDeleteAt this very moment, Joe Biden is listing what must be done, and will be done if he is elected and something like this happens again. That’s fine.
ReplyDeleteTo his credit, he spoke very well, didn’t seem at all confused. His presentation WILL help the public’s impressions of him. Overall, an excellent job. . . . just, in my opinion, nothing really different than what’s already happening.
He also DID politicize the just about everything. Not surprising.
12.30 stop talking about Biden that way, it is disrespectful.
ReplyDeleteThat was a different Trump last night, he's lost some of his swagger. A Trump who realizes this is a much bigger issue than he ever thought possible. A Trump who realizes that the stock market will continue free falling regardless of any possible government actions. A Trump who realizes that much of his re-election momentum is shot. All, through no fault of his own. A tough political break for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing would seem less like a hyped up flu virus hoax to influence the American election if someone other than just Bernie Sanders gave a shit about your health before this media storm. Timing.
ReplyDeleteRight after the Centrist circus consolidation boxing Bernie out, and super Tuesday, could not be better timing nor coincidental.
The populous president Trump's hat selling tours are over, his Louisville slugger of populous building, while his touted economy is detonated. Timing.
I don't believe these people care about you or your health at all, they care about themselves catching something from the proletariat, or concern for everyone's health would be more than just a Sanders platform issue before the main stream media storm.
I would be disgusted if my children turn out like Trump but I will never vote for Joe Biden like I did 12 years ago over Obama, never.
3 weeks ago only Bernie Sanders cared about everyone's healthcare. So it's Bernie or I bern it down, just like what's happening now.
I am against coronavirus victims, ebola victims, lyme disease victims, border jumpers, terrorists, and republicans being kept from the graciousness of America! Come one, Come ALL, wallow in our demise!
ReplyDeleteThe post that mentioned withdrawing from the Paris Accords is the winner here. As people are gasping for breath and burying loved ones, they'll be overwhelmed with grief that we didn't stick to our guns on climate change. To the poster: please spay or neuter yourself immediately. You cannot be permitted to reproduce and you make the world dumber with every

His job was to be one of the very first to get it so that he could act. He failed.
"Let me tell you God Almighty gonna' cut you down."
ReplyDeleteFor those so prepared, it is in times like these to be still, calm, and stand arrow straight to welcome the harvest.
No as bad as "You can keep your doctor" as said by a President a few years ago
ReplyDeleteDonald Trump is a total and utter disaster. What was evident years ago by those not completely immersed in the anus of Fox News, reality has hit home and people will die because of it. Thanks Trumpers.
ReplyDeleteI commend Trump for asking for unity. He should have been doing this all along, but has instead been divisive and dishonest. My hope is that he practices what he preached last night. I have tried to be honest and factual in my reporting about this matter.
ReplyDeleteTrump is afraid to meet with the Speaker of the House. He's a pussy and there is no unity coming from him.
One does not become POTUS by being an " imbecile" or a "pussy". 45 does himself no favors on many fronts. It is quite obvious that some are quite hateful toward the man. Since his election in 11/2016, some have been vocal regarding their opposition toward the man. Some have even allowed their anger and hatred of the man to become greater than their rational view of the issues.
ReplyDelete“…We all know he is a Russian agent. He is making billions at the expense of the U.S. poor. He has closed the border to poor immigrants who just want a better life. Now we have him right were we want him and it is time to finish him off. Horah. .”
I will not get into the simplistic view and inaccuracies in that poster’s head.
45 could say the sky is blue and some would not even agree with that. That attitude is what is divisive. Comments using pejoratives such as " imbecile" or "pussy" are not conducive to civil discourse. Comments such as those reveal more about the commenter than they do about the subject of the comment.
"He should have been doing this all along, but has instead been divisive and dishonest. My hope is that he practices what he preached last night."
Not only have some of the posters, trolls, been as divisive as always, referring to 45 as “Officer Barbrady…” or referring to his “myrmidons” is not helpful either. I know you are not simpatico with most of the views of 45 and you call ’em like you see ‘em. But your little digs are not unifying and lessen the cogency of your statements. IMHO
“Hopefully, he finally got religion.” Coming from an atheist?
"45 could say the sky is blue and some would not even agree with that. That attitude is what is divisive."
ReplyDeleteYes and 45 could say the sky is orange and some WOULD agree with that. Sadly, there are many who pretend to be objective but have an agenda, much like you Jeff. You pretend to be independent but have always been republican pro trump.
So it all depends on which brain dead group you want to follow. The ones that hate Trump no matter what or the ones that love and believe Trump no matter what Both equally divisive. Right Jeff? Now be smug again.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous March 15, 2020, at 2:40 AM
I am not trying to be smug. I apologize if that is how I come across. I am conservative and for that, I do not apologize. I do not "love and believe Trump no matter what". I do agree that both are equally divisive. President's come and go, so I would rather focus on issues rather than people. We should not allow dislike for our current president (the man) to overshadow issues and policy decisions. We all make mistakes. You, me, 45-everyone. We should all own them. I make no excuses for the shortcomings of 45. "45 could say the sky is blue and some would not even agree with that. That attitude is what is divisive." There are indeed those who agree and defend 45 if he said: "the sky is orange". That would be equally divisive. I do not pretend to be anything. I can only be me. I am a registered independent, not republican, am not pro-Trump all the time and do not follow or belong to any "brain dead group". Of course, that would depend on what one considers a "brain dead group". My "agenda" is driven by my experiences, knowledge, and faith. Aren't we all shaped by our experiences and what we have learned? In some spots and at certain times, parts of the sky do appear orangish.
Anonymous March 15, 2020, at 2:40 AM
ReplyDelete"So it all depends on which brain dead group you want to follow. The ones that hate Trump no matter what or the ones that love and believe Trump no matter what Both equally divisive."
It is not a good thing that apparently you only see two "brain dead" groups. There are areas between the fringes. A whole spectrum of ideas.
