Nathan Brown to Seek Simmons' Seat

Republican Nathan Brown is running for the State Rep. seat currently held by Justin Simmons in Pa.'s 131st legislative district. Simmons, whose term expires at the end of this year, has decided against seeking another term. He has served since 2011.

The 131st is a hodgepodge of municipalities located in three different counties. In Lehigh, it includes Coopersburg, Emmaus, Lower Milford Township, Salisbury Township (PART, Ward 03 [PART, Division 01]), Upper Milford Township and Upper Saucon Township. In Montgomery, it's East Greenville, Pennsburg, Red Hill and Upper Hanover Township. Finally, in Northampton, it includes a portion of Lower Saucon Tp. ZIt is a right-leaning district.

Brown is a Lehigh County Commissioner who also spent ten years on Emmaus Borough Council.

He works as a project manager for a fire and safety corporation and states he oversees the installation of fire and safety equipment at four military bases along the east coast.

Though he was born and raised in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Brown has lived in Emmaus for 21 years, It''s where he and his wife raised two daughters.

Brown says he “wants to expand on the good work that Justin has accomplished over the years, and continue to fight for our community in
Harrisburg.”

  2. Brown is lazy and not very smart, so I can understand why he thinks he'd make a good state representative.

He has a history of running as a conservative, and then hiking taxes.

He did the same thing when he was on Emmaus council.

    He can't be trusted.

  7. He should resign as county commissioner before running for State Rep.

except that in LeCo, county commissioner is only a part time job. I might feel different were it full time.

  9. Yes. He is always pitching the old conservative values but then starts raising the ole taxes when he gets in office. Maybe someone else will decide to run in primary here.

    I understand, but I disagree.

I think staying in office blurs the line on his motives regarding county issues. Will he be making his decisions on county issues over the next year because it's what's best for Lehigh County taxpayers, or will he be making decisions (on county issues) because it will benefit him in his state rep race?

Bottom line, if his election will result in him having to leave Lehigh County government, I think he should resign to run. Otherwise, it breeds a short-timer mentality that he won't have to live with the consequences of how he votes on county issues.

But I'd probably agree with your position if he was running for another county office.

  11. Funny Simmons is quitting. Breaking his self-imposed term limit pledge was always rationalized as because his constituents were begging him to run again. Guess they aren't begging anymore.

  12. Maybe Simmons’ pension is now zipped-up tight !

  13. Heard Simmons' dad is going to fight Conor Mcgregor in May. Should have a lot of pent up rage usually released on the Tea Party debate attendees or voters in line at the primary. Vegas has him an early 6-5 favorite.

  15. I actually think more people will jump in here. Nathan is a very flawed candidate. There are rumors that we could see Vicky Lightcap enter this race. I wouldn't be surprised to see 4 to 5 candidates in the primary. Thanks for keeping us updated BOH.

  16. Donna Baran is a shoe-in. Campaign strategy to mirror Justin's with free paper-shredding events and trout stocking schedules for ALL. Prosperity! May add a 4th and 5th office just for the hell of it. Don't miss too many roll calls and just vote here and there and it will be an upgrade for the district.

  17. Brown needs Sam Murray (Lebanese Fraud) to fix the vote for him as he has experience fixing votes for his Son Joe Murray !
