Gracedale Hit With Five Citations in Latest Annual Health Insperction

Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure presented County Council with a shitburger at last week's County Council meeting, but tried to pretend it was filet mignon. He said he had good news about Gracedale, the County's nursing home. He first reminded everyone that last year's annual health inspection yielded a whopping 13 citations. Then he announced that things are looking up now because the state Department of Health just finished its latest annual inspection, and only found five health deficiencies.

This kind of low expectation from the County's leadership is entirely unacceptable. It just guarantees  citations will continue.

In Pennsylania, a nursing home is hit with an average of 9.2 health citations during the annual survey. Gracedale beats is well above that average, but it also went two years with no citations at all when it had an outside Administrator. When County leadership praises mediocrity, that's what it gets.

I am unable to report on the nature of these latest  citations because the state Department of Health has only posted surveys through December. But I will.

What I can say is Gracedale's Medicare rating remains at two stars, or below average.

  1. Thank you for posting this Mr. O'Hare. Gracedale needs help. It is a great place but the word is the union top boss and the Administration cut a deal and part of it is no one may talk about anything concerning or we will be cut loose. What is going on and why is the truth being played with and hidden.

I thought county council had a Human Services committee to look into things but it does nothing but report what it is told. Why doesn't its leader look into things? At least ask questions.

    and
"just finished its latest annual inspection, and only found five health deficiencies."

so 5 is greater than 9.2?
unless there is some info missing it seems math is more flexible than usual when dealing with Gracedale

  3. Read what he wrote. You are double talking like McClure. It is for the year. Will anyone look into this? Answer---NO.

  5. I’ve worked in nursing homes for years. Honestly the number isn’t a big deal it’s the severity or “tag” of the citation. If it’s a severe resident safety issue then that’s a big deal but sometimes they just hit you on some piddly shit to make it look like they did their job.

Could be a matter of a dirty refrigerator in the Day Room.

  7. Looks like firing a competent third party administrator and hiring cronies didn't work out. Weird, huh? Awaiting Bernie's Lamont-defending, Bernsplaining piece in 3,2,1 .........

  9. The 3:01 AM responder hit the nail right on he head. The Unions and McClure have sold the employees down the river. You don't dare talk about the union or McClure in a negative way or even criticize either of them lest you face the fury of a dictator from hell. You will be chastised and scorned by your own union leadership and by your bosses. Such is the life of a Gracedale worker. When will County Council do a wage survey? Are they afraid of what they may find? Underpaid and understaffed employees does not make for a facility of happy employees.
Needless to say we will not be supporting McClure for County Executive.

  10. 5:16, I should have used the word "below." I was pointing out that Gracedale is much better than the average nursing home, but the goal should be perfection, not mediocrity.

  11. 6:55, Unfortunately I need to wait and see the survey. Hopefully, the citations are minor. But zero citations should be the goal.

  12. 8:01, I have been to numerous meetings at which employees have come and complained, usually about low pay. The registered nurses are an example. That is their right, and to my knowledge, no one has suffered any sort of repercussions for doing so. I personally believe a public nursing home is in a bad spot. It is subject to far more scrutiny.

McClure is cracking down on people who call off from a 24/7 operation without valid excuses, as he should.

I have seen numerous execs over the years. None is very popular with the employees while in office. After they leave, the employees say how great he was. The only exception to this is Brown. He still gets trashed.

That mediocre survey reflects poorly on McClure, but it reflects poorly on Gracedale's workers, too. I know morale is bad.

  13. Angle and Stoffa were right.

  14. O'Hate, Angle and Stoffagift the axis of evil attempted to dump Gracedale marooning our orphaned seniors on an island of privatized corporate leeches. Furthermore he besmirched a lauded man of the cloth and tried to bully him on Business Matters for the amusement of his poison posse.

Jack D would have probably lived 5 more years if it weren't for these indignities heaped upon the guardians.

I agree with statement Bernie. For the many years I've worked for the County I was always able to be granted a sit down with the County Executive if needed, even if only for a couple minutes. Was actually invited to talk with both Jerry Seyfried (sp) and John Stoffa, their door was always open.

After several phone calls and emails I hear nothing from this executive. Not even a response that he received my email. No details can be given due to obvious reasons, too close to retirement. I may not have appreciated all the County Executives through the years but at least they acknowledged the employees.

Totally agree. CLOSED DOOR and made to feel like a low life pawn. One reason I retired this past year. Decades of dedicated service to be treated like crap by this group. Instead of asking for your educated knowledge of ones dept. or division, the know it all's screw things up by belittling your knowledge or background and put you down like you did something wrong by working with past administrations While you are career service, you have no choice but to work with the other administrations. They did this with all dept. and division heads. They have screwed themselves by chasing much talent and knowledge out the door by their Nazi like actions. Getting to much like the idiots in DC. Many of us are happy to have left while these people run the county. Dumbing down the work force. Brilliant!

  18. 11:04, on Monday, another county employee told me she likes McClure precisely bc he is accessible. “He talks to me,” were her exact words. McClure just provided both his cell phone and email so you can contact him. I won’t expose him to people like me, but suggest you call his office. You are mistaken.

Oh drop the drama and change your tampon. They were better treated before McCypher hired his cronies and let the ratings crash. Unions donate to D campaigns. Seniors don't. Lamoney knows this well. His lackey defenders are simply retarded.

  21. When you go to the county website you may think it is for North Korea. Everything is about Our Glorious Leader Lamont McClure this and Lamont McClure that. You have to believe he is the county. Everything in the county flows from the glorious leader.

Have to say the guy is not shy about taking credit for all thing Northampton County. So he should also shoulder the bad.

  22. Shut down that place..I had a family member at that place and it was dirty and found many issues including stuff missing from property and found the person taking care of my family member had a warrant for theft and the county did nothing about it!!! Like it was no big deal!!

  23. Sorry Bernie, not mistaken.

Still have the unreturned emails and numerous phone calls not returned. Even spoke directly to his secretary asking for a return call on two occasions. Nothing.
