NorCo Bench Going Mediterranean

Vic Scomillio
Next year, all but one of Northampton County's nine judges will be either Italian or Lebanese. Jennifer Sletvold will be the only WASP (white Angle Saxon prick) left. John Morganelli has already been picked by both parties for Judge Giordano's vacancy. Last night, the executive committees of both parties decided to keep the Mediterranean influence when they decided on party nominees to succeed retiring Judge F.P.Kimberly McFadden.

Republicans voted unanimously last night for Vic Scomillio, a former Northampton County Solicitor who has run for judge once before. Scomillio, who practices law in Bethlehem, is a past president of the Northampton County Bar Association. The vote was unanimous. He was the only candidate. Though some Republicans tried to recruit Magisterial District Judge Alicia Zito, she declined.

Abe Kassis
Democrats had a potpourri of five candidates from which to choose: Easton lawyer Josh Fulmer; Assistant District Attorney Abe Kassis; former Assistant DA and Divorce Master Connie Nelson; Magisterial District Judge Richard Yetter; and Magisterial District Judge Vivian Zumas.

After interviewing each candidate, they voted unanimously for Abe Kassis. In addition to leading the Domestic Violence Unit in the DA's office, Kassis serves on serves on the board of directors of the St. Francis Friary in Bethlehem Township as well as the pastoral council of Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Easton.

Whether Morganelli, Kassis and Scomillio appear on the ballot together is unclear. Ordinarily, voters would be able to select two of the three candidates for two judicial vacancies. Morganelli was the choice of voters who participated in a primary, while Kassis and Scomillio are party nominees.

  2. Scomillio doesn't know law. He left a Solicitor go before, via cellphone (not even face to face - COWARD and INAPPROPRIATE), a couple days before Christmas (single mother supporting four children), didn't follow appropriate procedures and cost taxpayers a lot of money. Should not be a judge making major decisions on peoples' life.

  7. @5:27 AM -- It's crazy right? Like how can these people do a totally normal thing an be able to separate religious belief from civic duty. Crazy the level of basic agency they must have.

  9. "Is Judge Dally italian or lebanese?"

  11. I think Craig's of western oriental descent from the outer central region. That, or Finnish-Peruvian. He fancies himself Irish. But doesn't everyone, especially on March 17?

  12. Do I have to vote for Morganelli, or can I vote for the other two guys?

  13. You don’t have to vote for anyone. Whether there is one judge race in which you pick two or two judge races in which you pick one is unclear. I believe the DOS might prefer the former.

  15. Abe has been making nice to the Dem bosses for years. He put himself in the right position for this reward.

  16. Craig has a sharp eye for baseball talent and would serve well as an all star voter. His Javanese/French Canadian heritage makes him perfectly suited for the task.

  18. 6:34 Thanks for reminding me of this scum bag calling up this young lady and firing her during the holiday season.

  19. B.O. I remember the scum bag he fired Jill from his cell phone while he was driving, She sued and got something like $300,000. I don’t remember if he was even sworn in as solicitor, this bum cost the taxpayers a lot of money, what was the total outcome if the county fought the judgment. Please run that story again and save taxpayers money.

  20. Vic is a great attorney and will make a great and fair judge. I remember a non jury trial where just before it was about to start, the parties and a judge assembled in a room, where a fair and just outcome was reached . No trial took place that day. Another person (non party) in the court that day became enraged when he heard the parties behind a closed door laughing like wild maniacs. Justice was served!

  21. I will be supporting Abe. I consider him the best candidate. But I will not trash Vic. Vic redeemed himself with me by the way he handled an attempt to toss Nick Englesson off the ballot when Nick was running for MDJ. The way he handled Mancini was wrong but he did a superb job in defending the rights of the voter with Nick.

  22. Morganelli and Kassis.

Scomillio was the lackey of Brownstain and didn't have the balls to meet with Jill in person, or to have Brownstain do his own dirty work. That cost the taxpayers some big money. He'll have to do more than the low bar you set to get redemption.

  23. Like I said, I will not trash Vic. I will instead promote Abe.

  24. Morganelli got his son out of an arrest. Can't be trusted on the bench

  25. Flat-out lie, probably from Mezzacraycray. Morganelli never fixed anything for anyone, especially his own children. And he won't be fixing the case against you.

  26. So basically they're all white. White judges, white DA's and we wonder how they constantly get away with race driven sentences.

  27. Victor is an extremely capable attorney who clerked for Judge Simpson of the PA Commonwealth Court and is a former President of the Northampton County Bar Association.
He is respected by his peers and will make an excellent Judge.
Additionally Abe is a qualified attorney who has numerous year of District Attorney experience.

I think these are two individuals are deserving of the Northampton County bench.
Morganelli has had his time. It is time to vote for a different generation who have different visions and goals for Northampton County.

  28. if Victor is so capable, why did he cost taxpayers over $300,000.00 when he and John Brown were not even sworn into office when Vic fired Jill Mancini?
capable means you know the law and you know what you're doing. Vic seems arrogant and Full of himself don't think a lot of people like him.
