Updated: Local Government TV!

The best way to find out what your local government is doing is by going to a meeting. If you're unable to do so, 11 Lehigh Valley governments have video or audio recordings of their meetings. These include the county and city governments  Even some smaller municipalities like Emmaus and West Easton post video. Links are below. I am also creating a separate link on my sidebar.

Allentown City Council

Bethlehem City Council

Easton City Council

Lower Macungie Commissioners

Lehigh County Commissioners

Northampton County Council

Allen Tp (audio only)

Emmaus Borough

Lower Saucon Tp (audio only)

West Easton Borough

Whitehall Township

Williams Township

I can and do criticize local governments all the time. But when they are willing to post video or audio recordings of their meetings, they are at least making some effort to be transparent.

If I have missed any local government, please let me know in the comments section.

Speaking of transparency, Northampton County's Chapman and Glendon still have no websites, which is completely inexcusable. In addition, East Bangor, Freemansburg, Roseto, Stockertown and Washington Tp still fail to upload meeting minutes.

Local governments that fail to post meeting minutes in Lehigh County are Coopersburg, Lower Milford Township, Slatington, S. Whitehall Tp., Washington Tp

Interestingly, Roseto Borough Council member Dan Engle and S Whitehall Tp Comm'r Mark Pinsley are running for county offices. They are both very ambitious, and in Pinsley's case, this is is second attempt to advance himself  with only two years under his belt in South Whitehall. Perhaps these two should strive for a bit more accountability to the people they were already elected to represent.

Updated 10:12 am: In my original report, I neglected to include Lower Macungie, which actually is aired on cable TV.

  1. Please keep emphasizing the communities that continue to refuse to broadcast their government meetings. Thank you!

  4. Chapman Boro has a population of approximately 225 people. Surely you joke don't call eh Shirley that they need a web site.

  5. Bethlehem Township (PA) should be negatively highlighted. Minutes aren’t uploaded until several weeks after a meeting (the most recent upload is for 4/1 meeting). Minutes? There is a meeting tonight, but minutes aren’t posted.

    1. The latter part of the post should have referenced agenda, not minutes.

  6. The reason minutes anywhere are not uploaded immediately is bc they must first be approved at an open meeting. If they are not uploaded after that, it means either the staff is overwhelmed or lazy. I would bet on the former. And if the admin asked for more staff you would’ve the first to complain.

    1. Actually, no, I wouldn’t complain, Bernie, but thanks for the ignorant assumption. It takes seconds to upload something, so once minutes are approved at a meeting, they can and should be uploaded. Overwhelmed is s lame excuse.

  9. Oh, I am certain you would be moaning. I've seen a few of you at meetings, and you make me sick, to be honest. No assumption onmy part. I know exactly what you are like. You are also incorrect about the agenda for tonight's meeting. It is available online. As for the meeting minutes that are not published, you have failed to point out that Comm'rs have only met three times since 4/1. As I previously explained, staff is unable to post minutes until approved by Comm'rs at an open meeting. Thus, there are really only two meetings at most that have not been posted, and there almost certainly is a reasonable explanation. But you are not reasonable and will groan because meeting minutes from two meetings are still not up there.
