Heckman Invites GPA to Finance Committee

In a post about the P3 bridge project yesterday, I told you that only 9 of the 33 bridges are actually "structurally deficient." The very first comment to that story asks, "Is it true that county council sent the GPA a very insulting and demeaning letter demanding they attend the next county council meeting?"

Below you can see the "very insulting and demeaning letter." It's an invitation from NorCo County Council Finance Chair Ron Heckman, asking the General Purpose Authority to attend his meeting next week on June 20 at 4 pm.

  1. That isn't demeaning by a stretch. What, you aren't allowed to ask these guys what they are doing? As a taxpayer I would be pissed if county council didn't ask. They should have done this sooner.

  2. Certainly not demeaning. But one person can answer most of the questions because if her unique position. That’s Peg Ferraro. What did she know and when did she know it. These are simple questions for an elected official providing transparency about county spending. This is not complicated. Peg should simply address taxpayers and clear all of this up.

  3. Peg has already indicated several times that she was pretty much just going along to get along there. She does not have the documentation being sought.

  4. I have read the demeaning and demanding letter. It is neither demeaning nor demanding. The GPA has a responsibility and a duty to answer to county council. County council represents the people of Northampton County. They are the elected representatives of the people. County council has questions. The people have questions. The GPA should be willing and able to provide those answers. There should be no problem if everything has been done with integrity and the public in mind. The fact that the GPA and the county have an acrimonious relationship at present is sad and troublesome regardless who is at fault or whatever happened in the past. In the end it will be the taxpayers who will pay. The GPA should be accountable and answerable to the people. That includes county council.

  5. What is the over and under in Vegas on whether they show and bring the requested documents?

  6. no show because they are not offered any dough

  7. Everything they did was approved by a standing county council member supposedly doing her job. County council should simply ask her. They were represented all along. Unless she did something wrong, there's complete transparency to council via her.

  8. This letter is not at all "demeaning," unless the person judging does not like oversight. Thank you for keeping us up to date on this matter, Bernie. The GPA is outta control.

  9. There is no "complete transparency" via Peg. There is no reason to believe she has everything on that list, or even most of them. Love Peg or hate her, she is one person and one member. Have them come in and their number crunchers present the documentation.

  10. Why does Heckman think he can summon people. He isn't a King.

Although GPA Chair Shawn Langen acts on behalf of the GPA without authority, Peg Ferraro does not. Her presence at a meeting is by no means tacit approval of what goes on there. Moreover, Peg does not speak for council. Five members of Council speak for Council.

  12. "What is the over and under in Vegas on whether they show and bring the requested documents?" My prediction is that Kriger (contractor), Benesch (third party engineer), Langen (GPA Chair) and Lushis (GPA solicitor) will be there.I do not believe documents will be produced I believe Conrad & O'Brien will be there. They won'tm iss another opportunity to drive up their bill, and will attempt to bait Council members into saying something that can be used against them.

  13. What is his motivation? Is he seeking a higher office? What is the truth??

  14. Stop defending pocketbook Peg. You lavish praise on her because you love her. Every stupid vote they took, she agreed. She even voted to sue the very county body she sits on. She voted to pay Philadelphia lawyers with county taxpayer money to sue us???

The sad thing is she should resign form either county council or the GPA or both. She won't and you will defend her to the end. Anyone else and you would be going for their throat. She should have never run for county office if she just wants to go along to get a long. The members of the GPA should all resign now. They have betrayed the public trust for the sake of a few making big bucks. Hell, they are not even fixing the worst bridges out there. This was nothing but a big Ponzi scheme. Who was watching the store??

  15. 7:35, no one can answer your question bc you fail to name this person.

  16. 8:53, I have been fairly consistent about Peg. I have written here and have told her I person she needs to resign. Several times. I have not defended her to the end, as you falsely claim. You have an enmity for both of us, but you are also dishonest. I also recognize that Peg has many fine qualities like decency and compassion that people like you lack.

  17. Maybe just maybe the county councilman is doing it because he thinks it is the right thing to do. That still happens now and then.
