131st: Bowser Blows Simmons Away

Bev Plosa-Bowser is a retired Air Force Colonel who served her country for 30 years after her appointment to the prestigious Air Force Academy in its first ever class to accept women. She's a combat veteran who earned a Bronze Star while serving in Iraq. She holds two Masters degrees in Public Administration and Political Management. After leaving the service, she opened a Bed and Breakfast and started a small real estate investment firm. If anyone is qualified to serve you in the state house, she certainly is.

She's running against Justin Simmons, an entrenched incumbent who thinks you're pretty stupid

Simmons has previously said he would term limit himself. He didn't. Then he was going to run for Lieutenant Governor, but didn't. Then he was going to run for Congress and drain the swamp. But he backed out right after his shitty attendance record (he missed 500 votes) was exposed. He wasn't going to seek re-election, but he is.

Amazingly, this opportunist who has never served his nation has the nerve to slam her for offering nothing but "political promises."

  1. Oh please Bernie. Morganelli is a politician, not the next coming of Christ.

  2. Great to see contributions received from 20+ PACs in Simmons' recent campaign finance report. Never met one he didn't like, but he is draining the swamp? The real conservative? The real reformist? The real BSer is more like it.

  3. I am voting for Bowser, Simmons needs to be shown the door, 500 votes is unthinkable for a simple state rep positions

  4. Justin Simmons draining the swamp? HA! He is the swamp. I voted for this loser way back, simply as an anti-Karen Beyer statement, and I actually believed he was serious about term limits. Boy, did I get suckered. One of the worst votes I ever cast.

  5. Empty suit Simmons will be free to spend 100% of his time in Mommie,s basement , (up from 89%).

  6. Interesting article BOH. Ironically Simmons starts missing votes on the wave of new video games being released. Others in PA House are working while he is away playing Madden. Expect him to collect that nice pension he promised not to take. Wink wink.

  7. Did anyone with substance ever run against Simmons before ?

  8. Before people believe that Bev served 30 yrs in the military. She served 5 years active duty and 25 yrs in the reserves. We all know the reserves to be one w/e a month and 2 weeks out of the year. This woman is so desperate to run. Why? Because for one reason only. SHE NEEDS INCOME! She has no desire to run. She is now upset over being taken off the Clean and Green Act program on May 2, 2018. She will most likely need to pay the back taxes, but where will the money come from. Her B&B brings in very little business. She spews lies to get signatures for the ballot, and now she's spewing lies to get elected. Yeah, if you want to vote for a liar! Vote Bev!

    1. Wow, such ignorance. The reserve component of the military, the Citizen Soldier, is an integral part of the US Armed forces and those who serve in it are nothing less than equals to their active duty peers.

  9. That would be 5 full years and 25 years of reserve duty MORE THAN Simmons. Since Simmons missed 500 votes he shouldn't mind missing my own.

  10. 11:18 is a truly reprehensible comment but par for the course for Simmons and his supporters. Degrading a combat veteran, one of the first few females to not only qualify but to graduate from the Air Force Academy and rise to the rank of Colonel is shameful. Justin can't even keep his word let alone make the kind of commitment to his country that Col. Plosa-Bowser did. He has no work experience (including the job he currently has since he rarely shows up). Seems like he's the one who needs this job.

Justin SimmonS is the liar! He lied about term limits to get elected.

  12. Love that Simmons sponsors a bill to shrink the legislature, but asked to still be part of it.

  13. "Before people believe that Bev served 30 yrs in the military. She served 5 years active duty and 25 yrs in the reserves."

I find it incredible that Simmons would actually challenge the record of a USAF vet who earned a Bronze Star in combat while he did nothing for his country.

  15. Agree with @11:50am, a disgrace but par for the course.

Thank you Ms. Plosa-Bowser for your 30 years of dedicated and decorated military service. Thank you Mr. Simmons for the trout stocking schedule and paper shredding events. Is there even a choice to debate here? I'm going with the Colonel on this one.

  16. "This woman is so desperate to run. Why? Because for one reason only. SHE NEEDS INCOME!"

So far as I know, we all need income. That includes Simmons. He is a professional politician pretending to be an outsider while collecting every dime of PAC money he can.

  17. She lied on her flyer stating “she’s never before held public office”, all the while holding the Office of committeeperson. Liar. Also lied when getting signatures on petition stating she’s running because Justin was not. She was immediately sent on her way. How did she buy her big home with an indoor pool and elevator, which was previously owned by a handicapped child(not installed for her B&B)? It’s not hard when you stop paying the mortgage on your 760k home in Colorado leaving a deficiency judgment of over 100k, and having it forclosed in sept 2015, 2 yrs after buying her home here. And speaking of swamp? How about 5k from Dent?

  18. I could see someone thinking that a party committee is not a public office. I could also see her saying that Simmons was not running bc that is what he was telling people before he realized his congressional ambitions had been flushed. As for the foreclosure, all the more reason to support her. She knows what it is like to go through hard times.

  19. @12:10 Both Col. Plosa-Bowser and her husband spent their careers in the military. Though PA is her home, they've moved countless times throughout the United States at the will of the US Government. Selling a home is difficult but selling in a poor housing market multiple times at the drop of a hat? A challenge for a large family like theirs I am sure. Her family has made great sacrifices for us and our country. Her experiences undoubtedly give her a unique perspective to help Pennsylvania.

  20. I play in beer softball league. Hoping someone knows the psychiatric meds Simmons was on when he declared running for Lt. Governor and taking on Dent. Hoping to score some so I can envision playing 1B for the Yankees this Sat.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @12:10 How about that last Simmons' mailer, paid for by the Friends of Justin Simmons...aka Charlie Dent and the $3200 he contributed to Simmons' campaigns. Are you forgetting Simmons was literally begging Dent for his financial support? BEGGING!

  22. Simmons is all of a sudden up in arms over Clean & Green, yet he has been in office for 7 years and not done one thing to change it. Is anyone really surprised, he's a follower not a leader and no one told him what to do so he did nothing. Pretty much the story of 7 wasted years. Wake up and smell the coffee District 131.

  23. The Simmons' brain trust is in caucus as we speak. Whose idea was it for us to criticize a war veteran when state representative is the only job I've ever had? Was it you Baran, or better yet you Richardson? You're both fired, Trump style...oh wait, you don't work for me, or maybe you do...have to have mommy check my payroll.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why are the republicans fired up over Simmons attacking this veteran? Trump attacked and mocked John McCain and you same people bow to Trump. Hypocrisy??

    ReplyDelete
  25. 2:42: SO F*UKING TRUE!!! Republican = Hypocrites

    ReplyDelete
  26. Who said anyone was ok with Trump attacking McCain or anyone else? The Simmons team is only ok doing it side by side with him because they think he is their Little Trump. Actually Little Chump....so little in the way of accomplishments in 4 terms that his defense mechanism is to critique and downplay what others have achieved. He won't stand on his record alone because he knows it is unimpressive even to his loyalists.

Take out the part about being a distinguished veteran 50 years ago and you have accurately described the Donald! You are still a hypocrite.

  34. Watch the CEPTA debate from 3-20-18. She denied she was supported by Dent. Not true. She says Clean and Green is for land preservation. Not True. That's only one category. When quizzed further on Clean and Green, she states all homeowners in the state with more than 10 acres have right to clean and green. And said "Act 319 applies to all citizens in Pennsylvania". Not true, and perhaps this is why it was revealed yesterday in the Morning Call that she got notice of a roll back tax bill on May 2nd, now due in the amount of $16,782. She feels entitled to it, notwithstanding recently starting a public business at her home, and has announced an appeal, even though she said "someone taking massive tax cuts is not appropriate". She also stated HB76 should go out on a referendum by the public, which is impossible because its not a constitutional amendment. She said she was against the idea of building a new local middle school and denied "surrounding herself with pro-school people", but that's exactly what she did. Three of her proxy voters for the Montgomery county endorsement were very vocal pro-school people and she then used them to get signatures for her petitions. She gets the highest respect for her military service to this country, but in this race, you can't trust her nor is she qualified.

    1. Simmons is also not qualified - missing 500+ votes in the House and not living up to his term limits promise.

  35. @6:42 Good to learn for anyone with children or grandchildren in the district that Simmons is not pro-school.

As said yesterday, if Clean & Green was so flawed, why has Simmons been in office for four terms and done nothing about it? Two possible answers, he's just an opportunist and it never mattered until he could try to exploit it against his opponent, or he is just plain lazy and doing something about it would have required him to actually show up for work, work hard and lead change. It is probably both.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 6:42: "She gets the highest respect for her military service to this country, but in this race, you can't trust her nor is she qualified."

    1) Simmons gets no respect for his military service and less-than-zero respect for attacking his opponent's service.

    2) You can't trust Simmons. Two words: TERM LIMITS

    3) Simmons was NEVER qualified. However, he initially ran a good campaign and many voters at the time were dissatisfied with his opponent- even though she too, was a distinguished veteran. Simmons initially won, like Trump, because he seemed like the lesser of two evils. Not this time, my friend.

  37. I've been advised that Simmons or his one or two supporters were dishonest when he said here that Bowser only spent 5 years on active duty. About 20 of her 30 years was active duty. Having distorted her service to this country, his 6:42 comment is unworthy of belief. But heavens, she supports schools!

  38. Can't spell "Quit trying to save JS, the weak, party-exiled zealot, and narcissistic, belligerent fraud" without Justin Simmons and every letter in the alphabet.

  39. I hope to God Simmons is toasted. A pure definition of an empty suit. How dare he attack Bowser when he has broken many of his promises. A child in an adult's role. Please vote for Bev!
