McClure Slams Brown in TV Ad

Four years ago, a little known Mayor from Bangor, John Brown pulled off a major upset. He defeated Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan.  Lamont McClure, who is challenging Brown four years later, may pull off an upset of his own. His campaign has thrown Brown on the defensive This hard-hitting TV ad has been airing the past few days on several local news outlets.

  1. The ad is far from "hard hitting". It is another negative political ad that people are sick and tired of seeing. I have received several mailers from both campaigns. Mr. McClure has taken the mud slinging, negative, low road track so far. Mr. Brown has not stooped to the low level Mr. McClure seems to think will be effective. The forum tonight should be interesting.

    1. John Brown and his crew has been slinging mud for the past full years just about, just based on the way that the county has been run John Brown in his crew has been slinging mud for the past four years just based on the way that the county has been run and how the county employees have beem treated. It's not mudslinging if it's based on fact.

  2. Jeff, The reason people do negative campaigning or even robo calls is that they work. So long as the campaign is truthful and not full of lies, it can be very effective.

Brown has given Lamont a lot of ammunition, from charging $1500 for meals that he had to pay back to posting armed guards at a news conference.

The TV ad here is essentially truthful, although no one was sent on a vacation.

Brown is running a negative campaign too. In one mailer, he calls Lamont a liar. In another, he focuses on McClure's campaign contributions and attendance record.

This is all fair game, on both sides.

There is a difference between negative and dirty.

If McClure posted the pics of me with Brown, that would be dirty. If Brown posted the pics of you leaving Lamont's house at a strange hour, that would be dirty.

  3. Did 15% Lamont even bother to proofread this ad? What is the "Leigh High Valley"

  4. Far from "hard hitting". Still do not know what McClure stands for. He voted for some things like open space, he has a picture of Gracedale? Sheesh, wasn't all this done during the Brown administration? The big question is "What is he going to do going forward that is different than what Brown has already accomplished?" And Bernie, the trips were not vacations and, as such, are a lie no matter how you spin it. Lastly, are you going to give equal time to Brown's ad. Is Mr. McClure reporting this on his campaign report as an in-kind contribution or did he pay for this "plug" you are giving him?

This is a blog. No equal time has to be given

Somehow your "moderate" stance always points out the evil democrats and the benign republicans/. You are as fair and balanced in your opinions as Fox News and Bright Bart(pun intended). Your credibility on calling fair and foul in politics is suspect at best.

I apologize for the previous post leaving so much open space. It was at the end of a long sigh....

  12. I love the faux-independent voters begging to know what McClure stands for. They all claim to hate Brown but just don't know what McClure stands for. Or they hate negative campaigning even though it is actually pointing out a candidates actual record. Of course they are all independent people who only vote for the best candidate.

What a frekin laugh. Do you clowns really think that mumbo jumbo fools anyone anymore? You are playing games. You are John Brown supporters, dyed in the wool republicans who will scream about tax and spend democrats yet not blink at a 10% tax increase and 180 million dollar prison tax an spend republican executive and county council.

Sorry the bullshot meter is no longer functioning. NO truth for you!!

  17. I am getting almost daily robocalls from some woman slamming Brown. I don't know a thing about McClure but I am working up a real dislike for him from the tone of the calls. Would appreciate candidates tell me what they are going to do rather than slamming the opponent. He certainly did not come off well at the recent NC retirement luncheon.

  18. I declined to attend bc Jerry, John Stoffa and Frank Flisser were not there. I forgot Ron was going or I would have crashed it. What I heard is that Brown and the R Council candidates think they'll be lucky if they get 10% of those votes, and they won't. I heard Lamont was a big hit.

How could you not know about McClure and be a retiree? I smell bullshit.

  21. Wow! The a lot-right politics of personal attacks are in full force. Yea Trump politics! This is the Trump way to do thing Bernie.

  22. Let the truth come out. Brown has earned his low level of appeal through his actions. From almost day one, everything he has done or didn't do has now caught up to him. I don't see mudslinging when it is the truth! I'm an independent and probably vote republican more than democratic, however, this year in NC I will vote for major changes in the county executive position and council. Both these entities, whether R's or D's, have brought out my disdain for their type of government; non-transparent, inept and useless. This is only surpassed by their good old boy appointments that only feed their overblown egos.

  23. Heard Brown stunk up the place at the debate last night. He claimed to have saved Northampton County from itself. I was told no one in elected office before John Brown ever did anything for the county. So apparently thank G_d for John Brown

He also condemned all the fake news that McClure and O'Hare are spreading according to sources. Shame, shame, shame!!!! So will you be walking nude through Nazareth to atone for your sins Bernie?

  25. Brown allowed Trapp to take everyone in her office to a SHRM conference including the secretary. What a waste of money! If she hired people that had the qualifications, she would not need to spend taxpayer dollars to educate them. How about the tv, popcorn machine, painted cabinets to match the paint on the office walls, new leather (pleather) chairs, and on and on and on.

  26. Photoshop much? That's a funny photo of Lamont as a fifth grader.

  27. "The TV ad here is essentially truthful, although no one was sent on a vacation."

"essentially truthful" = slightly pregnant- That's an oxymoron.

"The reason people do negative campaigning ... is that they work"
Agreed and understood. Just because one can, however, doesn't mean one should.

Mr. Rabbit does not seem to understand the difference between a republican and a conservative. Republican is a political party to which I do not belong. I base my life's actions on principles which I have gained from my many experiences in life. I am unique in that regard, as is everyone else, including you Mr. Rabbit. For me, faith and family are paramount. Certain rights have been granted to us by our Creator and this government was created, by men, to secure those rights. The government does not provide or give us our rights, but exists to enable us to protect them. All else flows from there. I make no apologies for my conservative views. You may not agree with them. Although at times difficult, it is best not to paint each other with such a broad brush, but rather be more empathetic.
