Thanks to weather predictions that added a foot every minute, most of us were home for a Winter Storm Stella. But not me. I'm stranded in Easton. As usual, forecasters were way off here in the Lehigh Valley on the severity of this nor'easter, but it still packed a hard punch. It was without question wise to close most businesses and give plow trucks a chance to do their job.
Why am I stranded? A friend is recovering from broken ribs and a broken nose sustained in a car accident. I agreed to shovel her driveway in a moment of weakness.
I learned I am getting too old for this shit. After shoveling for two hours this morning, flagged down a truck with a plow and persuaded the driver to do the job that I had promised to do. Then I returned to Nazareth only to learn the borough plows were still working on the streets. I rent aparking spot from the borough for $30 a month, but the roads have priority over me for some reason.
Without a place to park, I am unable to return to my bunker, and conned my way back into my friend's home for another night. So I will spare you my usual vitriol, and will be back with a vengeance on Thursday.
In the meantime, feel free to post conditions in your municipality.

ReplyDelete3:41 I started seeing this a couple of years ago. Apparently, the snowstorms were offended because hurricanes, which look white from space, have been getting names for such a long time. Snowstorms, which actually ARE white, complained to the NOAA that is was "hurtful," and "unfair," to not name them also. Nothing came of it.

We only got about five inches where I live. Just came back from Quakertown without too much of a problem. Upper Perk schools are closed, probably because of the school basses. My mom says the streets around Allentown are derivable so we are all good.
ReplyDeleteMy street (in West Bethlehem) still wasn't plowed when I left for work at 8am. I was surprised that the roads were so bad this morning considering the storm ended yesterday afternoon!
ReplyDeleteFed Ed came down my block with a bobcat and a snowblower attached, he just pointed the blower forward and made two passes. It is more of a disaster than if the passes were not made in the first place. He was wearing a orange Santa suit!
ReplyDeletePretty bad in West Allentown, as I imagine most of Allentown. Biggest kicker was seeing I couldn't park my car on my street tomorrow because snow removal. They really worried about the people/snow removal or does FedEd want to look like the savior of the St. Paddy's Day Parade this Sunday?

Seems like in a lot of areas, the plow drivers did not lower their blades all the way to the surface, and then it froze.
ReplyDeleteI received blessed snowblower help to clean up Stella. Much like Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire, I have always relied upon the kindness of strangers. There are still a lot of good people out there.

ReplyDeleteBernie it's called winter. Everyone has parameters to tolerance. The Easton School District for example is rearing wimps the teachers are so,- for the most part . The district has called school off basically for rain. I can't help to think about your father in a POW camp in WW11 and what would have voiced about human in torrance and WIMPS. Tomorrow, Hemstreet would have been 94 he was sent to both fronts during WW11 and I had coffee two days ago with a Marine named CARL BROWN- he was a WW11 battle guy that after the war went to college to be an engineer,stayed in reserve for a lousy 20 bucks a month and subsequently then gets sent to Korea for that war too. . Ask him about what it is to be 'inconvenienced ' . All these men are men that saved this nation and we complain about snow and parking . Hourseshit.
