Bernie, have you considered Twitter? I follow you via a news feed app, but it would be cool to have more immediacy on your readers' and your comments. I'm no spring chicken but I know a younger demographic is Twitter-centric and it may invite a wider audience to get information here. There ought to be a way to link the blog so to avoid doing twice the work? Don't know. Just a thought from a loyal reader with a usually dissenting opinion. Love the Dat and slice of life posts. Thanks for this blog.
(Blogger's Reply: I have toyed with Twitter, and will consider your recommendation.)

Now that the election is over it's time to consider some new rules regarding campaign signage. Right now there are signs everywhere for both the winners and loser, but since the election is over they might as well be considered garbage. Now we're going to have to look at the signs for MONTHS. I wish there were some rules saying candidates had 10 days to remove any of their signs from public property or they would be fined. Alternatively we could require a 10% tax on any sign related costs that is used to assist in the cleanup effort. I was sick of seeing the signs before the election and now that it's over I'm even more fed up.

After the way Easton played against Nazareth, anyone still want to say Easton will kick NDGP butt? Let's see Easton step up to the plate and put NDGP on their schedule after the Turkey Day Game. Everyone knows that their season is over after T-Day, their not going anywhere.

look out South Whitehall Township. Everyones favorite Drug and Alcohol rehab guy Abe Atiyeh is coming to your town and the old West End Raquet Club on Crackersport Road!

the zoning notice is on the South Whitehall website

lets see how much of a backbone SWT has.

  1. A drug / alcohol rehab is no big deal. Do people realize these are patients trying to do better, at great expense to themselves and families financially. Insurance doesn't generally cover inpatient or residential rehab, so anyone investing in their health by going into rehab is demonstrating more good intent and action on it than critics. There are rehab in Its for those without beans but Atiyeh is going to pursue the private payers first. I have no problem with this, I live in south Whitehall. Better rehab patients in my neighborhood than th he active drunks I see living here, driving on route 22 upending buses.

  2. Sorry, the sentence was completed by auto corect. It should have been: there are rehab for those without means, but Atiyeh is going to pursue private payers first. Thats where the better margins are.

  3. Bernie,

I agree with you that politics is not a spectator sport. I have been to hundreds of council meetings. A tragedy in my family has caused me to be away for several days, thus I was relying on news accounts for my coverage. I very rarely ever speak up because I am insulted by these blowhards being able to talk all they want and the citizens are limited to 5 minutes as council stares off into space and plays with their I phones.

I still salute Evans for his work and his plan. At least he did something and got a majority to agree. That is much more than donchez or the de&cd have done. But then with their record any movement is a better improvement.

Now, we see that donchez is proposing another tax increase and well as raising other fees. 2 years, 2 tax increases. In other words he is saying give me more money for accomplishing little. If his salary was based on positive results he would be in the welfare line along with some of his department heads.

Our only saving grace here is if council actually does their job and makes significant cuts the budget. Do not hold your breath.

  4. I wish the county council had a golf or racquet ball club team

  6. We Are "ND" but Easton will still kick the shit out Notre Dame.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'd like to see Notre Dame and Becahi play, as they did when I was a scrub. It used to be a big game.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yea, why is that that Notre Dame does not play Beca or Central Catholic?

Don't tell me it's a "league" issue either!

    ReplyDelete
  9. For many years, that contest would be unfair. But ND appears to have a very good team this year and I'd love to see the two schools play. Beca plays Central tonight in their annual "Holy War." Those two schools really hate each other.

    ReplyDelete
  10. That should be another great game, and I would pick Freedom.

    ReplyDelete
  11. ND (Pius) is very good. But the EPC teams are some of the best in the state. They beat up on each other like college's SEC. Anything can happen on any given day, but Easton would likely handle ND and any Colonial League team, easily. Same for Beca. Interestingly, under the new six class structure, ND will be AAAA and Beca will be AAA. It seems weird, but is based on boys and girls enrollment for their respective sports.

  12. I never understand those rules or the various leagues. I do love to watch the kids play, and hope to get a chance to watch Notre Dame this year. I would not want to see two mismatched teams go it, no matter how much fun it would be. Despite its record, I know Easton is very big and very touch. Same with Freedom, Liberty, Nazareth, Emmaus and Parkland. This year you never know what's gonna' happen, which is why I like high school football so much.

  13. I have been out of the loop with high school football this season. Any stand out seniors looking at attractive scholarship offers?

  14. My readers are probably better versed on that topic than I. I know Spigner has said he's going to Lafayette..

  15. If you remember, Nazareth used to be in the Colonial League and stunk. Last night, they had Easton on the ropes a few times. When you continually schedule games against the same opponents, with the same coaches, with the same schemes, for years; it would be a pleasant and refreshing change to see a team like ND/Pius play them. That is why an EPC team has not dominated or ever go too far on a regular basis outside of the Valley in football. Kids from other schools go on to play at the Division III and II levels, but how many from Easton play on those same levels or higher. It is like most of them drop off the face of the Earth after they graduate high school. Play them damn game! Neither team has nothing to lose. They play each other in wrestling and basketball tournaments all the time. Just imagine if it was a close game. But we will never know because it seems no one will ever give little ole ND a fighting chance.

Thought Earl died? Bernie, did you acquire the pig, too in your award?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Earl never liked Bernie, animals have an uncanny way of alerting their masters to unsavory companions similar to a dogs ability to sniff out cancer. On the other hand you can look at the following video of Earl interacting with a real man and see the chemistry, both live in squalor one by choice the other at the hands of his political enemies.

Absolutely agree. And what makes the worse is that Voter Registration Offices should be required to contact candidates to let them know there are signs out there and if not picked up, a fine will be issued.

Maybe one of your readers can make a suggestion but today's newspaper states Tuesday night's debate is being aired on a cable network that many locals do not receive. Is there a way everyone can view it? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  22. OMG BOH. you hit the nail on the head with the campaign signs. As one drives down 22 ,that's all you see. it is time that some sort of rules be set up in regards to when the signage goes up and when it should be taken down.

I am not sure how to enforce this issue, bc we all know other candidates will figure out a way to screw their opponents before , during and after the election.

There is no reason a campaign needs 10 days to remove the signage. I know in our immediate area, certain candidates and certain campaigns were out at 9 pm Tuesday night removing their signs and for that effort, the neighborhood/town looks like it was before the trash went up 4 weeks ago. In less than 2 hours after the count was posted, at the voting polls around 8:30-9:00 pm , every single sign was removed from the main roads.

I get the 10% tax on any candidate who uses signs, but this issue can and will be exploited by all campaigns. The campaigns will deny they put up the sign in question. How does one prove who posted the sign? Regardless, it doesn't resolve the trash problem.

BTW, in all my years , I never found a single sign that literally voted. Signs don't vote.

  23. I did not hit the nail on the head. That is one of my readers. It does not bother me at all. That is a very small price to pay for democracy, and make no mistake that is core political speech. I am not crazy at all about any regulation of it, no matter how much it offends you.

  26. Loved Bill White's article today on Martin Tower. he is right in that the Admisntration and their ED department don't have a clue. Bobby may have to buck his good friend and find a new person to run that Department. Right now the thing is a mess.
