Brown Deputy Kept Colton From Boro Manager Job

Pam Colton, may soon be a Republican NorCo Controller candidate. Would she be an independent watchdog on County finances, or a cheerleader for John Brown? I'm still unable to answer that question, but know there's no love lost between Colton and Brown Deputy Cathy Allen. Let me tell you why.

At this time last year, Allen was still the president of Bangor Borough Council when Manager John Kasten passed away unexpectedly. Pam Colton, I'm told, applied for the job. Allen, who was just starting her role in Northampton County, never bothered to interview Colton. In fact, most Council members were unaware of her interest. Allen steered the job to Jane Mellert, a Plainfield Township Supervisor who is friendly with Allen. Mellert only lasted a few months, and the Borough ultimately hired a manager from Montgomery County.

Had Council known about Colton's interest, I doubt they would have hired her. There's considerable friction between the school board and the borough over a goofy stadium lease that will ultimately force the borough to subsidize the school district.

So it's too early to claim that Colton, who has yet to announce her intentions, will be in the tank for Brown.

  1. Isn't she also the one who misses the solicitor over billing the school board. Sounds like this woman is a train wreck even if she is no friend of Brown or Allen. Wow! How much more are we going to find?

  2. She was among those who voted to keep King Spry without seeking proposals from other firms. King Spry might be the best choice, but shouldn't you shop around?

  3. Again with trashing this woman? You have spent years chronicling the unethical shitstain that is BarronVonfootinmouth.

It started right after his election and hasn't stopped. The only reason you are now promoting him is your hatred of Brown. That is how you have always made decisions. You have no logic just raw emotions.

There is nothing to indicate that Colton would be worse than the Baroness, and that is a definite plus on her side.

The fact that there may be friction between her and Allen is another plus. Once in office she is independently elected and can kick Brown to the curb since he won't be around in another few years anyway. The Republican, machine will accept her as they have already had it with Brown.

The point is no matter how much you hate Brown, little Stevie blunder has been a disaster. He can be easily considered one of the worst and incompetent elected officials to have ever served in Northampton County. In fact he gives John Brown a run for his money.

  4. You're so busy trying to defend Brown that you've missed my conclusion that she may not be a Brown cheerleader

  5. "You're so busy trying to defend Brown"

We must be reading different entries.

  6. I'll take her any day of the week over Barron. He is a disgrace to his office.

While I would love to see Brown thrown out of office, I am not willing to pay the devil to do it. Boosting one unethical incompetent fool to go after another is no bargain. I want to hear the lady out.

If there is an equivalent Democrat to Brown, it is Barron. What do you expect from one of the original Long Dem's.

  8. Remind me again why she is qualified to be controller? What is her auditing background? Accounting? Is she at least an auditor for her township? A goofy position but at least would give her some idea of the job.

  9. Look at the test scores for Bangor students during her tenure on the school board. They dropped like a rock. Baronn has done some stupid stuff, but he is much better than this clueless Bangor bum!

  10. What is Colton's connection to former Bangor super Pat Mulroy?

  11. Mr. Barron made his mistakes but we know where he stands. The county can not take another gift from Bangor.

  13. Colton is basically a dictator. The school board is a law unto themselves with little oversight from the public. They write checks and think about how to pay for it later..with tax increases. She is a tax and spend autocrat.

  14. Colton is a weak candidate that will assure Barron's victory in the fall.

  15. Check out the Brown poll in the ET today. People were asked to grade his first term in office. Over 75% gave him a D or F. Too bad we can't expel him.

  16. Although there's a degree of ironic humor in it, I wonder that you meant to link Ms. Mellert's departure to a LancasterOnline item about "removals of old dams." Please share the one you really meant, if you will. Great feature, your imbedded links; a new layer of understanding.

  17. this may sound simple - minded but I will not cast my vote for anyone in Bangor ! there is obviously something in the water there!

  18. Brownie has already earned the coveted "Turkey of the Year" award from the Express-Times. He may now earn "Flunkie of the Year" from ET readers.

Ooops. I will fix that right away. Sorry.

  20. You've stopped reporting on LC affairs. Is this because at the top of that dysfunctional pile is a D who won't even speak with elected officials of his own party? It's a mess over here and you don't seem to care anymore. Why?

  21. Because in case you haven't noticed, NorCo is keeping me very busy. It is not so easy as anonymous assholes like you seem to think.

  22. Musty Muller is no surprise. The Democrats in Lehigh County are getting what they deserve, just like Brownie voters in Northampton. Once a country club Republican always a ... He is an executive of convenience to prop up the Cunningham hacks.

Did he buy that new corvette yet?

This is a fair observation, but Bernie has been extremely busy in Northampton County, where Brown is conducting himself not unlike Muller, just with the other party. The weather isn't the best, and it probably isn't that easy for him to make it either. Not with his current car.
