The 35th annual Boys and Girls Club Golf Tournament at Silver Creek Country Club |
The 35th annual Bethlehem Boys and Girls Club Golf Tournament, played this year under sunny skies at Hellertown's Silver Creek Country Club, attracted 114 golfers. According to Chief Professional Gary Martell, it's the biggest crowd he's seen in the past 17 years. That's a good thing, because this tournament is one of the Club's biggest fundraisers.
Founded in Bethlehem 84 years ago, the Boys and Girls Club has over 4,000 members, who are aided by a corps of 600 volunteers in different programs designed to enable kids to enhance self-esteem and fulfill their potential. These include Project Learn, which enhances the educational process at school with additional learning activities at the club. The club also focuses on gang awareness, physical activity and drug and alcohol prevention.
"It's a character building organization," stated Martell.
