You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.

ReplyDeleteIs motivation to help clear the family name part of it? Perhaps, a part of his consideration. However, its not like the Paternos avoided politics. Joe introduced GHWBush at the 88 convention. Scott ran, and lost, for the 17th district that now represents half of Norco. Coach Paterno was quoted back in 08: "I brought my kids up to think for themselves since day one. I got a son who’s a Republican, who ran for Congress, Scott. I’m a Republican. I’ve got a son, Jay, who’s for Obama. I’ve got a daughter, who I’m pretty sure she’s for Hillary. So God bless America."
ReplyDeleteThat said, I seem to recall hearing the inevitability of Norco Dem victory in the primary season, only to have a GOP sweep in November. Echo, to now, and many state Dems are salivating at Corbett's vulnerable poll numbers. While most voters don't care about the LG slot, which of these two can help/hurt the most? Or neither? Corbett, as noted in the press, is already sliding to the center trying to save his job. GOP voters are like Pavlov dogs who will vote if they hear the bell ringing right buzz words, and Dem voters stay home half the time (though they seem a little more energized this year against Corbett). Should be an interesting Fall.
Republicans plan and implement locally based on their hatreds nationally. they hatred Obama, gays, immigrants(non-white), social security, Medicare, Medicaid and anything the man tells them is "Progressive". So with that burden of anger and hate they are very strong voters in all elections. Every election is a repudiation of Obama and Progressives.
ReplyDeleteThe Democrats are lazy voters who see things nationally and plan that way. They don't pay attention to local issues and think everything flows from the national level. They talk about local elections but forget, or don't bother to vote. If they are angry at a democratic candidate they won't vote at all the Fall. They come out vote for the Presidential and if they are motivated against an incumbent republican governor, like this year.
So despite all the Obama hate, next year a Dem will probably be elected President and then the Dem's will again hibernate.

ReplyDeleteBernie, I understand that you have had some past dealings with Mr. Otter. But if the reports which have been circulating are true, Paterno's petitions are ripe for a challenge.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with the petitions pretty much sums up Paterno's campaign. He didn't announce his candidacy until the start of the petition circulation period. Why would a candidate do that? Because his campaign is based on little more than his famous last name. He figured that he would coast to victory without having to do much heavy lifting (debates, building a campaign organization).
It almost worked (and may still if his petitions survive challenge). Getting all of those signatures in various counties is a daunting challenge, especially if you wait until the last minute.
