County budgets are imperiled throughout the state as a result of a 911 funding crisis. This emergency service is subsidized by a $1-1.50 monthly surcharge on land lines. Cell phone users pay $1 per month, but the enabling legislation for that is
set to expire on June 30. Unless it is extended, it will be up to counties to make up the difference.
